I think I recall us once debating whether Justin Blalock played guard or tackle in high school. lol. That was that you, right?
We got to find more interesting things to debate
I was also part of this discussion. I knew Justin better in elementary and middle school. I stayed in band, he stayed in football, after that we had different groups of friends. At a large school like Plano East, that means you don't see much of each other.I think I recall us once debating whether Justin Blalock played guard or tackle in high school. lol. Two OUTSTANDING points, Chop. Completely agree on the former. On the latter, it will be interesting to see if political correctness limits available opportunities. If so, what would be acceptable endorsements? Vegan restaurants? Electric cars? Plan B One Step (can't discriminate against female athletes)?I'm not necessarily opposed to the concept of endorsement deals for college players. A few questions:
1. Will the proceeds be split with the school if the player is posing for a photo in his school jersey. In other words, if Sketchers takes a photo or video of Sam wearing Sketchers shoes in street clothes, the $ should all go to Sam. But if Gatorade takes a photo or video of Sam in his uniform drinking Gatorade, it seems that some portion of what is being promoted and capitalized on is Texas football, not just Sam as an individual. In such case, a split between Sam and UT is appropriate.
2. Can the athletes get paid for advertising beer? Cigarettes? Legal vapes? Condoms? (the USC Trojans have a built in market there) Rifles or shotguns? Junk food? Political ads?
These, especially #1, are excellent questions. Football players didn't stitch the jersey themselves, design the logo, pick a longhorn as the mascot, invent the Hook 'Em sign, decide on the color orange, and so on. They're one piece of the puzzle. How much goes to which parties?I'm not necessarily opposed to the concept of endorsement deals for college players. A few questions:

Interesting points on the latter. If a women's basketball player advertises the "morning after" pill, I think we all know she will be met with resistance at some institutions. For instance, what if a star Baylor, Notre Dame, or BYU woman athlete advertised the "morning after" pill...?Two OUTSTANDING points, Chop. Completely agree on the former. ou's next Heisman transfer-in QB?
That is precisely why there are not endorsements now because of the institutions associated with the individual Scholastic athletes. Two OUTSTANDING points, Chop. Completely agree on the former. That’s when all the local car dealerships, insurance agencies, hotels, and alumni owned businesses all of the sudden start doing tv ads with football players who are grossly overcompensated for their appearance in the ads. We’ll be seeing an awful lot of college athletes in tv ads, billboards, etc ...What kind of resentment will be brewing the locker rooms? How will Saban handle things when Tua signs a big endorsement deal knowing the RT who protects Tua's blind side won't be getting one? Or what will Coach K do when only 1 or 2 of his 5-star recruits get big endorsement deals?
So a college athlete, especially a high-profile player who is likely to attract more endorsements, will now need an agent or some kind of professional representation to negotiate deals and optimize these opportunities (if they’re being smart about it). Can they do that? I don’t see how you can deny them professional services in the pursuit of maximizing their earning potential.
I can’t remember what Ricky did, but I believe Cedric wasn’t on Scholarship because he did get paid for Baseball. The good news was he didn’t take up a scholarship spot.I wonder if they'll make the players with endorsements put that money aside in order to be eligible for the season. I'm ignorant of the facts....did Ricky and Cedric have to put their minor league baseball $ in limbo until after they left college? Same with that Colorado kick returner who also skied?
What was the last good idea to come out of Cali-prune-ya?
