Week 2 Prediction Thread: Texas vs Alabama...7-1-1

I’m a little surprised at your lack of confidence in our TE capabilities
They will double team our TE’s after they get burned in the 1st half and blitz our qb before Quinn has time to find an open receiver. Bama’s plan is to overwhelm our OL to disrupt the QB. If the QB can get the ball to RB or WR, we will be able to move the ball or make a big play.

I'm pumped about Sanders, but it'll take more than one good game against one of the crappier teams in FBS to make me think we found a new secret weapon for tearing up the Alabama defense.

There is an alternative if Sark is bold enough - play 3 TE (one blocking, two receiving) where doubling up is not possible. Then we might have a chance. Yes, we take 1-2 WR off the field, but I think it is worth it all else equal.

I got in last night but did not venture to the book until thus AM.

Baby bets on Texas +20 and the over at 65.5.

$100 on each. I will continue to watch and may work some middling in if I get the right numbers.

I now return to mostly lurking until I finally go home...

Not sure we want to be playing in a phone booth... I can see a lot of 12 or 21 personnel. Let ROJO chip their ends. If they load the box, the screen game to mid passing has a shot. We likely get just run down by a deeper, more developed front 7 and O-line. But hey... why not us?

Replay of 2010 National Championship game.
For both games we'll have had a 5 star freshman QB leading the Horns.
Also, in each game a SouthLake TX QB is starting ... what are the odds?
Unfortunately, I expect we will have the same results ..... and final score.

Bama 37
Horns 21

What are the odds???

Speed is irrelevant in a phone booth, but “moves” are. This is where our guys cut the mustard.

I keep thinking 41-20. I don't know that Alabama will hit a bunch of big plays but I think they'll be pretty methodical completing passes, moving the chains, controlling the ball. I expect Texas to make plays in between the 20s and struggle some actually getting into the end zone.

Texas' final score is going to be held down because they're going to probably forego some field goal opportunities, and I think Bama will likely be able to get pressure and come up with key stops. I don't think Bijan will be a huge factor in the run game, but I think he makes at least one big play as a receiver.

I'm calling a reverse to Worthy at some point in the first half, and he may or may not try and throw it.

I also think J-Whit may be an x-factor. He was relatively quiet last week, and I think he's got the best shot at drawing a mismatch in coverage. If we can protect the passer, he has a chance to break a crossing pattern for big yards.

I actually think our defense will do some good things - I expect we'll probably sacrifice some pressure by using Overshown as a spy on Young - if anyone on the team can run him down and at least contain some of the off-schedule runs, he can.

PH, I was thinking 1st play Worthy going wide from left around right side with RTE going up and left to move db and lb's and with guard and BR moving left. Need really good starting field position to increase odd's.

other option is to bring another wr (JW) up and left.....

No moral victories, no keeping it close, looking respectable, building for the future, winning halftime, or any other rubbish. That's what the Ags used to say when they'd always choke away taking the next step.

Texas is a big time program with we're always told is armed with a huge pile of money, a second year coach, a 5 star redshirt freshman QB, and playing at home. This is the type of game a program on the move up wins.

Texas needs to win this game and get back into relevance in college football. Moral victories don't cut it.

Both teams played cupcake openers.
Bama wins 55-0.
We win 52-10.
Not a big difference and ULM scored their points on our 3rd and 4th teamers.

Yet some of you think they will beat us down just as easily as they did Utah-State.
We won't score more than 7-14 while they score over 50? Really?
Bama's good.
But we ain't no Utah State.

We have won two games in my lifetime where Texas was a 20 point dog. OU 1989 and the Big 12 championship in 1996. It would be a miracle, but I’m hoping for some Texas Fight. I like we have had no idiot statements. Punch Bama in the f’ing mouth.

I almost came through for us. Every other time in the past that I've predicted we lose by 28+, we win (1998 Nebraska, 2013 Oklahoma, 2015 Baylor).
