UT Band Could Be There This Sat But Vote Not To Play

I am not sure who will correct this, but someone needs to step in before it is too late. Hartzell and CDC need to do this immediately or resign.

Resurrect the high flying twirler dude from back in the day for halftime entertainment.
What about turtle races or chicken poop bingo. Now that’s entertainment!

I see a small percentage bullying the rest into compliance. Too few wants to stand up to the mob.

Well while we are at this may as well change our colors too. Burnt orange is way too aggressive. Change to rainbow colors or pasley. Cannot have a longhorn as a mascot, discriminates against black angus. No more smokey the canon because of gun violence. No more big Bertha, need a small bertha also. There now maybe everyone is happy and we can skip along our way.

Big Bertha is a form of drum "body shaming" if you woke about it.

This is more BS. Anyone in the UT band who will not play "The Eyes of Texas" should be shown the door and any scholarships pulled. I suggest CDC start calling high schools to see who wants to play at the Baylor game. He needs to tell the UT band they are OUT and he will get a band to take their place. "Turn in your uniforms cuz I need em."

Longhorn Band lacks ‘necessary instrumentation’ to play ‘The Eyes of Texas,’ will not attend Baylor football game - The Daily Texan
SCREW THEM! Play a damn recording of it and let's sing the song. Everyone is not a hero or even relevant.

Okay since everyone's reasoning that the school song is racist is that it is the same tune as "I've been working on the railroad" which is a racist and offensive song. Couldn't the school keep the same lyrics which has no racist meaning but just change the tune of the song?? Everyone knows my stance on this issue and how I support these athletes but just to make everyone happy, changing the tune would take away the offensive part but still keep the songs lyrics and tradition that everyone so badly cares for.

You have not been paying attention. The very title is considered racist by the woke snowflakes since it is an adaptation of a Robt E Lee saying.

JJ glad you are back. I havent had anyone poop me for awhile. Why do we have to change? I m 73 and in all those years it has not been a racist song. Maybe they should just accept the song and realize no one is trying to hurt their little feelings. Their logic is flawed. They knew the song was the alma mater before they sighned. Suck it up buttercup

I'm just stating what I have heard everyone say including players. It's a very reasonable solution so everyone is happy and this fanbase and team only have to worry about winning.

Not meaning this to be personal but to change the tune and not the words sound lunacy to me. Seriously how can someone actually be offended by a tune. I mean I’m offended by many lyrics in songs particularly rap, but the tune is meaningless.

You can blame the liberal media for the mess in America. They cover for corrupt democrats, run only the liberal narrative gibberish, produce opinion and are not news journalists anymore (I just want the news with no politics behind it), censor conservatives, and run non-validated unsourced stories. Then with all the media combined at 75-90% liberal, this all adds up to what we have today and with the Eyes of Texas. Also shows just how gullible our society is to fall for this liberal hysterical nonsense. Simple solution, just keep those in the band that will play it and so long to those who won't.

Yes you can even change some of the lyrics. Majority of the song I personally believe is acceptable but some are very offensive to many. The tune as well is the problem because it's obviously the same tune as a very racist and offensive song.

Ain't doing much of that this year, or last. Or year before, or well, since about 2009.

Watch, if the season continues on the current path of disaster, the blame will be attempted to be placed on the Fans love of the School Song, not butter handed RB's, OL that move about as fast as a statue, DL's being blow off the line of scrimmage, or DB's doing da Flex!, which is about the only enjoyable part of the defense so far.

Yes it has been racist but as many athletes said before they knew it was racist but were scared to speak up out of fear of what would happen if they did so. It's 2020 and athletes have a voice more now than ever. I can also guarantee these athletes did not study the school song before they committed simply because it was not a discuss that needed to be had. I have heard a top high school coach who arguably has the best team in Texas say that they are now going to have that conversation with athletes and make sure they know the history of the song and tell them all they need to know. Now that it has come to light their will for sure be bigger discussions being had.

Well JJ in the case you’re presenting the lyrics have been changed. It’s clear the eyes are not of the south but of Texas, and it is quite literal actually because the eyes of Texas are upon every athlete that wears Texas on their jersey. Just a fact and it would be disgusting to know HS coaches would be preaching racist indoctrination.
