Ukraine updates

Hugh Thompson was the warrant officer who was flying his helicopter over My Lai, saw the massacre, landed and ran out yelling, “Stop! Stop! What are you doing?”

His name is not well known enough in our history annals. All Americans owe him a debt of thanks, for salvaging our souls (because this was an army that would stop, when called out, and not shoot the halter). He should have statues and buildings named after him.

Sure, it happens with us, but we usually maintain good order and discipline. We’re probably the most professional military in the world. And in those rare cases when it does happen, we generally prosecute the offenders.

The Red Army, on the other hand, has been known, since their founding by Trotsky and Lenin, as a marauding band of rapists, murderers of civilians, and looters. They’re similar to pirates, but on land.
Trump pardoned and made a hero of the navy seal war criminal.

Yes. But…
If he was in the same circumstance today he would likely be demonized and treated like Snowden, Assange, or Chelsea Manning. There certainly would be no talk of a monument.

What a bizarre claim.
The only place where such atrocities are actually happening today is in Russian-occupied Ukraine, and there is nothing to restrain the Russian soldiers from their rapes and killings of citizens.

Nobody knows the truth as to who committed atrocities. Russia claims they were done by Ukraine to their own citizens. As many of the Ukrainian claims have already been proven to be lies, only a fool would be quick to attribute blame at this point.Look in the mirror and you’ll see one.

Yes. I agree. They do their best.

There is no Red Army in existence today, and most armies in history are guilty of your whole list. It isn't a unique thing. US restraint is what is unique.

I totally agree. I have listened to a long description of the whole situation. There were levels of failures and circumstances that led to the masscre. Hugh Thompson is a real hero. His story should be more well known.

Well, the Ukrainian army shot prisoners in the knee caps and left them to die. This was discussed by a Ukrainian official. So we know it wasn't a hoax. I have no doubt Russia is also guilty. War is the worst part of human nature.

The raping and shootings of civilians are just further examples of how unprofessional and poorly led the Russian army is. This is a continuing trend observed since the invasion began.

A. War is hell.
B. Atrocities by troops are one thing. Systematic atrocities are different. Bombing hospitals is a Russia thing, sadly. 72 hospitals/clinics have been bombed.
C. A part of me thinks a war crime as you describe is different if you are defending your country than if you are invading a country.

This is f'n scary:

What I learned from the video:

- "Khohol" is a derogatory slang term for Ukrainian
- They'd like to blast the crap out of Ukraine and don't care if they ruin the place they want to conquer.
- They think Ukrainians are Nazis.
- They question the right of Ukraine to exist as a nation -- they sound like the sort who question the right of Israel to exist as a nation, not the sort of folks you'd invite over to a dinner party...

The Russian/QAnon conspiracy theory that Putin is saving the Ukrainians from their neo-nazi leadership. I'm not saying that the Ukrainians are saints or that there are no new nazis in their ranks. I'm saying that the government is not led by a neo nazi group or leaders. They have spread this misinformation and it was embraced by the fringes like our former poster here - AC.

MIDDLE EAST GRAIN SHORTAGE AND HUNGER CAUSED/EXACERBATED BY PUTIN'S WAR

Until the war, Ukraine exported massive amounts of grain, and so did Russia. A number of Middle Eastern countries, in particular, have been dependent on Ukrainian and Russian grain exports. Both have been curtailed dramatically, if not cut off outright, since Putin invaded a neighboring sovereign, independent nation. This is a huge food insecurity issue for the Near East. Vlad's war may end up starving millions in the Near East, and elsewhere. Hopefully Canada and the US can help make up the shortfall.

Country...........% Wheat Coming from Ukraine and/or Russia

Turkey.............76%
Egypt..............85%
Lebanon..........96%
Tunisia............80%

Other big importers from Russia + Ukraine:

Syria
Iraq
Yemen
Bangladesh
Indonesia
Nigeria
and more...

We are not helping the misinformation cycle:

Tucker can ask these questions, and he should always be allowed to ask these, and any other, questions. I'm glad there are press members who push the envelope. It's called a free press.

His issue is that if he goes a little too far off the deep end with outlandish theories, people will start viewing him as some sort of kook and his ratings could decline.

It’s a free country. You can ask those questions. And you can be ridiculed as a fool when objective evidence shows you to be wrong.
Want to be an iconoclast? Great! Support your claims and arguments in a convincing manner. The burden of proof is upon the counter claimers.

Tucker played it smarter than that. He never claimed any of those things as fact (as far as I know). Rather, he merely posed them as questions. So if the answer to his questions turns out to be "no", then he was not wrong about anything. Rather, he was merely inquiring. It's a commonly used trick.

Still, you have to have reasons for wondering those things, to avoid sounding like Holocaust deniers do, or those that think 911 was an “inside job”.
What are the reasons for asking those questions? Why would someone suspect that Ukraine executed its own citizens? Let’s guess-
1. Ukraine is corrupt to being psychopathic and sees an opportunity for propaganda gains from a false flag operation. Ok, then, is this in character with anything else they have done (like Putin’s bombings blamed on Chechens)?
2. Russia would never do such a thing, and if they did (due to rogue soldiers), they would support an honest and open investigation. Does that seem to be in character, considering all that Putin has done (Chechen false flag, support of Assad chemical weapons, poisoning domestic and foreign, shooting down a 777)?
3. You really, really don’t want to blame Russia.

Occam’s Razor leads to thinking such claims raise more questions about the questioner than about the crimes.

Shutting down questioners--even when they're asking some rather loopy questions--is an illiberal act. Not a very Western thing to do.

An appropriate response if you don't like it, is to answer the questions, ask counter-questions on a different media forum, or state facts on a different media forum to counter him.

If seemingly nutty (at the time) questions and questioners had been effectively shut down, we never would have gotten to the facts of Hunter Biden's laptop. That's one "loopy conspiracy" that turned out to be true.

Those who ridiculed the questioning about the laptop now have much egg on their faces.

It's a supposition that this would be his conversation tonight. This hasn't taken place yet.
