Rangers Magic Number

No question that the Rangers are fighting through a lot of adversity to stay around 20 games over .500 and in front of the Angels and A's, but they don't look like they are prepared for a deep playoff run right now. The starting pitching has to get back into a groove and the hitting has to come back around or something bad is going to happen. They are playing with fire right now. The Rangers lineup should be killing the pitchers they've faced over the last few days but aren't. They gotta start hitting on all cylinders soon.

Yes, I'm still trying to get over Game 6 (which is probably keeping me from putting everything in its proper perspective)...and the Rangers aren't doing much to help me get there!

This team is tired, no question. Except that Darvish isn't tired. He's just bad.

I think we make the playoffs but don't get out of the first round. This team needs rest and needs it bad.

48. Woohoo!!! Dempster with the SOLID pitching to stake the offense until they got it going. Dialed in and focused. OUTSTANDING game!!.

Exactly half-way thru the Magic Number quest which started 55 days ago.Right on pace to get there by Oct 3.

Hook'em!!!

My only complaint tonight - Kinsler switching a black bat for a white bat on a 3-2 count in the 9th. Bad Karma.

Rangers really needed Dempster to come thru tonite......a Colby-esque start. Hope it kick starts the rotation!

And C.J. spitting the bit vs. A's tonight . 114 pitches in 5 innings. WOW!. 9 hits and 5 walks. That's the C.J. I know in crunch time. If A's finish 10-2 lead in 8th R's will have a 5.5 lead over A's instead of Angels.

Hook'em!!!

Boy we needed that very solid game Dempster pitched last evening and the vicktree!

Hope Harrison pitches well this PM, the R's can win the series and keep the lead. Thankfully, this team gets a day off back at home.... I think they all are tired and need a break. Looking ahead they have a grueling 17 game stretch: @NYY (4), @Toronto (3), Balt. (3), Minn (4), TB (3) before they get another day off.

Rangers take a 9-5 lead over Bosoxs to b7th and Roy Oswalt gives up 4 runs before being pulled

. Well Roy if you can't pitch in the pen how do you expect to prove you deserve to be back in the starting rotation?

Your living on borrowed time on this team...

^^^Yep. On top of that, Harrison gets knocked around too. Rangers get a run in the 9th to take a 10-9 lead. Up to Nathan to hold on to the lead--and that doesn't give me a warm fuzzy the way he's been getting hit lately.

10-9 vicktree!!!

Whew, is right.

Nathan gets us through a real nail biter. 65-45 and the A's are leading angles 4-2 in the 5th. Let's all take a day off on Thursday and get re-energized for Detroit coming in on Friday.

Not the prettiest W ever, but nonetheless it's a W. Good to see the offense starting to come around. Josh had four good solid ABs today and was stinging the ball. Nellie is starting to heat up, and we know that when he's on a streak, he can carry the club for a few days.

Still, we need to see the starters get it sorted out and get back in form. The bullpen is getting a lot of work - too much work. Need to see quality starts going at least six, preferably seven.

Tigers will present a challenge, but at least the Rangers get them in The Ballpark. I had to give my Saturday tickets away to a friend, so I'll have to cheer in absentia. Zealots, we need to work very hard on the mojo recipe for this weekend.

52 games to go and a 7 game lead in the loss column, nt sure how but the Rangers are holding on to a very workable lead as we move closer and closer to September. Just 27-25 the rest of the way out gets them to 92 wins which I still think is the magic number.

I am concerned going into this stretch that Yu and Holland are out of synch. Oswalt cannot be counted on. We also cannot assume / count on Feldman's recent success and Harrison's mostly up (but sometimes soft) success to continue consistently. R's have some tough games with the Yanks, Tor, Balt and TB coming up. We need Yu and Holland to get back in their grooves!

Ah. There's the Feldman we've come to know. Rangers offense isn't helping much either. Tigers lead 6-2 in the 7th. With Holland on the mound against Verlander tomorrow, this isn't shaping up to be a good series for the good guys. Hopefully, Holland will revert back to form and toss a good game.

Well, the good guys got off to a great start in the rubber match. Darvish was given a 6-run lead but is doing all he can to let the Tigers back into it as Detroit scores 3 in the 5th to cut the lead in half. Now 6-3 Rangers, bottom of 5th.

A's lose, Angels are down two in the ninth and the Rangers are up 5 in the 8th. Good afternoon so far of baseball!

Yep, good afternoon indeed. LAA down 4-1, M's still batting in the 8th....Freiri is getting ripped

Our Rangers got 3 very good starts this weekend from Scooter, Dutch Oven, and Yu.

Hate to say it (re: jinx) but we have the AL west halfway wrapped up after this weekend. Last 10 games of 2012 are vs LAA, OAK....just stay steady till then & keep the pitching staff rested as best you can, Wwash

Sunday afternoon and the Rangers win and both division rivals lose. Lead is 6.5 over Oakland and 8 over the Angels. In the loss column it is 7 and 9 games respectively.

With 49 games to play you have to figure that if the Rangers can just play slightly above .500 ball 25-24, it is hard to see them not holding this lead in the absence of a monster run by Oakland or the Angels.

Very nice recovery from an inauspicious start to the series. It's hard to believe that, as average-to-below-average as this team has been since mid-May, it has maintained and, in actuality, increased its lead over its nearest pursuer. And here's a scary stat to ponder for a moment from the MLB/Rangers website: "The Rangers have scored 71 runs in 11 August games after plating a Major League-worst 81 in July."

Let's hope we don't have to go through that kind of offensive ineptness again. Even if they get the offense cranked up again, unless the starting rotation rounds back into form by season's end, this team will not go very far into the post season. Here's to hitting on all cylinders by the time October rolls around.

I feel good about taking 2 of 3 from Tiggers and with some help, the West lead is 6.5 & 8 games. We sure didn't need to lose Nap for 15 games... Josh's bat, well I won't jinx it but you know... we get a break tonight as R's wont't have to face Sabathia - we get somebody I have not heard of and did'nt catch his stats so that helps us tonight. A "W" tonight would sure would be a nice a way to start this 7 game road trip...

well i ******* hate it when we get picked off TWICE up 2-0, then promptly proceed to get buttfucked the next inning, probably putting the game away. i'd be shocked if we didn't lead the league in getting picked off.
