TEXAS-OU game thread 2023

Sanders should not have played today. Did you see an important block where he could not put weight on that leg / ankle late in the game and fully block his man?

Understand the decoy effect, but how much did his play compromise the SOMETMES struggling O today on important plays?

This kind of game shows just how hard it is to do stuff like make the playoffs, let alone win a national championship.

One off day or faulty game plan can be all it takes to blow it all up. We almost, almost overcame a lot of suboptimal play calls and bad reads to win an ugly one.

I think we win this game in December: odds are we don't have nearly as many errors.

I did a three-year stint in Oklahoma thanks to the US Air Force. It actually was a pretty good assignment except for some of the locals. Most were actually OK and cared more for their family and crops than OU Football.

We tend to eat each other alive on days like this, and I hate that. Someone posted earlier and I agree, I wish the sporting fortunes of teenagers didn't affect me the way it does, win or lose.

I have a buddy who is currently in Jerusalem, and I have no idea how he is. Oh well, beat Cougar High.

We are living sports BS in our bubble. Your friend is in harm's way. I wont get political, but I hope he escapes or whatever insures his safety.

Championship teams manage to win on “off” days. They got them swim position to do so in spite of the way they played, but couldn’t close it out. Not a championship caliber team yet, but maybe they can get there. They have to win out and do it in style with a lot of blowouts along he way and no more close games if/until Big 12 championship game.

This game further cements my impression that this year’s team is like 2008. We lost to TT in 2008 due to 2 key injuries (Orapko and Quan). If we win all of remaining regular season games this year, people are going point to the injuries as being a major factor in the loss.

Bama-Wyoming-Kansas-OU will likely be the toughest teams we play and we played them in 4 out of 5 weeks. BYU, TCU, KSU, TT appear to be on the same level as Baylor.

I would not describe an offense that had over 500 yards as “struggling”.

I would describe a defense that allowed length of the field scoring drives at end of half and game in 1:15 and 1.50 as “struggling”.

I’m eager to hear other opinions with respect to the defensive game plan. You can’t let Gabriel sit back there and pick receivers, or takeoff and run for 15 yards. Particularly at the end of the game, the three-man rush was inexplicable.

What happens if Texas-OU-KU finish in 1st place with one loss each? Do we get screwed like in 2008 where OU-KU play for the CC?

Multiple-Team Ties

1. Head-to-head
2. Record against the next highest placed common opponent in the standings
3. Win percentage against all common conference opponents (must be common among all teams involved in the tie).
4. Combined win percentage in conference games of conference opponents (ie, strength of conference schedule).
5. Total number of wins in a 12-game season. The following conditions will apply to the calculation of the total number of wins:
6. Highest ranking by SportSource Analytics (team Rating Score metric) following the last weekend of regular-season games.
7. Coin toss

Basically, there's no route by which we lose to only OU, OU qualifies for the CCG, and we're left out. I doubt KU would pass us in tiebreaker #6.

True - we have the Bama win on the road that separates us from KU. Also we had a big score differential over KU. Finally, I confirmed KU does indeed play OU at home.

Creek and FW are right. It comes down to December. I am disappointed, but Texas has another shot.

Texas wins out and it's Jerry World Time. Almost assuredly against OU.

Being a Realist, vs a Sunshine Pumper. Get this Done.
I think there is a scenario where the conference could have 3 one loss teams and that would be Texas, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.

We don't play West Virginia but Oklahoma does. If WV beats OU and loses another conference game and then all three teams wins all other conference games. We will have three one loss teams in the conference.

In that scenario, we would not qualify since OU beat us. At least that's what I think.

What about #4? What if OU and KU play tougher conference schedule?

Have you watched KSU this year? We have TCU there. tceh could be trouble and we've never played BYU well.

That sounds right, if WVa beats OU, we are odd man out in a three way tie.

So did I, utahorn. I had three years at Vance AFB (Enid) as a T-38 Instructor Pilot. It was a great assignment. Terrific flying. The base/city relationship was excellent. I found only three things to gripe about:
(1) Spring weather - but that comes with the territory when you reside in the heart of Tornado Alley
(2) I don't know what the state government spends their money on in Oklahoma, but I know what they don't spend it on - highways were (and still are) awful
(3) Sooner fans - some of them were totally obnoxious

Tough loss. Defense had a sub par day but I thought when we went up by fg with 1:17 left they would come thru. Didn’t happen. Ewers had a couple of turnovers early but after that played incredible and that’s with a lot of defenders in his face. I still love this team. Best one we have had in over a decade in many ways. If we had to lose to ou I would take it now vs losing in big 12 championship game. Now we have the chip on our shoulder. Let’s just take care of business and get to that game. Program is finally on the right track. Go horns!

Surely Bama doesn’t jump us, right? Louisville might. I guess it doesn’t matter as long as we win out and win the rematch.

Lots of football to play and none of the remaining 6 teams on our schedule are as good as 4/6 we have already played.

I will not miss the Big 12. I understand calls go this way and that but back to back mugging that was uncalled and called at the end pass interference at the end was something that is hard to swallow. Last year our even non Bama Sec fans made fun of Bama for the way they won after a horrible call in Austin. This year all calls went against Texas in Dallas. Congrats to OU but they were aided by at least three head-scratcher calls. if not for reviews there were a few others. We still had every chance to win but the penalties called were embarrassing in a day of replay. someone should be fired in black and white.
