2019 Recruiting - Football

...I really like what we are seeing from Herman, Orlando and the others so far. Jimbo is supposed to be the next coming — and of course that’s what the aggies are counting on — but I’m not so sure....

I suspect most everyone here agrees. The main thing with this late rankings climb is that we all knew it would cause an aggy meltdown, which it did. So that was pretty much just for entertainment value. Not to mention it reinforces the overall perception that our program is hot and on the rise. But what really matters is that our coaches/recruiters are good talent evaluators and the evidence to date suggests that they are.

Carrington is suppose to be picking them up at the airport

Of course, we must implore ourselves to remain open that this is just a momentary upsurge because if Javon remains true to form, he will pull a Ryan Perilloux and Aggy will probably pull back ahead. In the end, we have a great class but need to keep on keeping on; especially with the beef.

I read somewhere that even if J Shepherd picks Ags that they will still fall a fraction short in passing us in the 24/7 rankings.

It's fun watching the aggsy melt down, but as Is said before all this happened. I was happy with our class no matter what the services say, our recruits did well for us in the all star games and proved TH knows what he is doing.

Combine this class with the last one and we are building some solid depth at every position except for oline which I hope can can turn around next year.

One thing I looked at was that our avg player score would rise and their avg player score would slide if he flipped to aggy

So if I have this straight the difference in the two classes is going to be less than .1%. Sounds like the kid who makes 100 on his six-weeks-test bragging about how much smarter they are than the one who made 99.

Again, there are multiple recruiting services that each have their own team ranking. Then there is also a Team Composite (done by 247) which combines all the publicly available team rankings into one (I previously posted their methodology some number of pages back). On top of that, each recruiting site also has a player score average for each team (which is what I was talking about on Shepherd, just above). The advantage of this last one is, of course, it allows you to be able to compare the perceived strength of competing classes of different sizes (for example, one team might have 29 commits while another might have just 22).

You dont really specify which of all these possibilities you are talking about.

The possibility I'm talking about is either fanbase thinking that small a margin makes any difference and gives them bragging rights.

Joe, are you becoming a slackerd? Where’s a pic at AUS with the Bru welcoming committee?
:idk:

OK, sure. Mid-flight update -- Bru goes to the can. Inside, Taylor ("toilet smurf") Hamm appeared from under the sink. He had written a tome about all the accomplishments by "Jimbos" in world history which he had reverse rolled into the tp dispenser. The Hammster was reportedly muttering a word that sounded a lot like "furk" as he shuffled away, in a somewhat disheveled hand-me-down Malikmas t-shirt

I do also enjoy the Aggie misery, which is basically "we have our best class ever, but the "sips" still beat us."

Not to steer toward the glass half empty, but I have a similar thought about OU, which is that we have our best recruiting class in a long time, and there OU is just with us, plus adding an SEC player of the year transfer. OU is the hill we have to climb (again), not Ags.

Still, we are getting to where we won't be outclassed in talent, no matter whom we play, and that's been a long time coming.

But you know, we're talking about people here and I would presume Shepherd is a lot more than the points right? We need the depth but we don't need the headache. I don't know that people change. We can argue all day long that it's his right to make a few OV's after committing but the real story is that he was kicked off his team for a time and continues to play the game. I don't know that it's worth the trouble.

If he goes to Aggy they'll gloat and our, "No big loss, he's a diva" comments will be seen as a loser's lament. So I don't like to play the game of comparisons. I figure it's like women; they're either right for you or they're not. You can't make someone into something they're not. We all know the cultural difference between UT and Old Sarge couldn't be more stark. If he picks the cult then what is the point of crying about it? We are not they and they are not us. In the end, one football player matters not.

Besides, we all know the "rivalry" was as one-sided as they get in the context of their apparent opinion that they matter. Texas will always have the scoreboard over the last thousand years including the last game played on their turf.

The era of OU dominance has ended. In 2017, with a Heisman caliber QB, they had to come back to beat a Texas team lead by a true freshman.

In 18, in October we mostly dominated an OU team quarterbacked by another Heisman caliber QB. In game two, if officiated competently, we might well have won that game as well.

Riley might be an offensive genius but we really don’t know because he inherited unusual talent at the QB position. Such good fortune is very rare.

I predict that for the first time in a while, Texas will be picked to win the conference, and win the conference we will.

OU will be good but they are going to take a step back, albeit perhaps a small step back. Hurts might be very good, but I just cannot imagine that he will be the factor that Mayfield and Murray were over the past two years.

I like your confidence.

Side note: with Bru McCoy on campus, we now have 10 of the 23 signees early enrolled and will take part in spring practices. I didn't include Shepherd since he has not signed as of yet. (At least to my knowledge, he's supposed to sign on NSD2)

If he picks aggsy it will because he knows he is not B12 ready.

Grad Transfer OL RJ Proctor will visit tOSU, FSU and then us Feb 16.
He started 6g for UVA last season after a knee injury in camp
