Week 2 Prediction Thread: Texas vs Alabama...7-1-1

Alabama - 42
Texas - 14

I'm thinking a competitive first half and then a second half where talent and physical superiority wears us down. Quinn is the key for this not to be a UCLA type beat-down (66-3; I was there). He can't throw pics like he did in the first series. I remember Whittington was wide open over the middle for a first down but Quinn just didn't look/see him. He had to get that ball out of his hands fast but the play was there. Then he scrambled and made a bad throw. Ok. First game stuff. Hopefully that's all it was.

My dislike for Saban was when he allowed the last touchdown when he could have taken a knee in the National Championship game. That game was all in hand for Bama, no reason not to take the knee.

Line has moved and not in a good way if you are a fan of the Fighting DKR's. Consensus in Vegas is now running between 20 and 20.5, with the O/U having moved up to 65.5. There are still some 64.5 postings, for those who dabble in middles. I will be placing bets on this game live and in person since I will be at Circa Las Vegas over the weekend, so some of what follows also allows you to know where my bet slips will land...

The lime movement suggests the betting public is expecting something along the lines of 45-21, 42-24.

I would like to believe that the Texas offense is capable of opening up a playbook and putting more than a low to mid 20's on the board, but I also expect some miscues result in points the other direction. Add in some uncertainty about the Texas Special Teams, specifically place-kicking, and I see points not showing up that should have been on the board.

Defensively, Texas needs to avoid injuries. This will be their mid-term despite being only a Week 2 game on the schedule. They SHOULD be able to force Alabama to keep starters in well into the second half. However, they need some help from the offense and also the punt team to avoid cheap points and to flip the field on punts...

I *HATE* having to pick some other team to win, especially when Texas plays at home, but...I see the over hitting and Texas covering the spread. However, Texas does not win this one...

THE University of Texas: 24
Elephants of Alabama: 43

If Texas can avoid the 3 and outs, I don’t see how Bama scores more than 35.

The problem is that an ALA team that is executing even at an 80% clip DOES avoid the 3 and out's...and unless Texas establishes a run game EARLY and can chew clock, I see scores on at least a series each quarter, with two quarters having two scores by the elephant droppings.

Candidly I will be impressed if we avoid 3 and outs period. I’m going in with dread but the proverbial Hook ‘em prayer in my heart.
