Texas Georgia game thread #2. This time it's serious.

I'm 69 years old. My first memory of a Texas choke was 1961 vs TCU. I think we were 28 point favorites and lost 6-0 which cost us the National Championship.

Now here I am 63 years later and I'm wondering how many UT games I've seen where I really thought we should have won but didn't. And how many times have we actually come through in the biggest moment? In my mind, only 3 times. 1963 vs Navy; 1969 vs Ark and ND; and 2005 vs USC. I know I'm being kind of harsh. Because the Horns have brought me lots of great times. But why do I always enter into these big games expecting us to find a way to lose? And unfortunately, we usually do.

I know there were games where we weren't expected to win, but did. So I know we aren't a bunch of chokers. But in these big moments of national importance my sense is that we don't usually come through.
When Vince & Colt, and even Major had the ball with two minutes left, you just KNEW they would drive down the field and win the game.

Ewers doesn’t habe that “it” factor. Unfortunately.

You can’t be one dimensional against a defense the caliber of Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State, or perhaps Oregon. Ewers played a good game, but Ewers represents zero threat to run. Their completely unprepared back up quarterback was effective for one reason; he could run.

Sark has a fantastic talent on the bench that he could’ve used and didn’t. I don’t blame Ewers. He had a good game.

Again, it’s not difficult for a talented D to defend a team if they’re one dimensional. And with Quinn, against good defenses, we are one dimensional.
We weren’t one dimensional against a&m. They are a good team . Not a great one. But a good one.Michigan had a decent defense. We weren’t one dimensional..
Georgia has a great front 7. They dominated our O line. As good as Arch may be, he would not change our O line’s ability to block their front 7.

I met Richardson ONE time and still don't know who he is or what he does, BUT that is a ******** question, which would probably have won you a very expensive dinner from Sark if you had shoved the mic or pen up his ***.

0855,

I resemble you post, but would add the 1963 OU game as a winner. That was my first Texas game.
It was. I was there. 28-7. They were No 1, we were No 2. We've won a lot of games in my life. Brought me a lot of joy. But I've seen the debacles also, the games where we couldn't get out of our own way, either with TOs or penalties. Tonight was too effing familiar.

Sark:

“Too many missed opportunities in the high red.”

Well Steve, that’s because being one dimensional against a very good defense — when the field is condensed— won’t work.

IMHO, we “will” win a natty “this season”
if Sark begins strategically using an outstanding weapon he has sitting on the bench.

I'm not a Quin Ewers hater but he does seem to make some boneheaded plays at crucial moments. Also, I had a feeling the kicking game was going to cost us eventually.

I'm going to call ******** on this one. Aggy is a mediocre football team with a QB who can't hold Ewers jock. We scored 17 points, all in the first half. Zero in the second half and did our effing best to give that game away.
I agree with you about Arch's imprint on the game, hypothetical as it is.

And when you see it unfolding right in front of your eyes, yet again, the sunshine pumpers around here feel more comfortable criticizing us than telling the truth about the game.

And they say stupid **** like, SMH".

:whiteflag:

11 penalties for 94 yards.

3 turnovers

2 missed field goals

Lose by 3

Can’t do this against a top 10 team and expect to win. Ever.

Control the controllables.

Carry, I disagree. If you need evidence, just look at how we dominated Georgia in the first half. They couldn’t run… at all. How were they able to run the ball in the second half? Their dual threat quarterback, who is half the talent of an Arch Manning, made the difference.

With Manning at quarterback, the defense cannot pin their ears back, and they cannot sell out to stop the back. If they do, Arch will kill them.

Idk, when we’re good, we’re really really good. When we’re bad, we’re embarrassingly bad. It caught up to us today. We’re close but still lack the consistent coaching and play making to get to the top of the mountain. I guess some schools would be satisfied.

Unless they sack him. And then he will fumble so they can kick a FG right at the end of the half. Did you not watch the first Georgia game and see how ineffectual Arch was? Your infatuation with Arch is something to behold. I think he's going to be great for us next year. And I prefer a dual threat QB over a pocket passer. But come on. Get a grip.

Born, I’ve got a grip. Arch Manning had what, two plays in this game? Two. And we were totally ineffective in the red zone. Again.

I didn’t say “start” Manning. I said use him because he’s an excellent weapon.

You're cool.

You know, I think we were horrible in the run game because our OL is vastly overrated. Just like I think our "elite" defense is overrated. We earned our reputation by playing teams like UTSA, Kentucky, Fla (with no QB) and OU (also with no QB), not to mention a very average Michigan team. I'm just not as impressed with our teams' stats as guys like Herbstriet are. I've watched UGA's front 7 DOMINATE us. That tells me all I need to know about how great our OL is.

And oh by the way, we had zero sacks tonight.

Might as well use Arch in the red zone. The results probably wouldn’t be any worse.

I only have one thing to say!

FU Bert Auburn... you have ONE Job!

Worst Special Teams in Texas History!

We all knew it would beat us at some point!

It just happened!

And for all you people that say " he's just a kid"... FU!
HoffHorn,
Perhaps, you should become a sponsor before telling any of us to go and Fuc! ouselves. You have over 500 post. You would get more respect from most of us. The sponsor link is on the right side of this page.

Okay I think there was even talent. Difference was coaching. I think Sark becomes one of the greatest, but he is still a couple of years away.

That is sponsor level anger. Pony up Hoff.

Well, aggs were good enough to get into last week’s game in position to get to the SEC CCG had they won. That’s not chopped liver.

We had 2 sack/fumbles. Maybe they don’t count as sacks in the box score because of the fumbles?

We also had another sack (intentional grounding) with a BS roughing call to negate it.

It's possible. Sark isn't at the level of Smart but that can change. Look how long it took Smart to catch up to Saban

Why can't we get a good punter. Ours cant kick the ball 40 yards. On the season he averages 40.9 yds per punt which puts him 109th out of 125 D1 punters and last in the SEC. Effing pathetic.
What happened to that Aussie guy? Dickerson? He was kinda good. Maybe we could get him back.
