Death toll in Texas elementary school; 18 children, 2 adults killed

In light of the law enforcement failures across the board on this incident, the idea that we would restrict law abiding citizens from owning a firearm in response to it (and therefore increasing our dependency on law enforcement for personal safety) is absolutely insane. It is the opposite of rationality.

You’re in luck! Texas passed 12 laws this year that are friendly to guns and gun carriers.

The Ulvade state senator spoke against open carry on the floor last year. His summation included “law enforcement does not want this” and “this law will result in deaths”.

We have a fire. You guys think more wood is the problem.

And yet nothing passed in the prior Session would have had any impact on the carrying of a long gun.

I remain unclear why the left cannot grasp that legislation passed in the last several Sessions had nothing which allowed this tragedy to occur. Open carry dealt with handguns, not long guns. FFS, kids used to be able to keep their rifles and shotguns in the back window of their trucks in the high school parking lots even in my time during high school.

The left wants to get one ball over the goal line in a long battle to confiscate guns. It’s the only way they can enforce future mandates and quarantine.

One thing about kids; they bully and ridicule those who are different. I was guilty of it when I was in middle school. How can we focus on treating people with respect? Maybe CRT and gender studies is taking our eye off the ball in terms of what we choose to spend our time on.

Would prayer in schools teach children to love their neighbor and treat everyone with respect?

I don't know. It's moot anyway because they won't allow prayer in schools.

Back in the day it was called teasing, not bullying. Like almost everyone my age I was on both ends. No big deal. Nowadays if someone says something now flowered up towards them they go into depression.

Imo, this is where good parenting comes into play. Those one on one conversations with your kids and grandchildren are highly valuable. It let's them know they're loved, valued and the positive confirmation goes a long way when you're not around them.

I challenge you right now and I'm going to bet you don't have anything. Tell me one of these laws you're talking about that were passed recently which contributed to this massacre. I'll wait.

Coach, in addition to the constitutional problems with gun control, you all have shown no evidence that anything you suggest doing would have stopped the shooting or that you have the competence to enforce the laws you want. It's just an irrational scream for "something" rather than a prudent, intelligent consideration of possible solutions. And of course, it's laughable to assume that a guy willing to commit mass murder is going to hesitate to commit a firearms violation.

Actually, you meant more wood is the “answer”, but you hang in there Bubs.

We have an arsonist and you want to take away the fire hoses and defund the fire department.

It’s not the choice of weapon but something in our DNA called Western Hemisphere violence. That is the root cause, not the 2nd amendment.

Definitely agree. But it seems more is needed these days. Teaching kindness and preaching anti-bullying is not as political as gender identity and race theory. It's across the board. Everyone benefits from a climate of not being an a-hole.

You all are mindlessly screaming "do something!!" The opposition is asking normal questions like what would have prevented the incident. Who's head in the sand?
Sadly, this is why nothing will happen. The folks on the Left simply cannot have a rational discussion on the topic. I would be willing to entertain additional gun control laws (even though I think they are ineffective) if we could get some concession on hardening the schools with dedicated armed security. I don't see Democrats agreeing to any concessions on school security.

I have not seen a report on how he paid for his weapons ammo and equipment.
None of it cheap
He wasn't in school and there are some reports that he worked for a local fast food place...it wouldn't take more than a few months to sock away the funds for someone with a goal in mind. This is especially true given the incessant push from the left that a fry cook or burrito folder needs $15 an hour...

Ditto. I'm generally in favor of raising the minimum age for all kinds of things. I could be talked into it on guns, even if I think it wouldn't matter much. However, the fact that the Left ridicules and dismisses the most obvious things like school security makes it pretty clear that the real agenda for them isn't to stop school shootings. It's to disarm people without regard for their likely criminality or propensity for violence.
