TEXAS-KSU Game Thread 2023

To me, the biggest take away continues to be Sarkisian’s stubbornness, and not making decisions that help his team. Up 21-0 in Houston, then 17-0 today, he doesn’t understand the concept of taking points when you can, needing to realize that an onslaught is more than likely. Has he not learned from the ebb-and flow of so many of Texas’s games? Unfortunately, he has not.

Murphy, while he has moments of excellence, seems to have long periods of mental and physical lapses. Yes, that’s predictable for a second game starter. But the int late in the game showed me that he lacks enough presence to understand where he is on the field, and where they are in the game. So to me, right now, he’s a net liability.

If Ewers cannot go next Saturday, I would definitely scheme some series for Manning. My gut feel is that his pedegree will be such that he has a better understanding of these critical situations, and that sometimes not making a mistake is more important than not making a first down.

i’ll take the win. But it was very very lucky. And as I said above, Kleiman did us a favor by not going for the field goal.

Just as bad and any mistake today were the three false starts I believe by 56. They were killers .
Jones out may have been worse than Quinn out. Williams probably cost Texas at least a TD. How fing difficult is it stay put until the ball is snapped? Damn, my team never had that penalty my whole time in MIDDLE SCHOOL.

KSU had 29 rushing attempts resulting in 33 total yards. If our secondary ever catches up to that, look out.
I don't think the secondary can be successful with the game plan we have. We have 3 guys deeper than any crossing route so the other team is playing 11 on 8 or 9. It's more scheme related than anything else. When we play press coverage and pressure the QB we play pretty well.

I have thought the same things but my concern comes from the fact that he is a clear third string to Murphy & Ewers as evidenced by playing time.

we still haven’t seen him and there was certainly a series or two at the end of BYU where we could have. He can get playing time in what…. Four games without losing his shirt?

how far behind in development is he? Reading between the lines with the staff apparently quite a drop off?
Idk
Certainly he can tell the difference between burnt orange an and some kind of ugly white and purple.

We had 5 false starts I believe. 5 at home. We need to get healty. Jones, Catalon, and after next week Quinn.

All I can say is Texas just beat a red hot KST team with a backup QB. Happy to have Quinn back soon, but they didn't lose their position.

Also, ATM lost so it's a good day so far.

Still, Murphy is not going to cut it at qb at this level. He played a qtr or so at Houston, the entire game vs byu and now today. He had 2 weeks to take reps with the #1s.

He went so far backwards today it's scary. Even more scary is with ewers coming back, manning is left out in the cold. He should have been in early 4th qtr. No telling what's going through his & his dad's mind right now

The defense played awesome until sark pulled that 4th down nonsense. Give your great D the points to protect, sark. It's as though you have no faith in them

To say he isn't going to cut it is unfair. What's the sample size ? 2 games and a handfull of meaningless hand offs previously ?.

Nothing is going through Manning's mind. He and his family knew he wasn't playing this year unless there was a complete qb collapse. Go back to all my notes during his recruitment.

I wonder if we're compensating for lack of talent back there? We (they) may have overestimated Watts abilities.

He passes the ball too low and scares me on those quick ones. 2x the DE blocked it with his facemask. MM is 6'5" but his release point is too low I guess.

I didnt watch his feet today, but I suspect some of his poor throws were due to bad footwork.

But when we play press we actually do pretty good. We've given up a few big plays but prevent just guarantees a TD for the opponent. Seen it so many times. Same thing against OU. I'd rather take a chance then to just give it to them uncontested. drives me nuts.

Second start or not, two turnovers a game is not going to cut it. And again, he’s not understanding that sometimes not getting a first down is a much better than throwing a devastating pick.

Many felt that going into this game the key would be whether or not Murphy was a liability.

It's like teams come into the game hoping to run the football then when they can't they start throwing it all over the place and they start ripping up the Texas defense.

At the end of the day, it was a heart-stopping infuriatingly ugly win.

Bring on the Frogs.

Not surprisingly, Texas once again played on OL who never once held and a secondary who could pass for WWE. The late hit called on Ryan was up to this crew’s standards. I have never seen two major penalties not offset. Somehow, the F troop refs enforced only the dubious late hit. The deep side judges see nothing, Sgt. Schult.

Need to go back and check stats at end of 3rd. Defense played great with awesome coverage and not sure what changed. (Besides 3 sudden changes) K State was supposed to be one of best run offenses in the country and we stomped it. I couldn’t believe our coverage either. Then Howard just had time even with good pressure and the lanes were kept closed so his legs were never a threat. Just mobility in buying time.

I was curious about that not offsetting as well. And there were three text book PI/holding calls on just worthy. The one on corner route he was held for half the route and then deep one was textbook interference. Turnovers are what made this game close, but not getting those calls prevented two scores for Texas

Agree we need to see Arch get some play. No reason not to since there are only a few games left. Have already seen bumper stickers about ewers…
HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW

I think they said the out of bounds hit was a dead ball personal foul. It was still a BS call.

They enforced both because the phantom hit was said to be after the play do dead ball foul which resulted in a net five yards and first down for ksu. Worthy getting wrapped up before the ball got there was the worst, but him being held. lol the way down the field so he couldn’t get to his break to the corner of the end zone was just as bad. I’m not sure Cook wasn’t held on Murphy’s first interception. It’s amazing we get any pass rush at any time given that anything our opponents o-line does to stop our d-line is legal.
