Protecting our 2nd Amendment Rights

There was some nice footage of him at a Trump rally!
i know you're joking but that is exactly how the red flag laws will eventually be used. Your political affiliation will start to be a proxy for "extremism" and depending on the entity in charge of things, will likely lead to additional scrutiny. And let's face it, with the climate we are in, it is going to be the GOP and particularly Trump supporters that get singled out for "extra review".

When you read of all the stringent gun laws in Lake County and that the police had already been to his house twice including one where they took 16 knives! You realize more gun laws aren't the answer.
He passed background checks and the waiting period to legally buy guns.
His social media rants and pics were advertising what was to come.
I bet he was on meds while still in school. We seem to have created a group of angry violent white males 20_30 who were "losers " in school and who got caught up in that violent social media world. The backgrounds of the mass shooters going back to Columbine are remarkably similar.

Good news! It was all a false flag operation.

Yup. His parents sound terrible picking him up last and fighting with each other, he was an outcast in school, and he wanted to be a rapper, which always means lyrics that are kind and loving :rolleyes1: . If we could check his Netflix watching history and Xbox gaming history, I bet it'd be lots of overly violent films and games. Gosh, I wonder why he turned to violence?

Maybe they need to re-calibrate. He had significant issues. April 2019 he attempted suicide. September 2019 a family member called because he wanted to kill everyone. He had no firearms ownership ID to revoke at those times. Then he got one three months later and his father supported it. Nuts. I think he's got some culpability here. Your kid attempts suicide, threatens to kill his family and THEN you sponsor his gun ownership? Dad of suspect in Highland Park Fourth of July massacre OK’d his seeking gun permit, state police say

Mr D
Yes and if you go back and read the histories of previous young male mass shooters there is history of parental or caretaker Knowing there were issues and ignoring them.
Didn't the mother of the Conn. school shooter buy the killer a gun?
No easy answer. What parent etc wants to think their child is a potential murderer?
Is keeping guns away the answer? Probably not.
Is involuntary commitment to psych hospital the answer? Probably not

Is keeping guns away the answer?
There is significant middle ground between these things:

*Buying your young murderer a gun
*Co-signing your 19 year old murderer's FOID after the conference championship games but before bowl season started after he attempted suicide and threatened to kill people in the house during the non conference schedule;
*Keeping guns away.

That's the equivalent of buying your kid meth, driving your kid to a place that you know meth is sold and making sure he's got money after he started wearing Sooner gear; and drug testing your kid who you think might be on meth.

I'd support charges against the sponsor of the shooter's FOID application, his father.

Did someone buy him a gun? Your comments imply he was already a murderer when these things occurred. That is simply untrue.

The quote below is from the Mayor of Highland Park (article linked by Bubba). Per Madam Mayor, we should ignore the actions of the perpetrator and instead focus on the "real" issue (the ability to legally obtain firearms). Make no mistake, the left's ultimate agenda is to outlaw gun ownership and to confiscate all privately owned firearms.

Rotering said the nation should focus on preventing mass shootings from reoccurring and not on a young man who “clearly had a mental breakdown.”

“There are weapons of war on the streets,” Rotering said. “People can legally obtain these and take out dozens of people. Our community will never recover from this wound.”

Highland Park has had an ordinance banning semi-automatic rifles, including AR-15s and AK-47s, since 2013.

I’ve never seen a serious person advocate for anything even close to this. That’s just fear mongering. A well regulated militia is something we do not have.

Bubba.
Seriously? You are saying you have never seen a "serious person " call for gun ban or confiscation? A 5 second search showed over 30 names, some were major paper ops.
Too many to list sites here. A few names:
Eric Swallwell who wants 17 billion taxpayer $ to buy back
Anderson Cooper Andrew Cuomo, many state reps in Ny And Nj
Eugene Robinson Kurt Echinwald
NyTimes(several times) WaPo(several times). LATimes,Huffpo CNN Rolling Stone Esquire
Papers in Detroit Maine Boston Baltimore etc.etc
These people and media have called for ban or confiscation. Obama even floated the idea
Of course there are many more calling for ban on "assault weapons "
And of course the clown. BobFrank
You can either do a search yourself
Or just look up Eric Swallwell's plan and tell us. Is Swallwell a "serious person
If you don't even want to look up Swallwell let me know

A. I stand corrected. It appears that the overton window has moved a little. Cool.
B. It's not going to happen but at least it's being discussed.
C. I'm good with that plan. Maybe we can migrate to a poorly regulated militia. That would be an improvement.

That's what we were told when people opposed gay marriage on the idea of the slippery slope.

Skeptics: Do this and pretty soon we will have to accept transvestite and pedophilia as "normal".

Leftists: No way! Nobody is advocating for anything close to this. That's just fear mongering.

Bubba
Are you saying you would want a gun ban and confiscation?l
I don't think you really would
I think regular people should be able to have regular weapons. Shotguns, pistols, hunting rifles, etc. I'm not a confiscation guy. Buy back maybe.

I have a good friend who has any range of guns. He has AR-15's to kill critters and to go prarie dog hunting and hog hunting. The damage that this ammunition does compared to a 9mm is significantly different. He was selected to be on the security team at his church and he told them he wouldn't wear a gun because of the danger to the public. He carries a Byrna (and has one for all of his family). It's a tear gas gun.

My thing is I can buy a gun from you and you have no duty to perform due diligence to validate that I'm deemed safe to own a firearm. Criminalize unlawful gun ownership. Hell, replace all of the people in jail for weed crimes with gun crime people. I think we should establish some solid red flag laws. I think we should put some age requirements on guns past basic hunting guns.

I know a ton of people with guns. I honestly only know one guy that worries me.

transvestite is out of vogue in the language now. Transexual. Come on, clean it up!

If you are someone who should not have a gun but someine wants to sell you a gun do You really think a law will stop him?
So far I do not know of any private sale of a weapon that resulted in a mass shooting . BTW the private sale you mention is not to be confused with the sales of guns among gang members or people looking to buy a gun covertly.
Those buyers and sellers will not be following any laws .
Look at the number of laws in place with the Highland Park shooting.
More laws are not the answer.

Comparing the 5.56/.223 cartridge to 9mm is apples to oranges. Damage from a round fired from a rifle is much greater than a round fired from a handgun due to the extreme difference in velocity. Ironically, damage from most all common center fire hunting cartridges (ownership of which you claim to support) is much greater than from a 5.56/.223 round. Not trying to be offensive, but your comments reveal an overall ignorance of firearms and are likely influenced by media demonization of the AR-15 platform.
Your friend is certainly entitled to his opinion, but let's just say I'm glad he's not on the security team at my church.
In case you are unaware, unlawful gun ownership is already a crime.

The idiot I'm talking about who's not killed anyone yet was angry with the whole world because his wife was screwing his daughter's high school friends. She was a teacher and it was the cops fault, the administrator's fault, the judge, the DA, etc. He was unhinged for some time. He's improved to slightly hinged. My mom was convinced he was going to shoot up the courthouse. I've known him for 45 years. He is not real smart.

The gun show loophole would lower the turnover of guns.

Increase the penalty. Increase the penalty for straw purchasing as well.
