horns vs bama 2023 thread

Good job by the OL last night.

Running, pass protection, not making many stupid errors.

All around, a good blocking game against one of the nation's best teams.

It felt like our big guys wore down a little as well. I'm the first half our DTs were pushing the line into Milroe. In the second half they held their doubles and the ends did more of the pass rush.

Not a complaint, as they are carrying around 350#, but Milroe seemed to have a bit more time in the secund half (hence more points off passes).

Yes iis
Was on the bus going back to parking area in Lincoln . Full of Huskers. Back then they were still used to winning. They were so friendly congratulating the win and wishing Texas to have a great rest of the season.
I remember thinking they have no idea it is over for them. Not just because Texas beat them but because the conditions that allowed them to dominate had been eliminated.
They were every bit as nice as everyone said. But I knew then it was about to change.

Feels more like 45-35 2008 to me. Horns were good but we didn’t know how good. Dirt burglars heavy favorite and Horns basically given no chance to slow down much less hang with or beat an unstoppable offense. Took some early hits and fell behind, then Shipley happened. Completely took over the game physically in the 4th quarter and wore them down.

Loved it. My wife and I had a great time eating boiled shrimp, pan fried salmon and bread dipped in her homemade sauce (carrots, red pepper, garlic, fake feta cheese do to my unfortunate lactose intolerance and other secret spices). We drank wine and I had a tequila shot when it was over.

Like Bill Parcells say's, "You are what your record say's." Despite the dropped touchdown passes and missed block on that one run, we still were the best team. And I believe that now. We are the best team against all the teams left on the schedule. We don't have Bijan, but we have that defense. That defense was very active and powerful in the face of an offensive line that had three highly rated players over 350 lbs. We have an offensive line that woke up against an elite team. Quinn is very careful with the ball, which coaches like Parcells and Jimmy Johnson preached. No turnovers. That will win a lot of close ball games. We have a great offensive mind in Coach Sark.

And we have Anthony Hill Jr., quickly on the rise. He was amazing to me. He is clearly going to be the next Derrick Johnson.

I think this game should stamp us as a go-to destination for all 5-star recruits, barring being outbid on the NIL front.

Hook 'em and just go to Texags.com if you want to smile broadly.

Yes today celebrate
But as Sange pointed
Time to get back to business

Yes, don't eat the cheese.

Quinn said it perfectly during a post-game interview. The question (paraphrased) was, "What do you think the media will be saying about Texas now?" And instead of eating the cheese and blurting out, "Texas is back," he said (again paraphrasing), "That we have eight or nine more games on our schedule."

We do need to focus on our next game. Wyoming is dangerous. They beat tech.
It will be a challenging week to get full focus on this game but I think they will get there. The point is we won a big game and it’s ok to celebrate and our fans and student body deserve to blow it out.

Trap game as Mack liked to say. But that's a coaches excuse. We need to work up so good old fashioned hate for Wyoming. Have to want to hurt them. Have to want to focus intently on the job at hand. Look the ball into your hands. Don't tackle someone rushing the punter. Don't hold when the receiver with the ball is already racing past. Little things that add up.

So seeing what we saw tonite and last week from the RBs, just why in the hell should Baxter start over JBrooks?!
That is a question that I feel certain will be asked in Monday's presser. I like Baxter. He is big, strong and tough to tackle. He can push the pile.
Brooks has a very quick first step and then top end speed that will take it to the house.
Maybe Baxter started because Sark wanted the big guy in there in the first half to wear down the huge Bama line and LB's. And then Brooks comes in the second half and his quick hits (which he scored on in the 4th quarter) and speed to the outside and speed to beat the LB to the flats for receiving is a serious threat to score.
If Brooks can improve his receiving and become consistent there, he will be a super stud.

The OL had to perform well for us to have a chance. They did better than that. No sacks. No false starts. One penalty. Grade: A

Ewers had to step up, and boy did he. Did he miss a single throw all night? Grade A+

Sark had to call a great game, and help Ewers gain his confidence early. And he did. Grade A+

I thought that the D played quite well. The long passes late were likely a result of focusing on stopping Milroe and the run game. Most of the longer throws were completed on our safety and nickel, not corners.

Someone said that they thought our Defense wore down. I’m not so sure. I think Alabama schemed better late in the game as alluded to above.

And finally, we may not have the edge rushing void we thought we had. Burke is having a coming out party this year and as many of us expected, Ant Hill is making an impact early. Sacks by each late in the game were huge.

I said in post before game if ol plays well and doesn’t have communication and responsibility breakdowns like rice game ewers and receivers would be successful. Ol was tremendous as were ewers and receivers. Couple of drops but that’s going to happen. I said we must contain their running game and contain milroe. Boy did we do that. 107 yards rushing. And concerned about milroe throwing over the top due to need to stop running game. That happened a couple times but did a pretty good job. When they got their good rec on our safety had a little problem. Our running game was decent which was good enough. Sark was aggressive and played to win and ewers was the qb I thought he was. Dl was solid and lb made plays and spied milroe well. Great game. Lot of season to go.
