Texas High School Football

They are playing at Katy? I thought they should play at NRG, but Northshore won't have that many people, which should make the Alamo Dome more appealing for a climate controlled stadium.

Saturday forecast is 75% chance of rain in Katy.
Westlake might benefit from a weather equalizer. And I will altogether appreciate Dion’s in-person dispatches.

North Crowley is a rising power in the DFW area. I was surprised that none of Aledo, Desoto or Duncanville advanced to the finals this year. Was happy to see Westlake back. I don’t know much about Vandergriff, but assume they are a program on the rise? For you Austin area guys in the know?

Bishop,

I had never seen Vandegriff play before. I was very impressed with their composure, discipline, and execution. Play calling was extraordinary. I'm not sure about their talent level, but they did have some size and some speed. They remind me of Gary Joseph's teams of years past, as well as Calallan, Carthage, any team coached by Doug Etheridge or Gene Mayfield. Everyone has a job, and if they do that job, their team wins.

More relevant now to this thread is Schoebel’s restaurant, because two Schoebel brothers are the coaches, and a Schoebel kid is the high school QB. Those brothers played at TCU and then in the NFL.

By far you would know better; I was quoting what (I thought) Craig Way said on the radio. We could look it up with google, or I’m sure that information is displayed on the walls of the restaurant.

I’m working off an old, fading memory

Everyone loved that restaurant, and I don’t want to discourage anyone from going there, but I have never eaten there that didn’t get sick, and that goes back about 40 years.

Great family. Hope Columbus pulls it off.

Vandegrift is a younger high school in Leander ISD, opened in 2009. They've had the same HC for all 15 years, which has probably helped their success a lot. They made the state championship game two years ago, but lost to DeSoto.

My sister lives in Columbus so I have eaten at Schobel's many times and never had this experience. Their breakfast buffet is my favorite.

Did Edna's super star Steve Williams show up for the game?

My BIL calls the games for KULM radio broadcasts of the game, I will check with him about Steve Williams.

Thanks Sabre. Carthage is playing LaVega from my centex area in the 4A finals. That one should be a good one. LaVega has a QB who reminds me of Vince and a great RB. Should be a great matchup.

Thanks guy4321 for the background. Did not know they were LSD area.

BIL reports he does not remember calling his name so perhaps he was hurt? He says their best player last Friday was Harris.

Phil.

He's an alum, not a player, and I would think their most famous alum. Went to NTSU, blew out a knee, went to Paul Bosch to become "Stunning Steve" and later to WWF to be Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Woodville is making it's first ever appearance in the State Championship game. I am told that the HC is Brian Robison's younger brother.

Vandergriff is in LISD, but is located in the Four corners area, 2222 and 620, and pulls from Steiner Ranch—practically Lake Travis area. It’s more upscale than Leander, with huge buy-in in band, orchestra, drill teams, academic competition, etc.

OK, well, that totally went over my head. :-)

That is a beautiful area so I can understand the draw to that area.
