horns vs bama 2023 thread

Announcers used the term "muff" to differentiate it from a fumble.

If Ewers ever had possession of the ball, and then fumbled it, he would have been the only one who could have advanced it. Since he never had possession of the ball, it was a muffed snap, it was live and anybody could advance it, which Brooks did.

And I would add, no way would have B12 ref's got the call correct.

I believe he has been adequately critiqued by many posters on this board yet very few, if any, have given him credit for his part in the Bama victory.

I think his biggest adjustment was the OL gave him a pocket to pass from.

Old65horn:

you are exactly right but I would replace critiqued with criticized. If he throws one poor pass here they come. This young man is a sophomore and growing and learning the game. I will bet this sophomore will have better passing stats than colt McCoy and Vince young during their sophomore years and they both had a national champion team around them. He has been constantly attacked by some and even his teammates made reference to that criticism. He had a great game but no qb has a great game every game and when he doesn’t the bashers will be back. One of these posters made reference to gaining confidence. He would gain confidence by not reading this board. It would be nice if the entire fan base got behind him and support him completely. He deserves that. He will make mistakes. Every qb does, even the best ones in the nfl. He is a talented young man and growing and learning. And you are exactly right the OL played very well and gave him time which is a huge part of an effective passing game.

I support Quinn, sark,Pete, and the entire team 100%. We have a good team. How far will we go? I don’t know but it will be a good ride but there will be ups and downs along the way. LETS GO HORNS.

I believe the rule is whoever possessed the ball is the only one who can advance it if it is fumbled. Since no one had possession it was a live ball since it was behind the line of scrimmage.

I actually heard the ref call it a backwards pass.
That would be a live ball.
I guess you could say the center is "passing" the ball to the QB.

Right, even on 4th down, if the snap skids along the ground, someone can pick it up and run or throw it.

Nice screen shot from ESPN this morning. Glad to see the Horns back in the good conversation!

Heard this on the radio today. He really communicates a lot about the football element of offense and defense— not like a Mack Brown general overview.
Agree but Coach K deserves a lot of credit for the stellar defensive play.

Nick Sabans press conference is rich. If I were king of college football, I wouldnt tolerate BS either. His demeanor reminded me of Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets. He has no time for any of it. Has to do it, but doesnt have to like it. As a former player, everything he says translates into buckle up *****, youre fixin to practice college football! If you were considering quitting, now is the time. And he ends it like Biden. We are done!

Ugh, when I attended The University 1996 - 2000, one of those years some students were playing in this fountain and there was a short in the lights and at least one was electrocuted to death. Dark note I know but I hope they went to low voltage lighting now. Kids will be kids.
Dont stick paper clips into light sockets. life 301

Anyone see Red on the field? Wondering what the deal is with him. Is he in the dog house or just not doing well at practice? Surprised we don’t see him on the field.

He may not have travelled with the team. A smaller set travels to away games and those who sit at home are rotated.

Sark made a point of praising Red for potraying Milroe on the practice squad.
Said it really prepared them.
4 QBs traveled so maybe not enough room for 4 RBs.

No, he travelled. You can see him in Coach Choice’s hype of video pregame. He’s just got 4 studs in front him. Great to know he contributed to the victory by simulating Milroe in practice. I’m sure we will see him at some point this season in meaningful action. I was very impressed with how he ran in limited targets last year. Quick and runs hard.

So, did anyone else notice these things in Satans, uhh, post game press conf.?

He must be of the Bill Belichick School of Communication.
On another note, I’m not only sick, but I’m tired of hearing the rhetoric coming from tv/radio programs that this isn’t the same Alabama team Saban has had in the past. They don’t have this, they don’t have that.
Maybe, just maybe this isn’t /wasn’t the same Texas team as in the past decade or longer. I do believe Bama players figured that out as time went on. The Horns kicked roll tide from here to there pretty much all night long. As we all know, the final tally could’ve been much worse.
Just pulling this off the top of my balding head, I figure 99% of those sports show clowns wanted the outcome to go the other way so they could continue to diminish what Sark has done with this program. Same old Texas. Yada Yada Yada. Not this time fellas. That falls into the “Ain’t Happenin’ category.
Keep it going. One game at a time.
I need that morning coffee now for sure.

Did Johntay Cook II play against 'Bama? He was rated 5-stars by Rivals. I didn't see any stats for him though he made a couple of catches against Rice.

Yes, you just knew there would be bama and or sports apologists that would drag this kind of rhetoric out and make excuses. Minimize what our team did Sat.

Yes...It will be interesting to see what those same people say while Bama goes thru the secsecsec pushing everyones' stool in. (Possible exception UGA)

Aggy has said it. Milroe is not that good is where it starts; he's not Tua or Bryce.

What I remember before last weekend was the hype about their three 350+ offensive linemen.

What they forget is how close we played Bryce last year. Some shoulda woulda coulda's in that game but we proved we belonged on the field with them last year and this year. It doesn't matter. We have to win out to convince anyone. We got plenty of time for reality to answer all questions.

I don’t really follow Alabama perfectly, but haven’t their last 4 QBs been first round drafts and now starting in the NFL? Counting Hurts. Now they are breaking in a new guy. We have Ewers now in his sophomore year. If everything else was held equal last weekend and they had Bryce Young on the field and we had last year’s Ewers, they probably would have won. Alabama just hasn’t had to break in an “average 5 star “ qb lately and wait for him to get experience. By mid season that may be completely different—or he may be a bust and they have a bad season.

In my view, have to find a way to play at a consistently high level, regardless of the opponent. The way I see it, our kids viewed Alabama much the way all our opponents view us - it's their Super Bowl. Coaches have to find a way to get them to play consistently at that level regardless of the opponent. Therein lies the challenge in dealing with 18-22 year old "kids", but they get paid plenty of $ to figure that out. Here's hoping we don't have any mental letdowns large enough to cost us a shot at a potentially magical season.

Some of you who understand coaching can steer me here, but I think the “let down” isn’t necessarily mental for the players as much as when we have a game like Alabama or OU on the schedule, we dedicate time in offseason to specific plays that help us in that game, and steal some time during the Rice week for situations that apply to Alabama’s team, and we probably scout the top teams a lot more. Then, suddenly you are playing KState or Tech or whatever and you only have 2 or 3 practices to prepare for the specifics of what they do. So, the players are executing something on Saturday they have not done many times, so it looks like a mental letdown, but it’s not completely their fault. And then, that random team has been watching your film for 25 straight days leading up to the game.

He did. Sark pointed him out on the deep TD bomb to Worthy. He was celebrating while the ball was in the air because he knew it was going to be 6. His route was responsible for pulling the safety off Worthy leaving him in man coverage.

The apologists are just that, paid mouthpieces throwing out the same old rehearsed cliche lines (robert griffin come to mind??) that keep them from having to actually have broadcasting talent. No more Howard Cosells but Herbstreit is pretty good. He and his partners never use those rehearsed lines. They actually study and know the teams and game. So bama lost. Yes they had a new inexperienced qb, so do a lot of teams. Is this the typical bama d, no but so what. They may have a down year and lord knows saban is due one. Texas has had about 14 of those in a row. Texas won and did so in solid fashion. Give credit where its due with the cliches!!! Also @WorsterMan still has the best tag line ever!!!

Not a big Robert Griffin fan, but wasn’t he gushing over us in our spring game?
