Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown

Thank you for the update Branynon. Can you tell us how many points the Aggie men and women had today?
It is a disappointment because even though I favored the Aggies in both events I was hoping that we could get a split especially with the women but it looks like it isn't going to happen.
We have a good lead but it has the potential to evaporate with the spring sports. We still have to fight to get the trophy and I still feel it is going to be close.
I know what you mean about Nebraska because they used that method against us to win the Big 12 Championship in Women's Outdoor Track and Field in 2006 but we still went on to win the NC and I would trade an NC for a Big 12 Championship any day.

I would rather win an NC that this trophy any day. But I still would like to win this one or at least retain the cup this year. In this thread my thoughts are however more inclined to getting points for the trophy since that is the title of the thread.

The Men's Basketball team has been criticized lately and I hope they change things and get a playoff spot. But one thing that they did to help us in this years competition and have a good unexpected lead was get the sweep of the Aggies and the whole point. Before the season I expected the sweep to go the other way. Same with football but they fought back to win the game and give us the point.
The Women's team have been a great surprise because they had lost 11 straight games to the Aggies and I was sure they would add two more but they have already won the first game and got at least a split. Even if they don't win the game in Austin they have exceeded my expectations and made a contribution in this sport.

Women's track is far behind. Men's track is in first place, but ATM will outscore them badly in the track events. In field, not it appears Texas had not a single high jumper qualify. ATM has too many sprinter and relay points ahead and only stellar performances by the few men's qualifiers and a complete sweep of the weights give Texas a chance.

Sheroid Evans did not finish his race, I hope not due to injury.

Men's swimming is far ahead, but the Aggie women are kicking *** and I don't think Texas has the number of point scorers left in the meet to catch up. The aggettes are solid with plenty of NC competitors and real depth - too many bodies scoring points.

Thank you Branyon and please keep the updates coming. I expected the Aggies to dominate the points in all the Track and Field events but had hope that maybe we would get at least one point in them but I guess it is not meant to be.

Swimming points were already decided earlier in the year - Horns won both. Only the m & w indoor track points on the line today.

That is a good question Lake and I don't know what happened either. But the Aggies swept the Indoor Track and Field points and now the score is

Texas 7 1/2 A&M 3

The next even will be for 1/2 point as the Horns take on the Aggies in Women's basketball in Austin on March 4th at 1 P.M.

After that it continues in April.

The aggette swim team had mulitple qualifiers in many events in which Texas had one or two. Their roster has about a half dozen more swimmers.

Texas outrecruited ATM last year and evenly the year before.

This season ATM has committments from 5 of the 2012 top 100 while Texas has 1. Unless Backins brings in some foreign swimmers for the next class, Texas will have a down recruiting year.

The ATM move to the SEC should help them because is is a much stronger swimming conference with 4 of the top 10 women's teams.

Big 12 swimming is lousy and with ATM's departure became a one school conference. Pac 12, Big 11 and SEC dominate the top 20 rankings for men and women.

Georgia, Cal Berkeley and Stanford women have been cleaning up in recruiting for several years and Texas will have a tough time competing with them.

This Sunday March 4th the second game half point is on the line in Women's Basketball as the Horns host the Aggies. The Horns have already got at least a split in the competion which is more than I expected. The Aggies will be favored of course but if the Horns play as well as they have been doing lately they might pull off the upset. Plus I am sure there will be much support for them as the game is in Austin. I hope so. The competition will not resume until April 14 when the Tennis team hosts the Aggies in Austin.

I still think that since softball involves three games it will be like baseball with 2 wins out 3 getting the point. I wish they would decide but the Horns, Aggies and State Farm are dragging their feet on this one. This needs to be decided before the games are played not after.

I will post more when I know who for sure gets this 1/2 point. Hopefully they will decide soon on the softball matter even though there is no hurry - it can be done right now or yesterday.

8-3

Baseball is looking more and more unlikely but Texas should be favored in both golfs and a favorite or even money in both tennis points needing only two of those four to clinch the win. The mens tennis is closest but that is in Austin which will be huge. The backup is softball in which Horns are also looking to be favored. Right now I would project Texas getting 5 more points and winning this final competition 13-6. A dominating finish to this competition and one that would look even more dominant if it werent for the 4 T&F points.

When one of the worst WBB teams Texas has ever fielded can beat aggy twice, anything can happen. Baseball is uncompetitive with most good D-1 teams at the moment and Softball will crater at some point, but the way this sports season is going I would not bet against them against aggy.

We have got a month before the competition continues in Austin on April 14 with Men's Tennis followed on April 17 in CS with Women's Tennis. Then from April 27 to April 29 we will have Baseball, Softball and Men and Women's Golf. And we better have the points because the only competion after that is Men and Women's Outdoor Track and Field on May 11-13.

We are ahead 8 to 3 which is excellent. If anyone had told me we would have that back last September I would have taken it. We still need to get more points and they won't be easy to come by. I still don't know what they are going to do about the softball point or know what the delay is in them deciding and updating the web site.

I feel the Aggies are highly likely to take the Outdoor Track and Field points and likely to take the baseball point but our Coach could have our team ready to play well then and maybe we might pull it out but as of now the Aggies are definately favored.. Out of 8 points left in the competitin that is three for the Aggies with 5 points left and they are going to be hard fought. I think we should at least get one of the tennis points and one of the golf points but they were close last year. Our Men's Tennis team has split with the Aggies but the next match is in Austin and let's hope the Texas team that won the second match is the one that shows up. Then hopefully our Lady Tennis Team will cinch it at CS or we can at least get a split in the golf points. The key thing is we must get at least 2 out of the 5 points discussed to win it and they will be hard fought points.

Go Horns!

Golf is like track - one can look horrible one day and be a world better another day. However a 25 stroke spread is at least a statement.

If we decide to keep a "showdown" like this going with another school next year, I sure hope Dodds has the sense to not allow track to account for more than 20% of the points. And to not allow one team to be able to score you 2 points in it. If indoor and outdoor track accounted for 1/2 point, Texas would NEVER have lost this thing and only tied one year (the year A&M "won" it). If you're going to keep it as is you might as well call the damn thing the State Farm Track Meet Showdown.

How about calling it the State Farm "Aggies Run Away From the Conference" Lonestar Showdown? No wonder Aggy is good at track events.

It makes sense. Dodds is a former track coach, so he favored the track teams with more points. He was just trying to stir up interest in his favorite sport.

The last half of April will be busy as there are now the final 8 points available. We lead 8 to 3 but it is far from over. The competition begins Saturday as Men's Tennis team battles the Aggies in Austin starting at 6 P.M. Those that can please support the Horns. We need this point as they are going to be tough to come by even though we are only two points from winning the cup. Let's hope the team that beat the Aggies 4 to 1 shows up rather than the one that lost to them 4 to 3. The competition is tough even though we lead and no point is assured except the Aggies will as usual get the 2 indoor track and field sports and most likely baseball. That leaves five for us to get 2 of them and let's hope our Men's tennis team gets one. Remember just like we got 7 of the first 8 points the Aggies could get 7 of the last 8 points and take the competition. Go Horns!

After getting ahead 3-0 and then 3-1 we are struggling in the last three matches and are in danger of getting swept and losing this point. I am worried. Come on Horns! Someone please fight and get this fourth point.
