CFB Playoffs Announcement

If we were undefeated and conference champions, but Ewers was out with an injury, should we be passed up on the CFP? I would be pissed. Yes, we would be a “lesser” team without QB1, but why penalize the program?

FSU looked bad, I agree. Not a good team right now.

If Texas played like FSU did last night, would any serious, to quote a former poster, person think Texas is top 4? I certainly wouldn't.

You are forgetting the play of FSU defense. FSU SHOULD BE IN THE PLAYOFFS NO MATTER WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE LAST NIGHT.
Lol, the defense against Louisville? Louisville? Did you watch that "game"?

Whatever. Glad Texas is in, couldn't give 2 squirts about FSU. Never have, why would I start now?

Oh what a shocker, pomspoms disagrees lol.
win/loss record should matter. The season matters.
I agree with you that even Georgia is better than FSU but win/loss records matter.
And an injury that makes an offense weaker shouldn't keep a team out.
Thank goodness we are going to a 12 team playoff which I have been advocating for many years.

There is too much subjectivity. That's why I believe the first method should be for inclusion of any undefeated Power 5 conference champion. That would have produced Michigan, Washington and FSU. Period. Then you look at the other two conferences. We had two one-loss teams; Texas and Alabama. Next head to head. Guess what. We had an answer there.

Texas is the 4th team and the SEC sucks wind.

But, now, we have a 12-team playoff on the horizon and both Georgia and Alabama would be in. As would Oki State and Texas. And Michigan and Ohio State. And Washington and Oregon. And FSU and Louisville. Then you round it out with two wildcards. Who would that be? Just whichever AP poll teams that didn't fit the initial criteria.

It's a tough call. Most years W/L would matter. No reasonable person could put FSU in the top 4 ahead of Bama right now. Or Georgia.

Take all six of the top teams, force them to play yesterday with QB3. How would each fare? I know many believe Arch will be the second coming, and perhaps he will, but I wouldn't feel good about our chances yesterday if he was starting.

Overjoyed to see the Longhorns in the CFP - they earned it.
I feel the heartache for Florida State - they're the undefeated champ of a Power 5 conference. Yes, they experienced a major injury late in the season. Yet they sucked it up and found a way to win without their starting QB - maybe the wins were ugly, but they were nevertheless wins. Florida State can say this - " we had a schedule to play, we played it, and we won every game, even when we had to cope with a significant injury - what more could we have done?"
But the committee was charged with picking the four best teams to play in the CFP - and without their starting QB, Florida State is not one of the four best. Florida State would simply not be competitive with Michigan, Washington, Texas, or Alabama without the starting QB. Sucks for Florida State - but IMO the committee got it right.

100% agree on fsu. The committee simply wasn't going to leave off an sec team when you get down to it

There are six teams with legitimate claims to be one of the four. Two were getting left out, no matter what. If FSU and Georgia were in, the conversation/controversy would exactly the same with different team names.

I can't help feeling that if Georgia had won, the four undefeated teams would have gone. It would have been hard to argue with. As it stands, how could the committee include Alabama without including Texas who had beaten them? The SEC crew at ESPN was canvassing for both Georgia and Alabama.

I agree that if Georgia had won, Texas would be 5th playing Liberty in the Fiesta bowl. Everyone should thank Saban.

This. They HAD to have an SEC team in there, and that is Alabama. Then they had to include Texas due to the head-to-head. That leaves FSU to pay the freight on this deal.

Does anyone believe that right now, FSU is one of the four best teams? Again, I’m not talking about conference champions, record, fairness, leagues, or anything else. Simply, is FSU one of the four best teams, right now? Perhaps others can say that they are. I cannot.

Wasn’t that the whole point of creating CFP, displacing the BCS — to select the four best teams “at the time that the selection was being made?” And maybe the committee didn’t do that – selecting the four best teams – in previous years. In fact, they probably didn’t do it last year by including TCU. But this year, regardless of how painful and unfair it is for Florida State, they may have done what the charter said they should do.

I have no doubt that Arch would have been much better than fsu third string qb. Pretty sure he would have passed for more than 55 yards. Fsu should be in. Maybe not if the cfp started next week but if is a month away, and their qb2 should be back. It is Bama/sec bias that screwed fsu. Texas earned on the field.

The more I think about this, for those who think FSU was wronged, I would say that fate screwed FSU, not the committee. It’s not dissimilar to what happened to Texas on January 7th of 2010. Early in the first quarter, fate screwed Texas. We lost our quarterback, and the game was all but over at that time.

I made a donation when all that came up thinking it was the same as a sponsorship which I didn’t realize at the time it wasn’t the same.

Don’t think it’s anything to do with SEC. It’s that it’s Georgia and Bama and that those are two really good teams. No one, not even an FSU fan chanting hey oh over and over could look straight into a camera and say FSU as they are, are one of the 4 best teams. Just can’t. And that sucks. I would also point to the fact that Texas did not experience anything like the drop off FSU did when Malik came in. There was drop off yes, but still solid production.
People also keeping pointing to history and are just more indignant about “undefeated power 5” and blah blah. That’s not the criteria for this and this is an unprecedented season in college football with so many strong undefeated and one loss teams all the way to the end. TCU stayed in last year because there was no one better than them to bump up. Just not the case this year. I really do feel bad for FSU. But that Michigan team reaction to playing Bama and not FSU says it all…

What if we get a rematch with Bama in Houston? Was a water shed moment in the sport last time… Multiverses colliding and folding back in on themselves in a black hole time vortex something.
