The Media Industry

Here, Glenn Greenwald takes a crack at how fake new is spread
He gives 4 examples from this past week how how news people got false or fake new to go viral using Twitter
Never walking it back, of course, or only doing so meekly

"There is ample talk, particularly of late, about the threats posed by social media to democracy and political discourse. Yet one of the primary ways that democracy is degraded by platforms such as Facebook and Twitter is, for obvious reasons, typically ignored in such discussions: the way they are used by American journalists to endorse factually false claims that quickly spread and become viral, entrenched into narratives, and thus can never be adequately corrected.

The design of Twitter, where many political journalists spend their time, is in large part responsible for this damage. Its space constraints mean that tweeted headlines or tiny summaries of reporting are often assumed to be true with no critical analysis of their accuracy, and are easily spread. Claims from journalists that people want to believe are shared like wildfire, while less popular, subsequent corrections or nuanced debunking are easily ignored. Whatever one’s views are on the actual impact of Twitter Russian bots, surely the propensity of journalistic falsehoods to spread far and wide is at least as significant.

Just in the last week alone, there have been four major factually false claims that have gone viral because journalists on Twitter endorsed and spread them: three about the controversy involving Donna Brazile and the DNC, and one about documents and emails published by WikiLeaks during the 2016 campaign. It’s well worth examining them, both to document what the actual truth is as well as to understand how often and easily this online journalistic misleading occurs:..."

5 broken ribs
Was "tackled from behind and attacked" by his Democrat-voting neighbor while mowing the lawn. The neighbor is an anesthesiologist
Yet somehow this is not even the most unusual story of the weekend

Pretty wild that this is the 2nd attempt on Paul's life within a year
Doesnt seem like the most likely target, does he?
Will the media accept any blame for creating this environment?
I doubt they will bring it up since that would require some introspection

ps -- Since the attacker was a doctor, did his oath require him to administer first aid at same time? In this case, the hypocritical oath

The attacker's attorney claims the "dispute" had nothing to do with politics but over something most people would consider a "trivial matter".

Found this interesting:
Boucher and Paul have been neighbors for 17 years and worked together when they were both practicing physicians, Baker said Monday.

Hahahahahahahaha, just a neighborly squabble. Now that's funny, I would love to have heard the verbal exchange - but only because I'm a incurable nosey so and so.

Maybe Boucher is still pissed at Paul for stealing his lunch out of the staff refrigerator?

I like to assume Paul stole his stapler.

I would hope to see some day which of these 'journalists' took money from GPS Fusion
Right now, GPSF is fighting release of their bank records

We haven't even discussed the insanity in which we live where it's OK to tackle someone while they're mowing their lawn. For any reason. Partisan issues or not. What is wrong with people...

A Senator no less. Setting a pretty dangerous example that one can physically assault (causing serious damage) their Congressperson of choice and get charged with a misdemeanor.

The story is all over MSM on both sides. Politically charged nutjobs are surely taking notice of the "no big deal" presentation and slap on the wrist charges.

You're intimating that just this physician (Boucher) thought it OK to tackle Paul, right? I'm not sure any civil person thinks this behavior was acceptable. Our collective civility seems to be deteriorating by the day.

The attempt to make this political or insert oneself into this neighbor squabble doesn't contribute positively to our civility.

I thought about this while mowing today

Pleural effusion = "excess fluid that accumulates in the pleural cavity, the fluid-filled space that surrounds the lungs. This excess can impair breathing by limiting the expansion of the lungs."

Dems and their media partners have created a country where we can no longer turn our backs on our neighbors

"The Bowling Green, Ky. neighbor who allegedly sucker attack Sen. Rand Paul last weekend, causing six broken ribs, was aggressively anti-Trump and anti-GOP in his social media, calling for the impeachment of the president and urging Russia investigator Robert Mueller to “fry Trump’s gonads.”...."

Good effort on trying to keep the political angle alive when all the quotes from the assailant's lawyer and neighbors have stated the issue wasn't related to politics.

I think it's more said about the Liberal character that they attract these kind of people. They are bullies that try to talk over everyone and silence them. If that doesn't work they get physical. I'm sure you can give a couple of examples on the Conservative side, but realistically speaking it's like 1 to every 100 aggressive Liberals. No one can deny these.
