UT Band Could Be There This Sat But Vote Not To Play

Ain't doing much of that this year, or last. Or year before, or well, since about 2009.

Watch, if the season continues on the current path of disaster, the blame will be attempted to be placed on the Fans love of the School Song, not butter handed RB's, OL that move about as fast as a statue, DL's being blow off the line of scrimmage, or DB's doing da Flex!, which is about the only enjoyable part of the defense so far.
Huh?? I guarantee you have not heard one person say the reason this team is losing is because fans love of the song. I don't understand why everyone thinks these players are listening to fans. The fans are going against the fans, the players couldn't care less what the fans are saying. The locker room is united and together so the only reason they are losing is strictly football related as you have said the careless mistakes are costing us wins. If anything

Your exactly right. The only reason this team is losing is strictly football related. The players are not going against the fans because the players are united in the locker room and have an understanding. The only people who continue this discussion are fans against fans. The players are not listening to what the fans feel is disrespects because it's not important. So everyone who keeps saying these players are losing because of social justice "distractions" are simply incorrect. The reason they are losing are careless mistakes on the field and nothing else. I can also guarantee you have not heard one person say the reason this team is losing is because the fans care about the song?? Which has never been brought up.

I must be as little dense. Can anybody explain to me what purpose the band serves beyond playing the 'Eyes of Texas', the school alma mater? Hell, it isn't a dance! There is of course, 'Texas Fight'. Now if that isn't bellicose, what in the hell is? I can hardly imagine how these woke individuals must feel about supporting something as 'combative' as that.

To me, the band is a semi-necessary adjunct to the sports teams. It's like the tennis team deciding that rackets could be instruments of punishment. Don't get me wrong. I was a concert pianist as a young person and a life support of the symphony. But this isn't concerts or symphonies. It's at sporting events. It's not like we were at a band competition and a football game broke out.

For that matter, it's the University of Texas. University. It's not the non-sporting arm of the athletic department. We all need to get our priorities and grievances straight. If you don't want to play the school alma mater, hell don't. But don't at Baylor or somewhere.

JJ, The song is not going to change. Therefore, the malcontents should accept it or move on or transfer. This was the wrong hill to start this battle. They have lost the battle and the war.

The old saying in Soviet Russia was the the future was certain, it was the past that kept changing.

A school song, sung by millions of fans and alumni throughout the years, sung by other, better, players than the ones now infesting the Texas uniform, sung it, with pride and joy.

Except for the true freshmen, all the current players sung it last year, with pride and joy after their (few) wins.

Now, it's been deemed to be counter-revolutionary, and what was a cherished part of school tradition and pride, is now a terrible stain on the school. Players run off the field before having to hear it. Volleyball players cover their eyes and hide from it lest the mere sight of them turn them into a racialist meanie, like a modern version of Medusa.

But sadly, it's gone. Once something has been denounced as racialist in today's America, it's like being called a fornicator in Puritan times, a counter-revolutionary in Cuba, or a blasphemer in Pakistan.

The Eyes are gone as an event. It'll still be piped in, this year, but next, they'll have some new event to show the players "da love".

Knowing the Texas AD, it'll have a sponsor tie in as well. "This appreciation song to the Texas Football Team brought to you this week by Dell/Nike/Whoever gives us money".

That why I said watch what will happen if they keep losing. You're not very bright are you?

Texas losing football games in nothing new, and no one really cares about it outside of the fans. But a terrible controversy that pits fans against fans against players, that's a national story. You watch, Texas keeps playing like a HS football team in a college game, the school song is going to be the story the media uses to get attention and views.

Texas is not winning football games because they are not a team. They are a group of physically gifted players that lack heart and desire to be a team. Add in a self absorbing head coach and you have a recipe for failure. The Eyes controversy is because of these pansies and their coach who lacks even basic leadership skills.

From what I know and I could be wrong; railroads were built by blacks and various immigrants for the most part. Nobody can say they know for sure the exact historical context of the song I've been working on the railroad. It's also not entirely clear the meaning of the Eyes of the South and may not have racial undertones at all. Most critics of the Eyes of Texas and history in general, usually leave the whole story out like most liberals do. Unfortunately it may have been played by students at one or several minstrel shows, and we all know how smart young students are all the time.

I don't even think they're physically gifted. TCU was pushing them around like a rag doll on both sides of the line of scrimmage. RB's being caught from behind instead of making the end zone.

OU was clearly the superior team physically than Texas. 6 sacks given up by Texas should tell you that.

Texas fans always think that the team has fantastic talent and if those coaches could just get out of the way, they'd win it all. Then the coach gets canned, and then the truth about the lack of talent comes out. Then you hear to give the current guy more time to get rid of the deadwood from the last staff.

You have Sam, Dicker, and Ossai that are good players. Other than that, who would you have to scheme against? You just line up and play, and let your players beat the lesser ones at Texas.

Still waiting for you to post the name of the coach at a top hs who will make sure his players know the supposed history of the Eyes

Good for them. But it's gone as what it used to be, a way for the fans and players to show appreciation and respect.

So be it. Not much on this current band of player to find application to, or respect for, save the one who's there anyway.

The Regents also supported President Hartzell’s plans to engage in ongoing dialogue with the university community about the song’s origin and meaning, while implementing additional university-wide initiatives to strengthen UT Austin’s...commitment to provide a welcoming and diverse campus.

The completed 3/5 sentence gives BOR support to the ongoing status quo.

I'm just stating what I have heard everyone say including players. It's a very reasonable solution so everyone is happy and this fanbase and team only have to worry about winning.
The players are parroting what some woke idiot looking for their figurative fifteen minutes has told them to parrot. They have no original thoughts on the matter or they never would have signed to play at Texas in the first place...

Translation, from University Speak:

We can't really get rid of it now, it's too big of a change, and some of the people who give us money really like it, since as of about 4 months ago, it was as UT as the Tower and Bevo.

So we'll appoint a commission about it. They can go into detail about how bad the song is, and will contribute to our self-flagellation about how racist UT is, even though you have a much better chance to be admitted if you're not white.

We will allow it to be downplayed at all sporting events, without repercussions to those ignoring it. All participation in the Eyes, from Sporting Teams and the Band is entirely optional. We'll continue, for now, to pipe the song in via the intercom, and hope the issue goes away.

If the students pitch a stompy feet fit over it, then we'll stop that too, and say we'll discontinue it for this year, pending further review in these troubled times.

Hook 'em, and please ask us about UT's excellent Will and Estate Planning options.

I've said before, months ago actually, how "The Eyes" was born over 100 year ago, and what it has become to mean now is very different. The song today, at least my interpretation, is a challenge to every student and alumnus to strive to be the best and give everything they do their best effort to achieve and surpass the expectation of the ultimate goal whatever that goal may be. Over the years, I've had many employers tell me that my performance, experience and achievements were impressive or outstanding. But doesn't "The Eyes" remind us that is the expectation from us as alumni and not just an "it'll do" or "good enough to get by" type of attitude and performance? The song has, at least to this old Longhorn, been a reminder and a challenge to give my absolute best in every facet of life, to honor the University, and those who came before and those who will come after. So, yes, the song arguably was born with racist overtones when first sung, but does it maintain and promote such views now? Just my view, but I think not. At some point, we must stop living in the past.

I wish someone with BALLS would walk in the band room and say who will not play the EYES? Then tell them they are no longer on the band. GTFO NOW. Also if you are on a scholarship you just kissed it goodbye. Now go and call your parents, I am sure they will be very pleased with your woke little a$$es. Next up, the football team! We all know TH is transgender. I feel much better now.

All this talk about the band needs to be moved to the West Mall. Or at least The Stands.

Pipe in the song at the end of games and get something entertaining for half times.

What are you talking about? When someone signs up to play football do you really think they are going to break down and study a school song? Lol no they are not and you wouldn't either so stop with that statement. These are not high school kids these are adults so they have a mind of their own. If that's how they feel about the situation then who is anyone to tell them they are not allowed to feel that way? Many have studied and they came up with a conclusion. Just because it's not what you think doesn't make it any less right.
