2023 Softball Transfers

Out of the 4 big names left in the portal which are Vawter, Kern, Keeney, and Maxwell I’m pretty sure Keeney is going to OU. Vawter should be going to Florida. Now 100% sure about Kern and Maxwell yet.

Erickson just followed Kelly Maxwell and Maxwell followed her back. Would make total sense for Maxwell and Vawter to go to Florida considering they only have 2 pitches for the season who are both freshman coming in.

I think it’s a strong possibility at this point they both go to Florida but I’m hoping that’s not the case. I want Maxwell at Texas. I think our pitching will be fine without her but she would instantly take this team to the next level.

Other than "follows", is there anything that strongly suggest that Vawter is leaning Florida and not considering us anymore?

I think it will be Duke, Florida, or Florida state. I believe she visited Florida or Florida state already and that’s the only one I’ve heard of. Nobody really knows until it’s official I just think all the signs point to her going elsewhere.

Well realistically, she was committed to Texas and then when Mike White became the coach, she decommitted…it may just have to do with Mike White. I was told Duke and Florida are most likely where she’s going.

Hopefully the key issue is what grad engineering program best fits her. I did a search on her background and early on in HS she said that post-graduation, she wanted to be an engineer. I don't understand Stanford's engineering degree program, but she did indeed get a degree in Management and Engineering. So, now she maybe looking over the prospective schools' engineering degree program to see which ones would be prestigious enough as well has how her undergraduate credits convert to a school's engineering program. Maybe.

It is strange not to see an announcement of Maxwell or Vawter to OU. Florida may have only 2 freshmen pitchers but OU, prior to the Wisconsin and Liberty transfer only had Nicole May and Kierston Deal.

Added: I don't know the incoming freshmen pitchers for OU.

Some are saying Maxwell has committed to the gators and an announcement should be coming soon. Once again it’s all speculation until it’s official so I guess we’ll find out pretty soon.

Didn't you just tell us a couple of days ago that "there is smoke with Texas and Maxwell as well as Oklahoma." and that Texas is a "very strong contender for Maxwell"?

That is exactly what I said but nowhere did I say Texas was going to 100% grab her. There is “smoke” meaning there is a chance and Texas is considered as a transfer spot. Once again it’s all speculation until an official announcement is made. There could still be a possibility she comes to Texas I am just saying what I’m hearing at the moment and that can change at any moment which is why I also said nothing is set until an announcement is made.

They had May, Deal, and Guerin (sp). They don't have any pitchers in the freshman class. I don’t think it's all that strange that Vawter or Maxwell have committed to OU. Looks like OU wanted younger pitchers and are ready for Deal to play a lot more. Plus, neither player probably really cared for them.

Not trying to pick a fight. Trying to show how the chances of Texas landing either Maxwell or Vawter are as unrealistic as OU. Although as I type that, I wonder why OU wasn't a logical choice for either of them. I'm thinking Maxwell is a NO because she spent her career at OSU. I'm guessing that Vawter is a NO because she's looking for a good grad engineering program. All guesses.

OU:
May
Deal
Guerin (redshirted 2023)
Monticelli (Wisconson transfer)
Keeney (Liberty transfer)
Parker (freshman UTL/Pitcher)
Pickering (freshman UTL/Pitcher)

Texas:
Czech
Simpson
Morgan
Gutierrez
Kavan (freshman)

Both teams will have 5 full time pitchers. Realistic that either Maxell or Vawter want to be the sixth? No obviously, both would immediately vault to the top of their team as their ace. And realistically, OU would most likely repeat as champs with 2 ace pitchers.

Of course I'm rooting for those two players to go to Florida or Texas (unlikely for the reasons spelled out). The worse the OU pitching the better it is for everyone else.

Texas has reached out to Maxwell. Whether she accepts the offer is on her but know that Texas reached out and is trying/tried to get here. My other source said that she is most likely going to Florida. And that Vawter is going to Florida or Duke. But it’s best to wait for official announcements. Don’t forget there was an article that said Maxwell will be entering the portal and heading to OU soon. Next morning, she enters the portal so people assumed since the article was right, she will be going to OU but that looks very unlikely.

So, what's the "offer" ? Full scholarship? What's the NIL package being offered?

Just so I understand, when you say you are "hearing" does that mean someone is telling you this, or you are reading the tidbits/clues like the rest of us on different message boards?

Just seems that 2 days ago you stated we were a "very strong contender" and now you are "hearing" she is headed to Florida. I get that you are just passing along info; but, if she's truly already decided on Florida, then I doubt we were ever a very strong contender.

I’m not sure the details of the “offer” but if they are calling for you because they want her, you know they are offering something.
Hard to imagine many if any programs have a full scholarship available this late in the process; although, Bahl leaving OU probably left them with a full scholarship to offer (unless it has gone to the 2 pitchers they've already signed from the portal).

So, it could come down to factors outside the actual scholarship funds. Wonder if at Texas (or A&M) she would have to pay less tuition being from the state of Texas (unless her last 4 years at OSU have changed her residency to the state of Oklahoma instead).

As a father of two college kids, I was stunned to only learn this year that Texas-Oklahoma-Arkansas have a handshake agreement that kids in those 3 states pay "in-state" tuition among those 3 schools. I'm probably wrong and there may be a 4th or 5th, or.....many other schools with this agreement. Our kids only applied to in-state schools, thus my lack of practical information.

I think we can cross out Texas for Maxwell and Vawter:(

Yes I’ve said this from the beginning lol. Texas already had 5 pitchers. No scholarships available either. And a lot of players don’t want to use all their NIL money for tuition. I’m pretty sure the both of them are going to Florida. I would be shocked if one come to Texas.

Oklahoma does as well and from the looks of it they may be getting her. Or at least she’s considering it so that shouldn’t be a problem. I think NIL is a big factor in her decision.

It’s being reported that Maxwell will be taking some visits this week and weekend. It seems she visited or is visiting Oklahoma at the moment.

A well known reporter at FSU by the name of Chris nee reports that Texas seems to be the favorite for Maxwell at the moment. I hope this is true and Texas will at least get a visit this week.
