Ukraine updates

Because they are communists, hate the US, change policy towards the US all the time and may start a war against the US. The fact is we don't know WTF they might do and we can't be dependent on them regardless of how much we they need to sell to the US market.

If there's a war do you think they're going to sell us chips that guide our airplanes and missles?

How is that different than the billions of dollars of imports we already buy from them? Why not show concern for everything we already purchase from China? If these chips have military applications why not do everything possible to continue peace and avoid war?

And what war is China going to start with us? Attack our West Coast? I don't see the threat to America here and therefore the justification for treating this computer chips as some sort of mcguffin. The fact is that the only thing China MAY do is take over Taiwan. In that case it is most likely China would sell the same chips to us. Better to onshore that technology. It was unbelievably stupid to ever allow their manufacture right off the coast of China.

Isn't it true that China enacted new tariffs on US goods only after Trump's administration enacted tariffs on Chinese goods?

I should think it is pretty obvious. If China takes over and nationalizes the chip plants, then we only buy them on China's terms, not on free market terms.

So we don't buy current Chinese imports on free market terms? I thought we bought from them because they are so cost effective.

China hasn't nationalized all the **** we buy from them, but with something as crucial as electronics? I wouldn't put it past them.

Just about every company in China even US owned ones has a CCP committee in it making sure that the CCP's interests are met. They don't have to nationalize. They are more like a fascist country now than strict communist. They call it Socialism with Chinese characteristics. It is more like Mussolini than Mao.

Either way. Critical technology needs to be taken out of Taiwan ASAP. They also make all the zippers for the close you wear. Just think if China takes over Taiwan! No more zippers for you!

The CCP also maintains SOEs (State-Owned Enterprises) accounting for about 25 percent of GDP. SOEs operate in all industries, including manufacturing, mineral extraction, banking, and even hotels and restaurants. The CCP appoints the managers and supervisors of SOEs and directs their decision-making. In return, SOEs receive a number of benefits, such as state subsidies, easier access to capital from state-owned banks, and raw materials from state-owned mining companies. SOEs also get policy support, tax benefits, and a favorable regulatory framework. With the government providing these advantages, SOEs dominate strategic sectors such as energy, telecommunications, banking, and transportation.

Private companies of a certain size are required to maintain a party cell, a CCP committee responsible for implementing and maintaining party policies, adhering to political ideology, and upholding party discipline. Party committees influence decision-making and strategic planning, as well as the hiring, firing, and promoting of personnel.

Even foreign-owned companies and joint ventures and partnerships with foreign companies are required to maintain a party cell. Furthermore, the CCP maintains lists of sectors that are either closed to foreign companies or only open through a joint venture with a Chinese partner.

About the only thing that will stop the war on the Ukraine side is for NATO to commit to bringing them in only if they stop fighting and end by negotiation. That isn't in the cards so Viet Nam and Afghanistan (the Russian war) are going to pale as Russia slowly extinguishes the population of Ukraine.

Talks about bringing Ukraine into NATO is what started the war. The only way forward for Ukraine is to negotiate peace, promise not to enter NATO, and give up the land they have already lost.

It sucks. It is a horrible situation for Ukraine. But it will only get worse for them if they continue down this path.

I read this week that the Ukrainian government is now trying to extradite Ukrainian men out of Poland to conscript them into the war. This path is more and more death for their young generation. Foreign NGOs don't care. They are already talking about making a lot of money off the land they are buying up now. They will bring immigrants from around the world to rebuild and produce. The threat to Ukraine has become existential from both sides.

Yeah. No $h!t. I heard this from multiple sources the day of the invasion.

This should remind everyone about how the covid issue went.

Poland is pulling out from military support of Ukraine. Describes them as a drowning man pulling down others into the water. It is a rational view but Poland had been one of the most staunch supporters, which was also understandable based on their history. A bit surprised though.

Shows that Russia is more or less content with the land bridge extending from Donbas to Crimea. They are playing defense and it looks very sustainable.

Either Russia can't or doesn't want to project power that far off their borders, but did want strategic depth and ability to supply Crimea over land. Kind of what I was saying at the start of the whole thing.

Sounds like Poland is thinking the same thing with what their leaders have said recently.

One Euro says Enough
"Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has reasserted his nation’s sovereignty, standing up to “the Soros empire, the Brussels bureaucrats and the Democrats in America.”

“This autumn, Hungary’s opponents are expected to come forward to make their demands simultaneously,” Orbán stated in an October 3 speech in Budapest. “What the Soros empire, the Brussels bureaucrats and the Democrats in America want from us is what we cannot — and I think do not want to — give them.”

The Biden administration “will continue to want us involved in the war: to supply arms, and to give more money to Ukraine, or at least to allow Brussels to give Ukraine our money,” he declared.
