Random Season News

Seems reasonable to me that while they are scholarship athletes, they should still be able to profit from their likeness.

This is only fair. And the School can still make a cut too. For every Dak Prescott Jersey sold, the Cowboys and Dak both make a cut.

Right now I am sure that the Co-Op sells #11 Jerseys like hot cakes, and every one in the transaction knows why that #11 is significant.
The Co-Op makes their cut, The university makes theirs. The only person not seeing anything is #11.

Football players experience the equivalent of a car crash on a daily basis.
:rolleyes1:
And, again, we're not talking about "paying" anyone.
We're discussing allowing those with marketability to prifit from that.
If a cheerleader, or Bevo handler can do that then more power to them.
The longhorn mascot was conceived by an alumnus.
The color orange was selected by students.
The hook 'em horn hand sign was invented by a cheerleader.

How much money has the athletic department made selling orange things, or selling things with a longhorn logo on them? Without merchandise sales, our athletic department would probably be in the red.
Shouldn't that money go to the spirit organizations, since they're doing the marketing?

On one hand, I feel like a student-athlete's identity is their own, with which to do whatever they want. But on the other hand, profiting off their status as an athlete means they're no longer an amateur. If the football players are making money, so should everyone involved.

The color orange, the longhorn mascot, The Eyes of Texas, hook 'em horns, nearly everything that makes college football fun and enjoyable is due to non-athletes. Without them, football games would have attendance comparable to tennis matches (which don't have a band, cheerleaders, Bevo, and so on).

Although we have had 2 weaker opponents to this point the Horns are still averaging 43.6 points per game after 3 weeks and allowing an average of 24

The LSU game may be the only one we score less than 40. Makes that TD drop and poor 1st half play even more significant

Polls are just polls but the Horns are getting some respect in this young season. Only 1-loss team in the top 15 and ahead of several undefeateds.

Not sure it works that way Joe Fan. You generally need an outtie and an innie for that to work.

But hey, if the aggie can make a maroon carrot, UT has got this.

I think about this game often.. one of the most incredible.
And that "call" by the announcers....unparalleled.
"Those other boys packed it in.....but we didn't..."
...we stayed to immortalize forever our teams, fans, and own hearts being ripped from our collective bodies.
