TEXAS-OU game thread 2023

OU is for real. I worry what this loss does to us.

What teams worry you moving forward? Texas will be favored by double digits in their remaining games and there is zero reason not to expect a rematch.

Good grief. Y’all act like this was another typical loss to Maryland or Tech. OU may end up being ranked #1 by the end of the regular season

we played poorly. We were out-coached. Sark is horrible at red-zone offense. Our vaunted D played like we were back in the mackovic years. How do you allow IN BOTH HALVES and team to drive the length of the field in under 2 minutes with no TOs?
Disagree on Sark. Think he's the only reason we're even in the game. Fake punt, we go 3 of 4 on 4th dow. Ewers hits 18 passes in a row and 32 of 38. There's a reason Ewers does that and a lot of it is Sark's pre-snap coaching. The D got 1 sack for minus 1 yard. Couldn't make the critical stops when it mattered most. Gave up 200 yds on the ground. This loss is on them. The got zero pressure all game. Just none. Were our D ends even on the field? They had zero impact on the game. Also dropped a sure int in the end zone that gave up 3.

Have you watched KSU this year? We have TCU there. tceh could be trouble and we've never played BYU well.

I don't give two shits what Vegas says. The 6.5 they gave us today meant nothing.

I think you’re correct. If you’d have told me we would score 30 points, I’d have definitely said we’d win easily. D looked human for the first time this season.

Three turnovers and that crappy 2 minute "prevent" defense in both the first and second half which gave up 10 points is what lost this game. Otherwise we outplayed them and in a rematch with that garbage cleaned up we win going away.

if you had told me before the game that Ewers would throw over 300, Brooks run over 100, a receiver would have over 100, we would have 527 yards of offense and have the ball 32.11. I would have guaranteed a win. I would have been wrong.

1. Reduce turnovers
2. Reduce penalties
3. Punch it in from the friggin' 1.
4. Defense holds for a whopping 1:17

Fix any one of these and we win. Fix them all and we win by 20+.

The silver lining: There's a good chance we meet again in the Big 12 Championship Game, and an equally good chance at least one of these issues is fixed by then.

Until the final drive, Gabriel did not pass well. Check the QB rating. Ewers was 31-37 for 350. Just threw 2 Ints in first 5 passes. It was lack of tackling and pressure. Jaylen Ford looked like a Zombie. No play makers on D besides Hill maybe. Despite being out played and coached in key spots, Texas still fought back and the offense did what it needed. Goal line not withstanding. OU was better today.

I don’t agree Gabriel didn’t do well. He sure didn’t do poorly. He did well enough to win, especially before half and end of game drive.

With an advantage at virtually every position group, they were the more physical team. Much more physical. I think that in the end, that’s why we lost. That’s also why I would be concerned if we play them again. So I do believe that Venerables out-coached Sarkisian.

Beyond the 1st-and-goal from the 1 ****** playcalling, the other thing that really got us out of being able to control our destiny was taking the sack on 1st and 10 from their 35 and the timeout. From that moment on, Sark was going to play for the FG and didn't care how little time elapsed from the clock.

To that moment in the drive, we had three 2nd-down conversions and were easily moving the ball. If we continue moving it for just one more first down, the game's over. We might as well be kicking the FG to win 30-27 with time expiring. But no.

Agreed. Clock management especially with OU having no timeouts

Gabriel accounted for over half of their rushing yards. Texas gave them 7 on the opening turnover. Running into kicker gave them 3 more ( can’t give extra downs when you are struggling defensively) dropped int in end zone gave them 3 more ( although they dropped a sure td later). Failing to get a td from inside the one is not acceptable anytime when you have 4 downs. When you got to their 40 with 3 minutes left you should have been running Brooks on the stretch play instead of taking a sack on first down. They were having trouble stopping him on those plays. Oh well. Got to regroup. Ou will be in top five next week and we will fall to ten or eleven.

Yep. There were things I could see happening today, but Texas D line playing awful and the want to not being there was not one of them

It is what it is, we lost, but did anyone else think Worthy went down too soon instead of extending on the 4th and goal play?
Maybe, but why not run that play with a bigger receiver, or with a tight end? And why did we even get to fourth on the one? Goal line play selection is the reason. Ain’t the first time.
No need to talk of playoffs when you let a team beat you with a 75 yard drive with 117 minutes left. Campions do what Texas did on the drive that took the score to 30-27. Champions don ‘t give up the crown to the real champion of the day…your biggest rival. And champion caliber teams don’t win the award for most penalties and turnovers. Today the top 10 team was OU, not Texas.Texas can go home and be the darlings of Austin. Today they were out coached and out played by a team that wanted it more. Just hate losing a street fight to okies.

Someone drugged Jaylen Ford. My eyes can’t believe what I saw from him. Was running in cement and just didn’t even attempt tackles at times. Dumb struck

Which is it? You agree we have a chance, like I said? Or we don’t have a chance if we win out?
you said "In that case, I hope OU goes undefeated and ranked top 3 when we meet again. That will be our only chance at playoffs."

You said that our only chance is to win out AND OU being top 3. And my point was I don't give a flying f@@k what OU does. We win out and I think we have a better than 50% chance to be in the playoffs. 12-1 conference champions will have a strong case for CFP.

Have you watched KSU
Yes, I have.
A really bad Okie state team just beat the s*** out of them.
This game was so much deja vu to last year's Bama game.
We didn't play great but we played good enough to win.
He had the game one with 75 seconds left.
Need one more stop..
And we let him march ride down the field.
I have a feeling. We'll meet again.

Thanks for agreeing with me that we have a chance :hookem:

My takeaway is OU spent more time analyzing our weaknesses and exploited them. They also had the motivation of last year’s 49-0 loss to us. The real signal we were not going to win was the inability of our O line to open a hole to score from the okie 1 yard line on 4 tries. Our DBs also had an off day, to put it nicely. We had some good moments, but not enough.
