I generally agree with this assessment, with a slight modification.
Ewers played a good game. The problem is that against a team — a coach and a D like Georgia — the OL has to play an almost perfect game, as does QE. That’s too much to ask. And as Gerry Hamilton of OTF said this morning, a 3rd year starting QB must be able to convert in the high red zone in crunch time. Quinn simply cannot.
I know people are probably sick of hearing me harp on using Arch more, but that seems obvious. Look at what Georgia did. They put in a quarterback who could also run and he won the game for them. His presence opened up the run game, allowing Etienne to do what he did. He would not have had those runs with Beck behind center.
Quinn lacks the late game heroic characteristics that VY and Colt possessed. Yes (!), that’s a high bar. The difference with this team is that neither VY nor Colt had a dynamic player the caliber of Arch Manning waiting in the wings.
My opinion is that Sark acquiesces and starts strategically using Arch in critical situations, we will win it all, this year. But so far and unlike one of his mentors, Saban, he’s reluctant to make such a change in critical moments.
