Wow. What an analysis. So, following through. If Tom Brady had been a little more animated like, say Johnny Manziel, he might have been an effective leader. Interesting thought patternI think Ewers is a very accurate passer.
However, football is an emotional game, full of ups and downs. The only emoting I see from Ewers is him sitting on the bench pouting. Never seen his face or body language in a way that would tell team mates we got this game so follow me and let's go get it done.
Maybe he is to much like Sark. Managing the game with a slide ruler.
Football isn't rocket science and you need a leader at QB on the field that can give you the most options to win. And everybody knows that that person is Arch.
So here is what a real coach actually does when it becomes obvious.
"In 2018 At Alabama, Jalen Hurts became the starting quarterback as a true freshman and led his team to the national championship game as both a freshman and sophomore — and was rewarded for his efforts by being benched in the national championship game by true freshman Tua Tagovailoa, who engineered a second-half comeback win" .
It really ain't that effing hard. Precedent has been set!
Grow some Sark!
Dionysis, I would love to have a Horn Fans mouse pad. How can I make that possible?Happy to send you and any sponsor a new one any time. Just PM me with a mailing address.
Maybe this is something Sark is holding back for the playoffs but I expect he will ride Ewers to the very endIf Sark finally acquiesces and strategically uses Arch
Oh God. Don't bring the Simms/Applewhite feud up. Jesus. They were very different players with unique strengths and weaknesses - as players and... humans. Remember the Applewhite turnover gem against Kansas State? Some are trying to turn this into a feud and they look like just plain ol' a--holes or trolls to me. I still think the root issue here is lack of a consistently strong running game. All you guys begging for Manning to start over QE need to remember what happened when Mack Brown gave into the pressure to start a 'name' over a guy who was just winning games. He gave us CHRIS SIMMS and a division in the fanbase that lasts to this day. I think Sark is playing this one just right. Yall be patient - the 2025 season and the ascension of Arch Manning will be here soon enough.
Which of the four possible opponents do you see as particularly daunting for UGa? None of those should set them quaking as I see it. That said, I would rather play our line up (avoiding a snow bowl) letting Oregon, OSU, Tennessee do the hard work on each other. Sark, on the seeding show, had a good recommendation. Conference champions are guaranteed a spot but not necessarily a bye. No way Boise State deserves advantage to these teams mentioned. Not any of them. JMHOTexas’ draw is about as good as it gets. Wow!
If Sark finally acquiesces and strategically uses Arch, I like our chances to win it all. I also think it will be difficult for Georgia to make it to the finals, and to see us again if we get there.

Phil, that’s not what most of us are saying. We are saying that Sark needs to strategically use Arch, and for me that means 10 to 20 snaps. All you guys begging for Manning to start over QE
Kind of weird that we have had so many great kickers only to get burnt by the kicker last night. Obviously penalties and a bonehead fake punt or we are champs. Georgia is just a tough matchup for Texas. Someone has to teach the receivers to block properly and we need someone to stretch the field. Right now we have no one that puts fear in the opponents db's.2/3 guy actually, but I get your point. We need a 4/5 kicker.
Its at least worth putting Arch in some to just break things up.Phil, that’s not what most of us are saying. We are saying that Sark needs to strategically use Arch, and for me that means 10 to 20 snaps.
Consider this:
QE was 2 for 10 in the red zone yesterday, with what should’ve been an interception. That will not get it done. I hate to invoke the definition of insanity, but that seems appropriate in this case. If what we’re doing late in game after game after game isn’t working, to stick with the same strategy doesn’t make sense.
I believe Georgia easily gets thru their side. Our side will be tough as well but we are a solid team, especially if we teach the receivers to block properly and stop with the stupid off sides penalities.Texas’ draw is about as good as it gets. Wow!

Haha.... I'm not sure whether that's a problem for them. I've never seen anything particularly outstanding about him.ND. I think they match up well. And remember, Georgia may be without Beck, or with a compromised Beck.

I've watched a LOT of football during my 67 years on the planet but I'm still no expert. Just my humble opinion about why Texas lost twice to Georgia and why Texas and Ewers struggle on offense, especially from the 20 yard line in against some teams....
-- Texas has trouble run blocking good defensive lines. Georgia's defensive line kicked Texas' a-- twice this year, especially on running plays.
-- The officiating was obviously biased in favor of Georgia. I'm an older dude who has seen much of the planet and I do believe in conspiracies.
-- Texas special teams are really bad as compared to most division 1 college football teams. Both our kicker and punter are seriously sub par.
-- Ewers could be a fine "game manager" type quarterback... with a decent running game. Without a decent to good running game, he is incapable of winning a ball game with his passing ability. It would be great if he was mobile and could run but that would not be a complete substitute for an effective running game. Playing Manning wouldn't solve the problem either.
Texas will win in the playoffs until they face a team with a defensive line that out big fatties up front cannot block on running plays. It's almost that simple. Texas has been able to block most of the defensive lines it has faced this year well enough to let Ewers be an effective game manager. Combined with a very, very good defense, that has been enough to win 11 games but it probably won't be enough to win a national championship because the running game just isn't quite good enough.
Thank you. Very kind. I might do that.Welcome and great post. Consider a small donation to be a sponsor and you will get a great mousepad, no ads, other benefits and the genuine prestige of being a sponsor!

Apparently we are in the same generation so welcome to HF. Like others have said, a small donation gets you a sponsor tag, eliminates ads helps support this forum. Now on to the post. Hard to argue with all those points. In every game, on kickoffs and punts, you have to be ready on every instance for the onside/fake. Very seldom does anyone run something back and the risk (as evidenced last night on the fake punt) far outweigh selling out for the return. I cringe watching our OL blocking when I see 2-3 guys blocking 1 dude and it happens far to many times. QE is a very solid qb but he is not a championship qb. We have been so close last year and this one as well but Sark has to be somewhat flexible as that stiff neck is what finally got Mack here at Texas and at UNC.This is my first post at this site. Be gentle with me.

Yeah. Agree. I've made a small donation. I'm not poor and I'll probably give in the future but the Mrs. keeps an eye on things. ;-)Apparently we are in the same generation so welcome to HF. Hahaha..... Yeah. I'm no spendthrift but.... It's a good thing she does. I like to bbq, play golf, buy really good beer, fish.... and I might have made an occasional jaunt to the wild New Mexico territories to trade with the natives.
