Horns vs Coogs Game Thread 2023

Chin I think your ‘soft cover’ comment is just being kind. We have a serious problem with crossing patterns. They are wide wide wide open. Make my point?

If you can’t get adequate pressure with the normal front, blitz. And keep blitzing. You say that it exposes our secondary? My question is, how would we even know?

I don’t buy the argument that the absence of Watts and Catalon made a big difference. Watts has been exposed in pass coverage all year, and Catalon is great against the run, but only average in pass coverage.

I believe the ineptitude we saw — this week and at times in the RRR — to be a scheme related, not due to a deficiency in talent. We better get it fixed, and fast. Otherwise we’re going to get bludgeoned down the stretch.

Texas sucks. They really really suck. Houston is the worst team in the conference. Sark isn't the coach to lead them into the SEC. It was kind of obvious after his first year with all the give up losses. But year 3 and they still aren't a championship level team in the Big 12.
Sark inherited a lot of poison on his first year team.

Consider it a make up for all the other non-calls. I'm not as convinced as the Fox announcers that it was a bad spot. But even if we were given a huge break, it was way overdue.
The sideline official at top of screen was spotting the ball at the 9. Not sure who moved it back to the 9.5.

seems like our dline was not much of a factor. I don't recall Murphy’s name being mentioned.
with Ewers out we are going to need a strong run game.
This is Murphys time. He needs to throw the ball with accuracy rather than strength. I am talking about leading the receiver accurately with a slower touch.

I don't remember any shots downfield. But somehow we also didn't run the ball enough. From my couch it seemed like really poor play calling. On defense it feels like constant prevent defense, soft middle for crossing routes and no edge pressure. But we won, better than the alternative.

If Ewers is out, we are in deep trouble.
Murphy missed badly on his only 2
throws.

For a someone who’s supposed to be such a genius, Coach Fark sure looks like a fuckin bozo most of the time.

How do we have jbrooks running the ball like a man on fire, Ewers comp letting 80 % of his passes, dominate ToP and still almost lose to unranked cougar high?

genius or *******, sometimes I guess it’s a fine line

Maybe. We certainly weren’t a passing juggernaut today after about the first twenty minutes.

Perhaps, with a QB that is big and a threat to run, our ground game will be even better.

BS. PK's weaknesses shine through most games. It's just we have played some really bad teams.
The team went 5-7 in his first season to 8-4 with essentially the same level of talent. Criticize the shortcomings last year all you like but the first season had poison.

Sark lost to Kansas at home his first year. Herman was 7-6, 10-4, 8-5 and 7-3. Sark turned that into 5-7 his first year. Mack Brown was 9-3, 9-5, and 9-3 his first 3 years coming off of a 4-7 season. This is a down Big 12 with a huge talent gap in every game they play. They almost lost to Houston which is basically Kansas from 5 years ago. He has to make the championship game this year or he has failed.

Sark's first year doesn't count because he inherited cancers that MD Anderson couldn't treat. Cancers that Herman kept feeding "sugar" to.

Ehlinger left after Herman’s last season, which you neglect to mention. He willed a number of wins in 2020. Sark didn't get the benefit of Ehlinger but got to reap the poison that remained.

My opinion is that he hired a terrible DC and conditioned the team poorly so that they couldn't hold a lead. A good coach beats OU that year and several others.

That was a big loss. But think about the 2021 season for what it was. A step back. Mack Brown had a freshmen QB too.

Sark doesn't like the option but if Murphy plays we need to use it.

With TCU, ISU, and TT down this year, it appears BYU and KSU will be the remaining games that test UT’s coaching.
