Band and Cheer Stuff

It would appear they could use a life lesson. As it turns out if I refuse to do the job my employer has spent large sums training me to do I will be dismissed.
I would have no problem dismissing the director and disbanding them for a couple of years. Have local entertainment ant the half. Then after a couple of years see if there is any interest in having a band that would play school songs. If not, continue with the local bands.

Sadly, I agree. I’ll miss them marching in but I can get over it. I’ll sing the eyes with the fans minus the band.

Tryng to decide if I'll

1) Stand and turn my back
2) Take a knee
3) Do the 1968 black glove thing
4) Just go pee and stand in line at the concession stand, shoot the **** with friends until they leave.

They do have to march up Trinity, which is where I'll park. Think an F-150 4x4 with ranch hand bumper is ok?

From the article "Over the last two weeks, Texas athletes have stayed on the field of play and stood in unison while fans sing the song. Athletes are not required to sing the lyrics or even hold up the “Hook ’em” hand signal,” something Texas athletes have done for decades." Did this happen in Stillwater? I saw the team stayed on the field in unison but were the few fans there singing the Eyes?

"so the band was essentially suspended" When I was in the band you got course credit for LHB. If the band is suspended, current band members should NOT get course credit since they can't even show up for their assignment on Saturdays.

If a student doesn't turn in an assignment, that's a zero. Fair and consistent.

I read the links.

Plenty of Kum-Ba-Yah but no balls in that drivel.

I hope nobody considers that get along / go along mumbling to be “standing up” or taking a stand.
Chop- I am a member of the Alumni Band and agree with you 100%. I gave them my opinion and figure there are snowflakes in the Alumni Band too they are trying to appease. There are no teeth in either of those statements.

CANCEL the band. I’m sure there are plenty of true longhorn alumni band members that would see it as an honor to play at games.

This is not that hard, blocking, tackling, assignments, play together. Come early, be loud, stay late, wear burnt orange. Support your team and the fans.
If you don't want to do these things you can still attend school here or another place, but you cannot be on the team if you need a right to do whatever you want including screaming fire in a crowded theatre where there is no fire.
We have coaches to coach these young men and women. Letting them do whatever they want is not coaching, whether it is in the classroom, field or in the band (wherever they are).

I used to enjoy the band. They used to promote school spirit, as any school band should. Now they promote division. Let's end the band permanently. Those attending the game can sing "The Eyes of Texas" on their own.

There is definitely "rot from the head" in the LHB. We are a long way from a band that marched bravely into Fayette Nam, pelted with bottles, playing the EYES of Texas over and over (before a National Audience and the President of the United States.

Since all media of the LHB belongs to the school, I suggest that we play current bands recording of The Eyes and then use older recordings of the Snowflake Band of the Southwest for: Texas Fight, Deep in the Heart of Texas, The Walbash Cannonball and the Fight Song.
That ought to piss them off enough.

"Snowflake Band of the Southwest" - I am guntled with this moniker.

The band marching in, doing their thing in the stands, etc, was enjoyable to watch but playing the recording for eyes, anthem, etc works just fine in this unique season. Let them stay home and pump their chest. FYI team all stood together for eyes and approx 1/3 had horns up BUT I noticed several more had horns but not held up high, kinda neat I thought. Anyway it was very respectful I thought and I appreciated it. Hookem.
