This is not exactly true. While Texas only has 1 sport over the minimum number of sports counted in the Director’s Cup, Stanford has like 10-12 excess sports. Thus, if Stanford women track replaces a lower ranked team that is currently included in the point total, it’s possible for Stanford to have a lower result than Texas in women track but still gain more points overall. Possibly all of this is considered and Texas can replace a low score as well.

3 runner-ups as well (women swimming, softball, and men’s tennis).

How is Stanford ranked academically compared to us?

we are ranked at the top in our present conference but in a month will be third behind Vanderbilt and Florida. The Ags and Georgia are on our heels and Auburn is spitting distance behind.
We will still be second in Texas unless the Ags close on us.
That is just in academics though, so no big deal

who would want to go to Rice anyway?

Florida passed us a few years ago on USNWR rankings. One of the ways is that Texas pursues BIG dollars. Florida pursues all dollars. I suggest you try the system and donate equal amounts of money to the two schools and see the responses you get. It's been that way for forty years.

Georgia also passed us, but their standing seems to be volatile or "fluid". Try getting your child into Florida or Georgia if you live in Texas. Easier to get into Stanford or Wharton.

As for Rice, virtually everyone graduating from Rice is headed to graduate school somewhere else. The old joke is that Rice has pneumatic tubes from South Main directly to Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Law School.
