I should think it is pretty obvious. If China takes over and nationalizes the chip plants, then we only buy them on China's terms, not on free market terms. What does that mean?

Because they are communists, hate the US, change policy towards the US all the time and may start a war against the US. The fact is we don't know WTF they might do and we can't be dependent on them regardless of how much we they need to sell to the US market.
If there's a war do you think they're going to sell us chips that guide our airplanes and missles?

China hasn't nationalized all the **** we buy from them, but with something as crucial as electronics? I wouldn't put it past them.
The CCP also maintains SOEs (State-Owned Enterprises) accounting for about 25 percent of GDP. SOEs operate in all industries, including manufacturing, mineral extraction, banking, and even hotels and restaurants. The CCP appoints the managers and supervisors of SOEs and directs their decision-making. In return, SOEs receive a number of benefits, such as state subsidies, easier access to capital from state-owned banks, and raw materials from state-owned mining companies. SOEs also get policy support, tax benefits, and a favorable regulatory framework. With the government providing these advantages, SOEs dominate strategic sectors such as energy, telecommunications, banking, and transportation.
Private companies of a certain size are required to maintain a party cell, a CCP committee responsible for implementing and maintaining party policies, adhering to political ideology, and upholding party discipline. Party committees influence decision-making and strategic planning, as well as the hiring, firing, and promoting of personnel.
Even foreign-owned companies and joint ventures and partnerships with foreign companies are required to maintain a party cell. Furthermore, the CCP maintains lists of sectors that are either closed to foreign companies or only open through a joint venture with a Chinese partner.
Warning!!! American ingenuity alert!Either way. Critical technology needs to be taken out of Taiwan ASAP. They also make all the zippers for the close you wear. Just think if China takes over Taiwan! No more zippers for you!
About the only thing that will stop the war on the Ukraine side is for NATO to commit to bringing them in only if they stop fighting and end by negotiation. That isn't in the cards so Viet Nam and Afghanistan (the Russian war) are going to pale as Russia slowly extinguishes the population of Ukraine.
