Texas High School Football

SN,

That's what it's always been called. It brings what will become the drinking water from north of Beaumont (Pine Island Bayou) through a series of canals to MidCounty. It was too shallow to swim in (5-7 ft) and too narrow 10-12 ft to enjoy.

It separates the two towns from 1st Street to 14th. At 8th, the dividing line is one block east, one block South to Nome-Port Neches Hwy. Thus my original point that "less than 5 miles" would get you over to "n road", where NOBODY ever drove.

Maybe that "fresh water" is what's wrong with me.

Waller built a pretty nice stadium and avoided public scrutiny
I’ve been there, it’s a nice little facility.

I took this pic of the stadium 10 years ago. It was during a marching band festival. (Obviously.)

Somebody's mom snagged a prime seat early in the day.

Growing up playing in the SE quadrant of the State, I recall playing in many mud-bowls. It was kind of fun. The games would go on through relentless gully washers. Lightning was the only thing that could stop us.

I remember having a 45 minute "tornado" break at South Park. It was raining so hard that when we punted, we asked the HC what to do because we couldn't see more than 10-15 yards. His response, "if we can't see it, they can't see it; run 20 yards down field, stop and listen for the thud, then run that direction."

We wound up with two footballs on the field about 30 yards apart. Solution? Officials couldn't see it either, so they called for a re-kick.
