Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown

A disappointment is that State Farm hasn't addressed the point allocation for Women's Softball yet even though they have had time and should know about it plus I have emailed them about it too. Before this year the teams met twice like in basketball and each game was worth a half a point. Now like baseball the teams are going to play three games so it wold make sense to have the point awarded on two out of three. But they need to address it now and not wait until the week they play. It is long overdue.

Every year there are surprises that go both ways. Last year the ones that went the Aggies way was getting the Men's point in tennis and the split with our women's volleyball team. But we got some too in getting the Women's Golf point and spliting the soccer point. The biggest disappointment to me was in volleyball because the Aggies didn't really belong on the same court as ours yet they got the split. Fortunately the Ladies got the sweep this year. We were fortunate to keep the trophy with the tie breaking systeam and if I have to I will accept it that way this year even though I would prefer winning it out right.

The action continues this Friday (2-3-12) in CS between the two schools' Men's Swimming and Diving teams. We should take this point but the Aggies are capable of pulling an upset so we need to be at our best. This is one point I don't want to lose because I think we have a good chance at the NC much less the Lone Star point. This would give us a 7-1 lead. But nothing will be decided until a team gets to 9 1/2 or 10 points and the teams' are competitive.

Still I am pleased with a 6-1 lead at the point because before the season I expected to be holding a slim 4-3 lead at this point.

To put this competition in prospective there are others like me that want to win this competition but still I think we all if we had the option would take a football win and a NC in sports over this cup.

Go Horns!

Bill, being up 6-1 at this point is better than anyone could have hoped and if mens swimming doesnt suffer a huge upset it will be 7-1 by this weekend.

Even better news is that both our indoor T&F teams are doing well and what were points that had already been written off now are actually in play. Texas softball also looks strong and if it is a full point for 2 out of 3, I like Luna and the Horns chances to take 2 out of 3.

Those are three bonus points as Texas should pick up the needed 3 points from some combination of the two tennis, two golf and 1 baseball point. That alone gets the horns to 10 and the win.

It isnt over til you get to 10 but right now the fat lady is warming up her lungs and if things break right Texas could win this thing something on the order of 13 to 6 or 14 to 5.

I hope you are right about all your assessments and actually they make perfect sense but I am one of those that won't feel completely relaxed until we get the winnng margin.
We have two big events the next few days as our Men's Swimming and Diving compete with the Aggies for the full point and on this coming Monday our Men's Basketball team plays the Aggies in CS for the 1/2 point. Those in the area that can please go support our teams.
On paper we should get the point tomorow if the men are at their best. Our Men's basketball team has exceeded my expectation but it would be great if we could beat the Aggies again but it will be tougher at A&M. Hopefully we will be playing our best and pull off this one.

UT wins the Men's Swimming and Diving point and now lead 7 to 1 needed 3 points to win outright and 2 1/2 points to tie but retain the cup on the tie breaker.

Way to Go Horns!

If Texas can split the T&F, that will be 2 points leaving 1/2 needed to keep the trophy. The way the Men's Golf team is playing they will give aggy all they want.

when is the women's swimming point on the line? we should be favored there as well, but it's gotten much closer since my day.

we've already won the women's swimming point this year - that makes four years in a row for women's swimming and diving. they've won 6 time out of 8 showdowns total.

The meet last night was delayed for just over an hour because of tornado warnings but we started off strong and won it for the point.
Our women won it even more convincingly by a 197 to 103 score to give us the other point as oversea has pointed out.

Now that our Men's Basketball team has taken care of TT we can concentrate on the big game Monday at CS at 8 P.M. Those in the area that can please support the Horns. Let's hope the team that beat TT and played Baylor very close shows up and pulls it off. The Aggies are tough at CS but it would be great to get this 1/2 point even though this team has already exceeded by expectations by taking the first game.

GO HORNS! FIGHT AND WIN! BEAT THE AGGIES!

Another factor about the basketball game with the Aggies Monday night is that we are fighting to get an NCAA berth and need to win some games including this one to get an invite so more is at stake here besides the SFLSS point. We have lost some very close ones to top ranked teams but we need to win some down the stretch. GO HORNS!

Horns win the basketball game and we get another valuable half point!! We now lead 7 1/2 to 1. We need two points to cinch the trophy this year and anything more and we win it outright! Well done Horns! But keep fighting!

Will this stupid excuse for an insurance company promotion ever end? I don't need to count points to know who's best. This had to have been thought up by aggy, no legitimate Longhorn would spend a nanosecond wondering "who has bragging rights".

poor aggy 7.5 to 1 in this silly Lonestar Showdown. I truly hope this ends as lowly aggy slinks off to the SEC to be constantly pounded by LSU, UA, Arky, GA, FL, SC, Tenn., Miss aggie, etc.

BYE BYE

Will aggy be invited to participate at the Texas Relays? Will high school track athletes committed to aggy be invited to participate in the Texas Relays? What a recruiting bonanza that could be!

that would be sweet to not have them compete in the premier track and field event of the state/region. it would serve them right.

I'm hoping we can at least get a split in the Indoor Track and Field points. With the injuries we have had the Aggies may claim the point in baseball for the first tiime since the competition begin. I won't feel happy until we get the final two points to retain the trophy.

Our men's tennis team lost a close 4-3 match to the Aggies in a neutral and fortunately non conference game. This shows this point can go either way. The one that counts is Austin on April 14, 2012. Let's hope we can win that one. Scary times indeed and brings to the point that it isn't over till it's over.

Israel is about to strike Iran and the whole Middle East will blow up in war this spring.. but keep us up to date BIS on this important topic

Death to aggy!!!

Two important points on the line this coming Friday and Saturday in Men and Women's Indoor Track and Field at CS. Those that can please go to CS and support our teams. The Aggies will be definite favortie to take the Men's point but I think our Ladies have a good chance to get this point but it will be close. It would be great if we could get a split in this event. Go Horns!

Men's tennis scored a 4-1 victory over A&M at the ITA Indoor Championships this past weekend. A positive sign that they are capable of scoring Texas one more point.

That is great news Tempest and hopefully that is the Horn team that shows up when they meet in Austin. I hope our Women's Basketball team will fire it up when they meet the Aggies in Austin next month. A split in the Indoor Track and Field points would be most helpful this weekend. And I am more encouraged about the baseball and softball teams.

Bill:

Not to be the pessimist here, but you are encouraged by the Longhorn Baseball team? I think this is going to be a very long baseball season.

I hope the Longhorn baseball team will start playing better soon but right now I am concerned with the Men and Indoor Track and Field points this weekend. Anyone that can please submit updates. The events conclude tomorrow. It would be great to get at least a split in these points.

Big 12 has sites with live results. In track, women are dead last with 2 points. Men are first with 18.5, but many events to go.

Men's swimming is way ahead. Women are behind ATM, but plenty of events remaining. The ATM women's team must have 100 members - they have multiple performers in every event just like Nebraska once featured as a means to win conference, a practice promoted by AD Byrnes.

Byrnes brought the practice and other efforts to ATM whose minor sports have surpassed many of UT's under the complacent gaze of Deloss and Chris.
