2019 Recruiting - Football

They had an older brother who was an OL at GT from 2011-2015 also. Both parents played sports at Army
Sounds like these two brothers would be great assets to have in Burnt Orange. Since the parents were athletes at West Point, the character and culture of these two is likely above reproach.

The board SECRant has been watching the Footwork King for awhile. They said their might be some friction between he and the Shepherd family. If so, this probably is something in our favor. But, as always, we will see.

Speaking of the FWK --

I have a theory I've been pondering in the back of my head. If FWK gets paid for delivering an athlete on a visit, I'm wondering if he had an agreement with Shepherd to go on a little tour in order to grab a little extra scratch.

After seeing that tweet about what FWK charges for his services to get someone a POW, I'm wondering if he has a similar charge for working with high profile kids like Shepherd and his fee is built into taking the kid on on tour to different schools that will pay the handler to get him there.

In other words, this 3 school tour was Shepherd's way of paying the bill to FWK.

Yet another grad transfer OL hitting the mkt we have interest in -- Parker Braun of Georgia Tech. This guy is a step up from all the other GT OLs we are after. The Atlanta newspaper calls him the best player on the entire team.

"Braun, a three-year starter who had played 32 consecutive games, was named first-team All-ACC this past season after being named second-team All-ACC as a sophomore. Since earning a spot in the starting lineup in the middle of the 2016 season, Braun was an anchor on the line, a forceful combination of agility, unrelenting effort and power. He easily qualifies as one of the top two or three offensive linemen in former coach Paul Johnson’s 11-season tenure."

Parker Braun to transfer from Georgia Tech

Has he mentioned any places he’s interested in transferring to?

OL Parker Braun has set his Texas visit for Feb 15
Family in tow

With ESPN updated
247: #3
Rivals: #3
ESPN: #5

The calculator suggests the following --

IF LSU adds Sophser, Lee and CWilliams to their class, they would end up at 291.08 which would put them at #3 in the Composite

IF we land Lakia Henry and hold Shepherd, we would end up at 288.46, good enough to hold the #4 class in the Composite

aggy and ou would battle it out for 5th, with the current lean to aggy

I watched the film that I could find and click on him. Looks like a (relatively) lean, strong, quick, mobile, very high-quality "pulling guard" with good football instincts. IMHO, he's a definite take if he's interested. Looks strong for his weight because he's not as fat as most college OGs.

No offense to our current OGs, but this guy will be starting for us if he comes here.

For any who doubt the utility of a 280 pound OG on this level, check this out:

"Despite his doubts, Braun was encouraged by his play in Tech’s 49-21 loss to Clemson against the Tigers’ cadre of future early-round draft picks. In a forgettable afternoon for the Jackets, Braun more than held his own, putting multiple defensive linemen on their backs and engaging with Clemson’s agile defenders in space and driving them backward."

Jackets’ Parker Braun ‘has a motor out of this world’

That's a great recommendation for Braun - the Clemson defense is scary good.
Rivals' searchable archives reveals he was a 3 star OL from Hallsville from 2016. Just goes to show that it can be quite difficult to evaluate HS OL. There's plenty of future OL studs with 3 stars like Braun and plenty of future OL duds with 4 stars. IMHO, only a handful of OL recruits are 'can't miss' nationwide. Development matters greatly, which is why it's great to have Coach Hand at UT.

Interesting Shane is much higher than Cam. I sure a lot goes into this, but I’m hoping Shane can land in a perfect fit. Not sure what the depth chart at Duke is like, but would love to see him under a guy like that.
Or even the Pirate?
I could see Shane as an excellent coach someday.

Conner Williams as I recall was a 3*. That turned out pretty well for us.

For transfers, certainty is more important than potential as you have less time to develop. We covered this already as to why transfers automatically get 3* regardless of potential.

BON on what the McCoy flip means

In my view, Austin is California. And if California athletes are Liberal or even just Democrats, then what our community sells is exactly how they want to live. Add to that a winning program and the fit makes perfect sense. It is a long way from home though so we have to have a compelling story to compete with such a local program as USC.

The Texas WR class is just so epic this season. Already stated elsewhere but the Gatorade Player of the year at WR (Jake Smith), the MaxPrep player of the year at WR (Bru McCoy), and the Texas 4A player of the year (Whittington).

This reminds me of last year's DB haul. That is working out pretty well for us right now. I expect this WR class to do the same.

Sam should have a nice arsenal of weapons for his last two seasons on the 40

i'd probably think the comparison is more about being "diverse." A culture that's cool with whatever. Taking politics out, lots of different types in Austin, like Cali. I think Austin and California have many similarities in that regard.

That's cool. I did use political terms. I wasn't trying to make it political but diverse is a good semantical alternative.

This WR group has me as excited as the 2000 triplets class: BJ Johnson, Roy Williams, and Sloan Thomas.

because i see intolerance on both sides of the political spectrum, i actually think Austin is special in this way. Lots of different and people are cool with that. It's the part of the Keep Austin Weird vibe that I like.

If we get Evans then I am really salivating about the next several years to go along with the beef we are getting on the line and all those great wide receivers we should be lethal if the play-calling is good.

Look for the FWK driving up to Delmar in a brand new F-250

He's beyond stupid if he drives an F-250 to Delmar - too close to Acres Homes, where a very well known "businessman" drives an F250. Wouldn't want to be confused for either one of them.

If the play calling is good....ummm. No amount of talent can overcome that flaw. Seen it lately? It can frustrate you.
