TEXAS-KSU Game Thread 2023

The pass interference no-call against us was egregious. But, and I hate to say anything positive about OU, the PI no-call in the end zone when their receiver was being mugged was even worse.

The second INT was horrible. You cannot throw where there isn't a receiver.
I think the big part of the problem is Murphy is too often just throwing to the spot or area where he expects the receiver to be based on the play without actually reading the defense or seeing what is unfolding in front of him. That suggests he is not seeing the field properly and he may not until he gets enough experience that the game slows down for him.

We do if we both win out.
My post was in response to his post about OSU would have two conference losses after we beat them.

I would rather play OSU on the championship game than any other team we have already played. I think it looks better to play as many different teams as you can. Plus, they will be 10 - 2 if we play them on Arlington. That can't hurt our SoS.

Yes, two conference losses if we beat them in the championship game.
We don't play them in the regular season.

Hard to argue any of this but he is also making his 2nd start. I have noted before that because we dont have the "killer instinct", we are getting zero game experience for the qb's. Mack made the same mistake through the 2000's. We have to give these guys real game experience and not just the V formation. They practice hard, let them run the plays.

Bingo. Was waiting for someone to say that. He is relying on his arm and where the wr shiuld be. He simply isn't nuanced enough to let the play develop and hasn't learned his checkdowns.

Hopefully he will learn from the picks to make smarter throws. Essentially he needs to learn to "slow the game down". All that comes with experience.

First half D was awesome. For some reason in the 2nd half, apparently we went to the prevent d and as expected, got gang raped! I missed part of the 2nd half but was getting texts about the melt down. Malik is basically a freshman but after 1.5 yrs in the system, I was hoping for more skills in reading the D. Well, there is always next week. Yes it was a win. I noticed on the punts earlier that we were very susceptible to a block. I think today we were also ripe for a fake the punt against us as well. This is all about coaching. Finish what you are supposed to do and then go get the tackle.

Sark was unapologetic about going for it on 4th down, vs kicking a FG, in the post game interview. Referenced the Baxter run for a TD, but that's an apples to oranges 4th down conversion attempt, in my book. His tone seemed like he was a little indignant at the question.

don't doubt that at all that Sark seemed miffed about his gamble. He is hard headed.
I wish he had input from other coaches...."no coach let's take the points"

I do like Sark, and his pressers are excellent. He likes to say that we haven’t played our best game yet. To these eyes, we have not improved since the game in Tuscaloosa. In fact, we may have gone in the other direction.

looks very much like we face OK STATE in the CCG. That will be tough.
HATE OK STATE.
Yes I am counting my chickens before they hatch.

We know the coaching advantage will go to OSU in that one. Let’s hope our talent advantage overcomes it.
Last year it looked like Gundy had Fark’s script.

I agree Duke. We played our best football in Tuscaloosa and we have regressed since then.
A well coached football team improves over the course of a year.

Defense lacks a killer instinct. They are soft. They damned near let KSU steal this one.

When you are up by 20 nearing the 4th quarter, the game should NEVER be an OT sweat.

Never?? I agree that Coach K’s prevent D scheme is a failure—allowing ou and ksu to come all the way back in the last minute. But I must admit that Malik’s turnovers deep in our territory led to ksu coming all the way back today.

I don’t think K’s D scheme is championship defense. Soft coverage and not bringing pressure with 4, 5, or 6 rushing failed against ou in the last minute and it failed twice on the last 2 minutes today.
He brings 3 way too often while some average qb sits back waiting for a receiver to come open—and one or two eventually will.

So many things had to line up for this game to be close:
- 2 bad INT’s and some poor throws to open receivers by MM
- OL motion penalties
- blocked punt
- Brooke’s fumble
- Sark not going for 3 points
- missed PI

Yet the team won, but literally nearly everything had to go south to make it so close. Rather remarkable in my opinion.
