2019 Recruiting - Football

If he picks aggsy it will because he knows he is not B12 ready.
Shepherd may seem flaky or he is crazy like a fox. He is enjoying all those visits. But when he comes to the good guys and he he is putting defensive players on their backs then the horn fans will forgive and forget. He has a right to have fun with his visits.

He IS still committed to Texas. And I doubt he doesnt realize Texas is within striking distance of the playoff. We dominated Georgia, Bama is vulnerable and aggy is 2nd rate. That has to resonate.

I 100% agree he should enjoy his recruiting process and take every recruiting trip. This situation seems to be more fruit loop oriented as he is being pimped out by footwork king. After the issues with his hs coach and other things he seems to be all about drama.

Something sort of interesting from Booby Burton of Texas247. I was thinking of this myself (these 3 teams in the top 5) but never bothered to look it up --

" .... So why am I recounting all of this? In the state of Texas, there is usually a clear winner and a clear loser when it comes to recruiting. Either Texas wins and A&M loses, or vice versa. It's been that way since pretty much forever. And if you include OU in the equation, then maybe there have been two winners and one loser, or one winner and two losers. It's been the same outcome, each and every year.

Yet the current national recruiting rankings this year place Texas at 3, A&M at 4 and OU at 5. That's three top five classes in a single year. In the history of online team recruiting rankings, those three programs have never before finished in the top 5 together at the same time. In fact, the only time all three finished in the top 10 together was 2004, when OU finished 8th, Texas 9th and A&M 10th.

What's more, of those three teams, even two of them have never finished in the top 5 in the same year. Yet, all of a sudden, there are three in the top five. Is this a new trend where these three programs are all able to recruit at the elite level simultaneously? Perhaps it's a by-product of Texas recruiting nationally more like Oklahoma. Or perhaps it's a consequence of A&M going to the SEC, which lets three teams, not just one or two rule the roost. Or perhaps it's a lot of factors all coming together at once.

Is this year a trend or is it an anomaly? The truth is, we don't know yet. All I know is that I've never seen these three teams all have such great years in recruiting in the same year. "

Yet another grad transfer OL hitting the mkt we have interest in -- Parker Braun of Georgia Tech. This guy is a step up from all the other GT OLs we are after. The Atlanta newspaper calls him the best player on the entire team.

"Braun, a three-year starter who had played 32 consecutive games, was named first-team All-ACC this past season after being named second-team All-ACC as a sophomore. Since earning a spot in the starting lineup in the middle of the 2016 season, Braun was an anchor on the line, a forceful combination of agility, unrelenting effort and power. He easily qualifies as one of the top two or three offensive linemen in former coach Paul Johnson’s 11-season tenure."

Has he mentioned any places he’s interested in transferring to?

Has he mentioned any places he’s interested in transferring to?

He is visiting Florida this weekend

Also, from 247Texas --
"Coach Hand met with him in Atlanta yesterday, everything went well and Braun said he will visit "soon." ...."

They also say Braun has an aunt who lives in Austin.

TFB on this --
"2019 offensive tackle commit Javonne Shepherd (Houston, TX) will be in Austin. This is huge for Texas as he is coming off a visit to College Sation and Texas A&M.
We know a lot of people think A&M is likely to flip Shepherd, but at this point, we do not share that sentiment and we feel Texas holds onto him."
More --
Dodge City C.C. inside linebacker Lakia Henry is also scheduled to take his official visit to Texas this weekend.
Texas is hoping to seal the deal and take his commitment and we feel there is a solid chance that could happen. We will catch up with Lakia prior to his visit.

To get Parker Braun, Shepherd, and Henry that would be awesome. We could stop there and have a really top notch class. I didn't ever think that we could top last year's class but maybe we will.:beertoast:
And then I really believe 2020 class will be very good also. Herman appears to be worth those bucks and I haven't always been a fan of his.

I am expecting the moon from here on out and I think we are in the elite with Bama and Clemson because we have the players.

Texas would also help establish itself as a premier grad transfer location.

I admit that I, along with a number of fellow HornFans posters rode TH a bit early on with his overt efforts on smashing existing lockers and spending a ton on new, flashy personal, uh, cubicles for each Horn. Of course, it was early in his tenure here, still also trying to prove himself on the field.

I will perhaps eat a crow omelette, or CLT (crow, lettuce, and tomato) sandwich, admitting perhaps that it may have paid off (certainly didn't hurt).

But with regard to other indirect efforts in recruiting (as per the previous poster quote above), I toss this out to Coach "Mensa" Herman (meant with all good cheer). Why not meet with the convenor of the College of Business Administration (McCombs) to develop an MBA program, specifically "Professional Sports Management" targeted exclusively towards college athletes who have, say lettered at their undergraduate university and who have then come to Austin as a graduate transfer (of course could include UT lettermen, uh, letterpersons).

These athletes, almost by definition, still have enough ability in them to contribute on the field, or court, or natatoriam, or whatever arena, but probably won't be going on to the professional level, otherwise they'd probably be there after their undergraduate completion.

The degree plan could include the obvious hardcore business courses like finance and accounting, but could rope in professors from the Law School (contracts, agency, liability), Psychology department (team dynamics, motivation, public perception), Biology (advanced lectures on recent trends in high level athletic training), and the LBJ School of Public Affairs (interaction with governmental entities), among others.

UT Austin could become THE place to transfer to as a graduate to do another year playing, while completing THE recognized masters degree plan in the various aspects of professional sports management. Suggested career targets: General Manager, Public Relations Manager, Executive Vice President, Athletic Director (college), Vice President-Marketing (for sports equipment vendors such as Nike, UnderArmor, Gatorade, etc.).

Maybe they already do this? Anyone?

The board SECRant has been watching the Footwork King for awhile. They said their might be some friction between he and the Shepherd family. If so, this probably is something in our favor. But, as always, we will see.
