where is greggo?

mike: this pretty much says to me, he doesnt want to come back.

that's interesting. painting the picture that the doors werent necessarily slammed and locked on greggo's return.

That was pretty much what I expected, but still. . .pretty damn strong.

You can tell Mike and Corby are pissed at Greggo, I just have to think there's way, way, way more to this story and in the past 10 years that went on with that group than we'll ever know about.

I'm in clined to believe more of the crazy greggo rumors than before, although who knows.

This for sure paves the way for the Dan and Rocco show.

I'd really like to know the 'untold' story. Mike said he doesn't turn his back on a person in need, and is all for giving 2nd chances. It's the 4th or 5th chance he has a problem with.

Greggo really ****** this thing up....that's for sure.

If we are ever to hear the full story, it will have to be from Greggo. Rhynes seems too chicken **** to talk about it for fear of retribution (legally or from the company).

It's funny how they can't say anything yet they said a lot without going into specifics. It's obvious that the many times Greggo was "sick", he really wasn't. I also get the feeling that he was given a chance to get clean, didn't, was told it is over, then sued. Why else with the cease and desist? Well, Hammer ****** up having one of the best jobs in the country. Hope the coke was worth it shithead. Also, I bet they bring in either K-Scott, Ritchie Whitt (boo) or someone we have never heard of after the holidays are over.

I bet once this is all cleared up IF the station really wanted to (which they may not just for the sake of a clean break) they could still use his drops. They probably "own" anything he creates while on air.

Well, this sucks. I knew it was going to wind up going down like this but it still sucks. As somebody said earlier, they all seem to be floundering without Greggo. Not that he's Edward R. Murrow or something but he was a nice bridge between the really old (Rhyner) and the 30-somethings (Corby and Danny).

I met a guy at a holiday party tonight who is pretty tight with Corby. He wouldn't go into much detail about any of this but it sounds like they've already got somebody pegged to take the slot with Rhyner and I didn't get the impression that it was anybody in-house. I also think the person is local, though I'm more confident in the "no in-house" prediction than the "new co-host already being in the market" one. I don't have a clue who he might mean. (I know it's not Cooperstein. Maybe Followil?)

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Richie Whitt get it. He was pretty sharp in his limited appearances. I think Corby would suck. He's trying way too hard right now. And K-Scott is OK but not for four hours of drive time in this market.

why do want this to be over? too many good threads with insightful comments?

followill would be awesome, but he doesnt add anything to baseball talk. the hardline is baseball talk at its best. they need someone that knows their stuff.

i still say that hardline on from noon to three and BaDD radio in drivetime would make the ticket great again. corby as a host is a bad idea. a really bad idea. i love cobby in the role he was in. but he doesnt hold a candle to a drivetime sports host. sorry cobby.

that must be it smarty mcnotsosmart. thanks for making up my mind. this get till Monday.

Unless Followill is dropping the Mavs TV play by play job, I doubt they are going with him. He would be gone most of the week to away games. I wouldn't mind the Spokesman of a Generation coming back. I always liked the Ender.

There is no way it will be Followill. He makes way too much and has a great gig to just walk away for a radio show.

I don't think BaD Radio to drive time would work. The audience they draw at mid day is different than who tunes in during drive time and I don't think their humor would go over very well. Their audience is the pot smoking, ps2 crowd not the 40 something professional. And I highly doubt Rhynes' ego would be moved from drive time, and rightfully so.

i have it on good authority that their first choice is skip bayless, and if he turns them down they will go after randy gallaway. if all else fails, they'll pull harry doyle out of retirement.

EDGAA's right. I think Rhynes is going to demand a baseball guy. The Hardline is the baseball show of note on the Ticket. Richie Whitt seems to know his baseball ****. He is definitely a country boy. He had a thick country accent when he guest hosted. Who knows. They may want an outsider.

Galloway is more of a "baseball guy" than Whitt. Having worked with both, I'd be happy to see either move onto that show. Galloway covered the Rangers for a lot of years at the DMN. I don't recall Whitt ever doing the baseball beat but I could be wrong. He's got more of a Ticket sense of humor than Randy, though.

Doesn't sound like Richie Whitt is going to be the guy. This is from the comments section on Friday's blog entry:

Richie Whitt says:

Before leaving on holiday vacation for a couple weeks I wanted to address a couple items.
1. Yes, I do hope/plan to pen an Observer cover story at some point detailing the "back story" Mike referred to on Friday. I have spoken with Greggo and some of the guys at the station at length about the erosion of the chemistry and kinship, yet I still feel certain I haven't even begun to scratch the surface. And, at this point, no one is willing to take the mess on-the-record. When Hammer lands on his feet and The Hardline moves forward I'd like to think both parties will allow me to tell their sides of the story. We'll see.
2. Though I'm flattered at some of the suggestions that I be added to the show as a third voice, I have no feeling whatsoever about the direction those boys will eventually take. I enjoyed sitting in with them on a couple of occasions, but that's as far as it's gone. I do know this: The Hardline replacing Hammer will be kind of like Monday Night Football trying to replace Dandy Don Meredith.
3. Having known Hammer since our days hanging out together at Cowboys training camp in the early '90s as a Star-Telegram cub reporter and a WBAP gopher, I'm truly saddened by Greg's situation. I hope he gets the help he needs personally before he attempts to re-kindle his life professionally.
Merry Christmas.

You guys are some speculative/imaginative mf'ers. Some of the names being thrown out (and being seriously discussed), are just off the wall. Mark Followill? He has one of those "what would you do?" jobs. He was married before he got that Mavs gig, and he's not anymore. I'm guessing he likes it, especially considering he's the best young up-and-comer in the biz.

Richie Whitt? Love his stuff, but he's not really a radio guy. He sat in on a couple of shows- they weren't auditioning him. They haven't been auditioning anyone- just making the best of an awkward situation.

I think you're listening to the Hardline as it will go forward. And that's cool by me.

^^^

Rhynes said on Friday that they will be adding somebody in 08. He knows they can't go with the current lineup over the long haul. Corby is a yuk monkey, not a #2 guy.

Danny actually knows some baseball. He follows the Rangers pretty damn closely, but he doesn't know much about the minor league teams (like Greggo and Rhynes). I guess Danny could do more on the baseball front, but I still think Rhynes wants a seasoned pro in there.

Yeah, there's no way Followill leaves his Mavs gig. He's one of the best young play-by-play announcers in the business. He's even done some national game broadcasts while filling in for Shulman or Jim Durham (radio).

His NBA gig is pretty sweet. He even gets a per diem very close to what the players get, if I'm not mistaken. In a few years, I doubt the Mavs will be able to hang on to him, unless he wants it that way.

I am a die hard ticket listener.....but do i really care if corby and danny dont talk sports? that is what makes the station so great.....its not sport talk radio...its guy talk radio.
