2025 Recruiting - Softball

Ranked T-15, this actually means in the top 37 players in the country, in the extra Innings updated ranking ranked in 2023. She was 15th player from the 2025 class rankings of 2022.
T-15—Alisa Sneed, OF/UT, Riptide 07 – Campbell
Alisa Sneed continues to impress as one of the best all-around players in the class, a 5-tool athlete who can play any position needed for Coach Sam Campbell’s Texas-based program. The coach begins: “She has incredible range and arm strength to complement exceptional speed with home run power from both sides of the plate.” She was a PGF All-American and at the prep side was Co-Defensive MVP in the 6A district and also was 1st Team All-District in basketball and the defensive MVP. Her numbers included a .448 batting average with a .546 on-base percentage, a 1.536 OPS and she showed her power game by hitting 10 home runs and driving in 40 runs while scoring 44 runs herself. In the field, she had a .921 fielding percentage and helped the Riptide take home the trophy at the Triple Crown Sparkler Power Pool division last year as well as take 1st place at the Hotshots Summer Exposure Tournament.

1. Caigan Crabtree: IF, Princeton, TX
2. Drea Wilson: IF/Util, Forney, TX
3. Hannah Wells: P, Coahoma, TX
4. Jaycie Nichols: IF, Durant, OK
5. Alisa Sneed, OF, Conroe, TX

Want your opinion. Do you think that Mike White and other coaches are concentrating more on non-pitchers than pitchers these days. Of course, you always want at least one pitcher commit each class. But with the transfer portal, you can essential "rent" a good or great pitcher for 1 year if you need to.

Agree, disagree?

For sure think they are doing that. I think they go after the athlete multiple position type players as well.

BIG TIME addition. Super athletic baller who hits well, runs well and defends well. Knew she'd end up with us, and happy about it.

1. MaTaia**
2. Alisa Sneed*
3. Hannah Wells*
4. Caigan Crabtree
5. Drea Wilson
6. Jaycie Nichols

Now this is the real deal! Big time grab by Texas!
Coach it should have been double horns up on this one. Iowa Premier Fastpitch is pretty proud!!
“The best 2025 player in the country?” I like it!

EIS has her ranked T-6 which means 12 girls ranked ahead of her! Unfortunately the article in Chicago Tribune is subscriber only.

T-6—Mataia Lawson, MIF, Iowa Premier 16U National – Dickel
Mataia has become a softball legend already in the Midwest as she batted .589 with 54 runs, 14 home runs and 47 RBIs for Andrew (Tinley Park, Ill.) High after transferring from Marist (Chicago, Ill.) High and earning All-State and All-Conference honors. The Chicago Tribune did a feature on her during the spring high school softball season and one coach tabbed her as “the next great talent in a generation to come out of Chicago.” Mataia was on fire this summer for her Iowa Premier team and, over the course of less than two months—from June 9ththrough July 30th—she smacked 29 home runs against some of the best fastpitch travel ball competition in the country. In Colorado at the TCS July 4th National Power Pool, Mataia hit four in one game. Her stat line for 2023 is like something out of a video game: a .537 batting average, a .602 on-base percentage and a 1.321 slugging percentage and, to go with her home runs, she had 66 RBIs, six triples, 25 steals and, perhaps the most impressive stat of all: she only struck out 10 times all season. Mataia was named to the All-Tournament team at the Alliance Tier 1 National Championship after leading her Iowa Premier team to a 3rd place finish. One high-level observer at the event noted: “Mataia was the best player in the 16U event, and it wasn’t even close.” Speaking of video games, one Power 5 coach added: “Lawson is like having a cheat code, she’s that good.”

What's funny about the Lawson commit is that on VolleyTalk recruiting thread for Texas they noticed that:

1. She's being followed by two of the assistant volleyball coaches
2. She was/is a volleyball club teammate of a big time recruit Abby Vander Wal - wondering if Vander Wal is the reason for her recruitment
3. Now debating if she has a partial or full scholarship for softball - if she has any scholarship for softball she requires one to play for volleyball
4. Noted that she's "a bit short" for a typically OH for the team, so must be a DS

And it's funny to read discussions about Lawson from a volleyball-centric community

Texas’s 2025 Recruiting class as ranked by the Extra Innings Softball per the 2023 listing:

MaTaia Lawson T-6 12 players ranked higher
Hannah Wells T-7 14 players ranked higher
Jaycie Nichols T-9 17 players ranked higher
Alissa Sneed T-15 34 players ranked higher
Caigan Crabtree T-74 approx 140 ranked higher
Update:
Drea Wilson ranked 327

Not a bad class at all!
Interesting observation. Hannah Wells is a P/1b. All other recruits are infielders!

Sneed and Wilson are both utility but play more OF. Really good class so far. Still would like one more pitcher but may have to come from portal.

I did some research on Anne Wallace to see what I could find out about her.
She is a junior at Ridgeline HS in Millville Utah. Which is in the most Northern part of the state on the Idaho/Utah border.
In Sportsrecruits she is listed as 6'1" and 190 lbs. And from what I can see she doesn't have an ounce of fat on her. Now that is pretty solid from any point of view.
She mentions in one of her bios that "I am a first generation American and understand the meaning of work ethic, accountability, responsibility, and big on FAMILY." I already love the girl! She has a Jamaican flag draped over her shoulders in one of her picture.
The daughter of Mark and Sele Wallace. She goes on to state 'My mom played basketball and volleyball and was great at it. She had offers from Michigan and UCLA.”
She has only been playing softball for the last 5 years.
In her commitment announcement she went on to thank her travel ball club which is Cache Valley Vengeance 18U. From what info I could find they are a local club and play most everything in the local area. No signs of them attending any National showcase tournaments. Could be a $$ issue.
During her High School softball sophomore season she hit 27 home runs and was of course the district MVP, won state with other awards, blah, blah, blah. As we know high school stats do not translate to D1 ball.
She appears to play all positions, except pitcher, so I would say she's a utility player.
She is not listed anywhere in the Extra Innings Softball rankings. Do expect that to change next year since she has signed with Texas.
From her IG account she did make visits to Iowa and Utah as well as Texas.
Clearly the Coaches think they have found a Diamond in the rough with some pretty huge upside.

Mataia Lawson & Alisa Sneed made the top 50 2025 recruit list for Perfect Game Softball. None of our other commits made the list. Hannah Wells and Jaycie Nichols have been on most of the other recruiting outlet lists. This list is soooo objective! And it is hard to cover all the players out there. Not sure how reputable Perfect Game is??

Commitment Anne Wallace is selected Best Player in Utah by MaxPreps. And this was based on her sophomore season!!

Coach White seems to know how to find and develop the pitchers he recruits. Appears Hannah Wells will be another good one! Pretty sure her catcher Mia Clemmer will follower in the class of 2026 as a BIG bat and catcher!
