Rangers Magic Number

Whoever brewed up the mojo recipe for this afternoon gets an "A." Let's remember that recipe - it will be needed throughout the remainder of the season.

A win by the Rangers tomorrow would cap off a pretty successful eight-game road trip.

Mrs. HHD and I will be at The Ballpark Monday evening for the Red Sox game. I'll see if I can bring the mojo
to bear on the Beantowners.

63. Can I just say..." I love watching Yu pitch!" What a piece of work he is. I think I"ve seen every game he's pitched this year. Even the few hiccups - he is a-maze-ing!

Well, through 7 innings, the anemic offense is back. 3 hits (one of which was a Cruz 2-run shot) is all and Hamilton still can't hit his way out of a wet paper sack right now (hitting .209 since June 1).

Rangers trail 6-2 after Harrison gives up a HR to the No. 9 hitter in the line-up---a guy that is hitting .208 and hasn't hit a HR all year (and only 5 in his MLB career)--- then, to top that off, Ogando comes in a promptly gives up a single and a 2-run HR to Pujols. This one isn't going to end well.

Check me if I'm wrong, but the Rangers haven't retired the lead off hitter in any inning tonight.

And why in the hell do all our hitters go into the crapper at the same time?!?

OK Zealots - LAA is in the rearview mirror for now. It is time to get our focusness back and regroup in Arlington for a 10 game home stretch. The lowly but still dangerous team with red stockings are in town. Scotty Feldman steps in for Oswalt on the mound. The bats need to get in the rhythm they were in Sat night vs. LAA.

Go Rangers!

Hi, All - Mrs. HHD and I just got home from The Ballpark following the 9-1 win over Boston. Apparently my recipe for mojo was pretty effective. Scott Feldman was lights out tonight - and it was great to see the bats starting to produce.

I'm going to hit the rack early - I'm pooped. In addition to going to The Ballpark tonight, I spent most of the morning and early afternoon sweating over an iron - 3-iron, 5-iron, 7-iron...

Nice mojo at The Ballpark last night HHD... I told some co-workers I take back all the negative things I said pre-game yesterday about Feldman. He pitched a marvelous game last night - maybe his best of the season and the bats were red hot.

Tonight, I believe we get Perez in place of Colby. R's need hot bats to give him some run support to keep some of the pressure off early in the game.

62. We have a new entry in the Magic Number contest - Oakland, come on down!

Nice timely game for Perez. Can he duplicate?

Wash is determined to use Nathan in tie games. Sometimes it's worked; sometimes not. Seems like more "not."

I heard some post game comments from Josh after the win last night - I don't want to draw this conclusion but he just sounded like he didn't care about his batting slump... I know he is kind of laid back when speaking to the media - BUT there was no emotion, no I am working on it, Coolbaugh is helping work on some things, I know I am not helping the team right now, I want to break out of this, etc.

I think Wash needs to do something - move him in the batting order, sit him for a game or two. Whatever has been done is not working.

With 65 games left to get to the 92 win mark which should be enough to at a minimum make the playoffs as wild card and really enough to win the west the Rangers sit 34 games shy. That is 34-31 over next 65 or just 3 games over .500. Losing Lewis made that harder and unless Oswalt and Perez/Feldman/fill in the blank can round out the rotation means the Rangers must take advantage of just about every Holland, Harrison and Darvish start.

57.

Scooter's focus? DOUBLE-CHECKMARK! Offense's stroke? Still lost. 0-23 RISP for last 2 games. BUT, huge win over Pale Hose. Let's go Rangers!!

Hook'em!!!

Rangers were 1 out of 30 with RISP for the ChiSox series and had 13 LOB yesterday. Not a good way to enter the Angels series where they will be facing Wilson, Weaver, and what appears to be a now-healthy Haren. Unless the bats come around quickly, the best chance for a win will be Game 1 tonight against Santana. Need a strong start from Oswalt.

OK - Rangers win 2-0. I seriously take back all of the bad things I said about Feldman a few weeks ago. He has now gone 5-0 in his last 5 starts. After starting the season 0-6 his record is a much improved 5-6 and he is pitching well.

If we can get Harrison and Yu back on track, coupled with solid pitching from Holland and Feldman... AND perhaps Oswalt. We can get through this period - PROVIDED the bats heat up again. If the bats stay cold - we cannot solely rely on pitching to win most games.

Obviously this 4 game series with LAA is critical if we want to stay in first place and keep some distance from Angles and the surging A's.

Attaboy Scooter! excellent start, looked like he did back in '09.

Hopefully JD will sit chilly on the pitching staff (esp after Josh Johnson walked 6 in 5 innings yesterday). Rotation of the following does't look half bad, given out lineup & you know the slumps at the plate will end at some point.

Yu
Harrison
Holland
Owsalt
Feldman
=======
closer, Nathan
--------
set up, Adams, Ogando
--------
LH mid relief, Ross, Kirkman
---------------------------------
RH mid relief / SET UP, Koji, Lowe (coming off DL)
------------------------------------
Sept call ups, Perez, Grimm

I'm ready for the playoffs. This group look stout.

55. What a HUGE HUGE win. Aug 1 game can be game changer. Need to get tomorrow to complete the demoralizing of the Angels.

Hook'em!!!

Fully agree...if we beat the halo's tomorrow can you imagine the deflation! They were thinking SWEEP and a game back, now they're looking at a must win (for them) tomorrow....They lose tomorrow and the doubt is deep over there

One thing for sure, they s/h done something to shore up that Pen of theirs. It's sucked all yr, and Downs went on the DL

Not to be a thread killer but 3 bad outings in a row for Darvish. This one was not only poor pitch selection/placement, but also included a big fielding mistake. Looks like the heat (figuratively and literally) is getting to him.

Whoa! What a rally to win a walk off. Agree this vick-tree was a HUGE let-down to the Angles and HUGE boost to the Good Guys.

Need to win and get the split tonight!

Well, it wasn't pretty from a pitching standpoint (Dempster can't hold an early 4-run lead and Nathan comes on with a 7-run lead in the 9th...really?...to make it too interesting), but it was nice to see the bats come around and get the Rangers a split.
