I don't know but I think they would just sit back and clog up the passing lanes while occasionally blitzing us silly. Georgia seems to love to blitz and they seem to be good at it. Georgia's main weakness is a very pedestrian offense. If they run into a team that has a solid defense and can put up more than 17 or 20, I think they are done.I found the courage to watch about 2/3rds of the game again. It appears that the pass blocking was adequate. Maybe more than adequate. And we were converting more than a few long third downs because we couldn’t run the ball. For much of the game, Quinn was reasonably sharp.
So this question:
If we play George again, and we’ve demonstrated that we can’t run the ball “against Georgia,” do we really need a running game? That’s a serious question.
In the game last Saturday, all the running game did was put us further behind the sticks, creating more challenging second and third downplays. If the pass blocking is adequate, why not play the 5 to 15 yard short pass game, and occasionally throw a 30 to 40 yard pass in there? If we don’t match up well against Georgia’s front seven — and we don’t — why not take what they’re giving us?
