horns vs bama 2023 thread

Sark needs a shout out for being aggressive. Throwing a fade route on 1st down from your own 6? Dang.

This was Quinn's greatest throw of the night, with a man in his face. The ball placement was spectacular. A lot of his other throws needed the WR to go and make the play, especially on the deep balls

For the record, Texas didn’t play it’s best either: missed FG, dropped passes, etc.

Yes, a couple of his long passes required adjustment by the receiver. One appeared to be a corner route and the receiver (not sure who at the moment) had to straighten out and make the catch coming down over his helmet. Not complaining but that's part of football and part of winning.

On another note, I’m not only sick, but I’m tired of hearing the rhetoric coming from tv/radio programs that this isn’t the same Alabama team Saban has had in the past. They don’t have this, they don’t have that.
Maybe, just maybe this isn’t /wasn’t the same Texas team as in the past decade or longer. I do believe Bama players figured that out as time went on. The Horns kicked roll tide from here to there pretty much all night long. As we all know, the final tally could’ve been much worse.
Just pulling this off the top of my balding head, I figure 99% of those sports show clowns wanted the outcome to go the other way so they could continue to diminish what Sark has done with this program. Same old Texas. Yada Yada Yada. Not this time fellas. That falls into the “Ain’t Happenin’ category.
Keep it going. One game at a time.
I need that morning coffee now for sure.
Hook ‘Em!
Pure cope by SEC homers. Alabama currently is far and away the most talented roster by high 4 and 5 star players in the country. I would argue Saban just might be succumbing to the inability to develop said talent that Mack fell prey to at the end of his career. Saban also does not have the same caliber of assistants this year. But to say that Bama is in a different league then they used to be is just cope.

I don’t really follow Alabama perfectly, but haven’t their last 4 QBs been first round drafts and now starting in the NFL? Counting Hurts. Now they are breaking in a new guy. We have Ewers now in his sophomore year. If everything else was held equal last weekend and they had Bryce Young on the field and we had last year’s Ewers, they probably would have won. Alabama just hasn’t had to break in an “average 5 star “ qb lately and wait for him to get experience. By mid season that may be completely different—or he may be a bust and they have a bad season.

Also, they've won national titles with Jake Coker and Greg McElroy. Milroe is definitely more talented than those guys. Alabama the system, and essentially, the franchise, is about way more than just star power at one particular camera-friendly position.

Ugh, when I attended The University 1996 - 2000, one of those years some students were playing in this fountain and there was a short in the lights and at least one was electrocuted to death. Dark note I know but I hope they went to low voltage lighting now. Kids will be kids.

I think this was the Nebraska 99 home game, but I don't remember there being a death. the student in question got shocked, but no death.

Bama will be fine. They may drop another game, or not. Milrose reminds me of Sophomore VY. Remember all the "experts" saying he needed to be a wide receiver. If Milrose progresses with his decision making, look out. Also, I don't think that many d-lines he faces will be able to get the push right up the middle and require double teams leaving their tackles on an island like our d-line forced. Milrose will have running lanes in most games. Their secondary is going to need to get better, but how many teams have playmakers at both WR positions, a TE that might be 1A to the Georgia TE and a solid slot in Whittington who can also make plays. The Horns second string receivers might start for a lot of teams. Oh and a qb that appears to be rounding into form and spread the ball around (which he hasn't done before in this type of game). Bama is a solid team with things to work on. In fact, their issues might be that Saban hasn't hit home runs with his recent coordinators. Never will understand hiring O'Brien last year. The Horns made more plays and fewer mistakes and that equals a victory. The Horns have things to work on as well.

So I texted a Horn buddy that lives in Tulsa. Asked what is the vibe in ou nation after our impressive vicktree over bama.

He said the local talk show host (and former ou player) Dean Blevins on the radio show was complimentary and called Texas: "The Big Boys" and stated the sooners have "Problems". Overall he said ou peeps are very concerned and nervous about how they will match up with us.

I can't stop talking about how impressed I am with our offensive line. Alabama has an outstanding defensive line yet they didn't touch Ewers.
Everyone played great, QB, Receivers, DL, LBers & DB's but I thought our OL was most impressive of them all.
Watch the tape...:bevo:

I am thinking Flood must have chewed some oline butt after the rice game. There was a huge difference in play in the Alabama game. The way the oline played against Rice was why I didn't think we would beat Bama.
I suspect we learned some things going from game 1 to game 2

I am still marveling how our oline kept Ewers clean.
Some of this was Ewers getting rid of the ball and sliding in the pocket. The o-line played well in pass protection but there were some missed blocks but Ewers got rid of the ball quickly. I recall one pass, I think to Whittington on the left side (not sure if it was him or Sanders) where the lg got beat but Ewers reacted and got rid of the ball before the Bama lineman could get to him.

it was the pass to Sanders that he took to the five. Ewers hit Whittington over the middle as he was getting hit by the Bama right DE who got around Banks

Aggy has said it. Milroe is not that good is where it starts; he's not Tua or Bryce.

What I remember before last weekend was the hype about their three 350+ offensive linemen.

What they forget is how close we played Bryce last year. Some shoulda woulda coulda's in that game but we proved we belonged on the field with them last year and this year. It doesn't matter. We have to win out to convince anyone. We got plenty of time for reality to answer all questions.

milroe is not Tua or Bryce. I think he is a great runner but not that good of a passer.
But guess what, aggy lost to milroe and Alabama last year when he was a year younger and not as good as he is this year. He also had 3 td passes against aggy.
Aggy just butt hurt Texas beat Alabama and they can’t and trying to downplay the win. They are very good at making excuses. They have been doing for a very long time

After watching some replays, i did notice a lot of rotation between Campbell and Hutson at RG. I'm not sure if there were any other rotations going on over on the O-Line?

I'd like to see Flood or the TE/WR position coaches coaching up Mitchell and Sanders on a couple of those blocking whiffs.
