Sounds like the same kind of rule that won’t allow Vic to add Blair to the coaching staff.saw that Georgia might not have allowed that hire.

I've wondered about that. But, she is someone who reports to him, right? So, don't see the difference.Sounds like the same kind of rule that won’t allow Vic to add Blair to the coaching staff.
If I had to guess, as DOBO, she appears on the org chart under Kathy Harston or CDC but everyone knows who the boss actually is. If that's the case, it might have been set up that way specifically for Blair.I've wondered about that. But, she is someone who reports to him, right? So, don't see the difference.
Well, so much for the "threat" of Vic leaving for his alma mater. Gosh, I sure hope we don't have to worry about him taking one of the other jobs like Missouri State, West Virginia, etc.
Anyone who suggested he would leave UT was either delusional or just trying to start **** (nice try though). He, like Coach Conradt, recognized when he landed the dream job. JC is a Baylor grad and you never saw her trying to get back there. Just sayin'...
Texas A&M hires Georgia's Joni Taylor as women's basketball coach
Exactly. And to compare what Baylor was at the time Jodie was coaching, before Mulkey showed up to a&m in which that program had their best success primarily because of Vic doesn't make any sense. While there were likely some posters **** stirring rumors to shade our program (such is the nature of anonymous message boards), I don't think those of us worried he'd leave for his alma mater were delusional. I was hoping he would stay but there was a point in the season when he didn't seem too happy with things here and was taking some swipes at the athletics administration and their support of his program. That had me worried. Along with the fact A&M has proven they are more than willing to write crazy checks to hire winning coaches, I think it was reasonable to believe Vic was on their radar. Glad that they have their coach and this issue is behind us.
It makes plenty of sense in that Vic, just like Jody, wasn't going anywhere. They know where the getting is good. There is not a better WBB coaching job in this state when guided by a competent staff.Exactly. I would agree with that, but great players can make great coaches. She's never had anyone with the talent and potential of a player like Baker. If she's able to bring Baker with her she'll have a nice foundational piece to build around.I just honestly don’t see how this does anything for A&M. Joni won’t have anything in College Station that she didn’t have in Athens so why would Aggy expect her to do more? Middle of the pack in conference and early round exits in post conference…are they good with that?
I used to follow UGA very closely, but haven’t since Andy Landers left. Did I miss the part where Joni did great things at Georgia?

You seem to be too defensive when it comes to this topic. The reality is that I, like a lot of other Texas fans on here were worried about his unhappiness and displeasure with the fan support and some of the other things that were discussed. You're acting as if all this stuff was just made up. With that said, I'm glad Vic will obviously be the coach until he retires and hopefully he can surpass what Jody did.It makes plenty of sense in that Vic, just like Jody, wasn't going anywhere. The attempts to stir **** and make people doubt Vic's commitment and loyalty are now OFFICIALLY debunked.
Vic is competent, and he hires competent people to his staff. We will indeed be successful under their tenure. You seem to be too defensive when it comes to this topic. Texas has the same nepotism rule for state schools. I believe it bars immediate family from being subordinates which is why Blair remains in her “ops” role as she technically does not report directly to Vic.Could be that Joni's husband (former assistant at South Carolina) and current assistant with the Atlanta Dream could be joining her at A&M; saw that Georgia might not have allowed that hire.
I feel bad for Kelly Bond-White. She turned down numerous head coaching opportunities and was loyal to Gary Blair. This is why I feel that if you're an assistant and you want to be a head coach don't wait.A few recruits could be hopping about as well in the coming days and weeks. Kelly Bond-White was their best recruiter and they had some good players coming in, specifically at the position group she coached (guards).

Most likely would eliminate Ole Miss as an option for Rickea Jackson; could make Georgia an option. Rickea has one remaining official visit allowed.More smash and grab within the SEC...

That is really sad. Loyal to the core to Blair and look what happened. From inside sources, Karen Aston asked if she would be considered for head coach when Jody retired and was told no by Plonsky. Thus her departure. I always wondered if it would have been different if Aston had immediately followed Jody. We’ll never know. Loyalty isn’t always rewarded.... I've always wondered also how things might have shaken out if had there been continuity with Karen being Jody's immediate successor. That is really sad. Anonymous coaches' poll: What's the best job in women's basketball? The answers might surprise youIn a poll of 30 Power Five coaches asking what is the top WBB job in country by the Athletic. Texas number one with 9 votes. Stanford second with 7. Third was Tennessee and Duke with 3 votes. Lots of good comments on all programs.
Kinda surprised to see Duke on that list for WBB.
It all goes back to the optics / the way things look. It's hard for the AD to sell to the fans promoting from within when the team has a bad year and doesn't make the tournament the way Jody did her last year. That is really sad. Very surprised.Kinda surprised to see Duke on that list for WBB.
I agree the optics are absolutely important... we had a nice "optic" with our last coach as KA was a very attractive woman. That said, obviously, the sexual orientation part has never been a factor with our school and something I'm proud of... unlike that armpit of bigotry in Waco.I also think with coaching hires the optics are always important. Don't think that the fact that Joni is a young, attractive, straight, Black female head coach can't be important.
I honestly haven't ever heard anybody say they WERE a fan of hers. How she hangs on to a job in the athletic department is beyond me.Never have been a fan of Plonsky.
I think it’s quite obvious how she hangs onto it. She has the personality of a wall and has repeatedly been rude to fans and supporters. She is effectively now a “pencil sharpener” but still draws that salary. All that OLD energy needs to go... Thankful to now have Coach Schaefer who engages fans and shows his appreciation.I honestly haven't ever heard anybody say they WERE a fan of hers. How she hangs on to a job in the athletic department is beyond me.
She’s buried a fair share of bodies. She’ll never be pushed out.I honestly haven't ever heard anybody say they WERE a fan of hers. How she hangs on to a job in the athletic department is beyond me.
I can’t read the article because I don’t subsribe to that magazine, but let me take a stab. When Gail came to Texas, we became somewhat friendly. She struggled with recruiting because she mistakenly assumed (or was led to believe) it would be easy to get the best kids to come to Texas. Why? Because it had been easy to get them to come to Duke. Academically not just anyone can go to Duke. As a school Duke is seen as “almost” Ivey League. If you were really smart and athletically gifted, Duke was on your list. Essentially, recruiting was easier because the kids that wanted to come to Duke didn’t have a whole lot of options. If you weren’t going to Harvard, Yale or Princeton, Duke was a logical choice. I would imagine having somewhat easier recruiting capabilities makes the Duke job much less stressful.Kinda surprised to see Duke on that list for WBB.
