TEXAS-IOWA STATE Game Thread

If our run game can do that to ISU defense, I like our chances. That’s a good defense. And our run D was on point. The third down passing it has to be fixed. Has to be. But defense made some big time plays that have been lacking this year. Two crucial turnovers. Gotta get 6 off a blocked punt.

I fully expected a close game with Iowa st. They have now lost 4 conf games by a total of 14 points. They play tough. We coming off a big blowout against our rival you would expect to be a little flat. The betting line on this game was a joke. We probably lose this game last year. This team battles and is coming together. Winning close games in the 4th quarter builds character and confidence. Big game coming up against ok. St. We have a legitimate chance of winning the big 12.

Ugly win.
Ewers looked pedestrian. (Cards should starts :) )
Refs missed about 3 PI/Holding calls in a row.
But there were about as many mistakes and missed opportunities on both sides.
Our D causing 2 turnovers was huge.
And thank God for our RB room.
O-line coming of age.
I'll take an ugly W but the passing game better tighten up.

We have now equaled last seasons win total. :)

Quinn looked out of sorts this game. Those drops and bad routes by Cain affected his confidence! The rest of the team picked him up. He’s got to shake it off. OSU in Stillwater next week! Come on Quinn you got this!
Really?
You blame Ewers performance on Cain?
Yes, Cain dropped one.
But Ewers was off early and often.
Overthrowing mostly.
Not to mention throwing the ball in the dirt backwards almost committing a turnover.
His head was somewhere else.
And you noticed Sark went almost strictly run later.
Ewers had a bad game.
And that's ok because we won.
I'm sure he will get back on track.
But it wasn't Cains fault.

Matt Campbell:
ON HUNTER DEKKERS’ FUMBLE AND THE REVIEW
“Obviously, nobody knows and that’s the problem. The question is, man, is he down? Is it targeting? They said they were only reviewing the targeting. The fact of the matter, it looked like his knee was down. But again, I’m sure it’s like everything else — we’ll get no clarification on it.”

The camera work was first class. Cook’s elbow knocked the ball out of his control just before his knee was down. That’s what the tape showed. Watch it. Even the douchebags in the tv announcers booth ultimately admitted they were wrong and that:

1. it was a fumble; and
2. there was no targeting

Same thing happened to us in the Bama game.

The main commentator was typical ABC idiot. RG III did pretty well IMO - I like his QB-centric analysis. My main litmus test of announcers is - do they avoid saying stupid things? For example the main announcer kept confusing QE and the ISU QB.

You'll get your clarification when you get back to Ames and watch the tape.

This is one of those put it in the win column and just move on games. Last year they lose it and we navel gaze all week about the missed opportunities. Texas farted around for a quarter and a half to start the game, made a ton of mistakes when they had a chance to get some separation, then let Iowa State convert every freaking third down on the last few drives and yet the Horns still pulled out a win. Winning ugly is just fine as long as that phrase starts with the winning part.

Did not like the 3rd down Defense, but it was good to finally win a close game. It showed character to score in the 4th quarter to win. That would not have happened in 21.

We scored late twice last year to give ourselves a chance, OU, KU.

What never happened last year was our opponents self destructing late in the 4th to help us win. The Hutchinson drop never happened last year.

We can feel good about a lot of things, but what this team has a bit of more compared to last year is good fortune.

People don’t care to critically analyze and understand what really happens. ISU hurt themselves quite a bit today. It was a disappointing effort, but it was a critical win. Very critical and that can’t be understated.
