horns vs bama 2023 thread

Anthony Hill had a Derrick Johnson freshman type night. That kid is special. He over pursued early and you saw him correct in real time. Spying Milroe with him was great scheme and he got two sacks on the road. Baxter and Brooks are another great duo with Blue as a hard quick reliever. Brooks is a slasher but smooth. Rare combo. Ewers grew up last night. Cool as a cucumber and finally lit a fire. Loved his energy. Dimes were dropped. Sanders is a crazy mismatch even against Bama. Mitchell needs 10 targets a game. Special skill set. The RPO slant on goal line is cheat codes. Sark needs a shout out for being aggressive. Throwing a fade route on 1st down from your own 6? Dang. D Line handled business once they settled in. Bama was determined to run early.
I love high flying offense, but nothing satisfies me as much as jamming the ball down the throat on the ground to end a game and imposing your will. Even Herbstriet was caught off guard on the Brooks 3rd and 7 conversion.
Probably biggest win since OU 2008. Most impactful and dominant TRUE road win since… 69 Arkansas? Enjoy this. 12 games left to win. If Sark continues to stay this loose and aggressive, you can forget giving games away in 4th quarter.

As to the question, "So seeing what we saw tonite and last week from the RBs, just why in the hell should Baxter start over JBrooks?"
Sark has been saying all along that some "rooms" are so talented it doesn't matter who starts.
Or in the words of the immortal Bill Bradlry, " It don't make a **it."

I mentioned pre game to watch the Texas tackles vs Bama ends. Was a strength on strength. Check the box score for two future first day draft players. Texas May have the best OT tackle duo in the country. Banks and Jones are special. Been a longgggg journey for Christian Jones.

It’s not who starts the game, it’s who finishes the game (see Sir’jabari Rice in basketball). I will cut Baxter some slack because he stepped up about five weight classes last night over his hs days and who knows what lingering effects the rib injury had. He does need to recognize that against a defense like Bama you cannot stop at the line (Bijan could do this but not many others) make a decision and hit it. Get what you can and try to come out the other end. I don’t think he had in big mistakes so he will be fine. Keep them fresh for a long season and each of the backs brings something a little different to the table.

The OL had to perform well for us to have a chance. They did better than that. No sacks. No false starts. One penalty. Grade: A

Ewers had to step up, and boy did he. Did he miss a single throw all night? Grade A+

Sark had to call a great game, and help Ewers gain his confidence early. And he did. Grade A+

I thought that the D played quite well. The long passes late were likely a result of focusing on stopping Milroe and the run game. Most of the longer throws were completed on our safety and nickel, not corners.

Someone said that they thought our Defense wore down. I’m not so sure. I think Alabama schemed better late in the game as alluded to above.

And finally, we may not have the edge rushing void we thought we had. Burke is having a coming out party this year and as many of us expected, Ant Hill is making an impact early. Sacks by each late in the game were huge.
The one OL penalty was a hold 5 yards downfield so it only cost us 5 yards.

They either double team Sweat or the edge gets a sack. Otherwise it’s a push up the middle. Pick your poison.

I
In one thread on this most ou fans actually were furious Briles was there.
Sooner apparently only want their own crooks on their field
Unbelievable. His son in law is the ou oc. Why wouldnt he be there supporting him. It makes zero sense for ou fans to be upset, I mean they are "the land of thieves"!! Briles screwed up at BU whether knowingly or not, it was on his watch. Pretty low class, even for ou to complain about him being there.

One of my favorite plays/memory of this game that showed the “want to” was Gbenda’s sack. Total football drill in a game time scenario. Knocked down, bear crawl, springs up to continue the pursuit and takes down Milroe with authority. The motor never stopped revving on that one - good representative play for the team’s overall performance last night.
