Our next OC and DC

Not to get too political, but the burning river captured the public's imagination and gave political energy to environmental protections and results include the EPA. Rivers all over the country tend to be a lot less polluted these days! Thanks Ohio!

I think this Randy Newman song is about that event

A little info on Mike Yurcich: current OC for The Ohio State Buckeyes. Yurcich was the offensive coordinator for Oklahoma State University from 2013 until December of 2018. He was previously the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Saint Francis, Edinboro, and Shippensburg. Yurcich also spent some time at Indiana University as a graduate assistant.

Under Yurcich, Shippensburg had led Division II in offense (529.2 yards per game) and ranked second in scoring (46.9 PPG) in 2012, a year after shattering team records for scoring and yards. During Yurcich’s time at Oklahoma State, he was in charge of Mason Rudolph and helped guide him to what was essentially a rewriting of the entire offensive record book.
Rudolph broke at least 50 school records during his college career. In 2017, Rudolph had a sensational campaign that helped him win the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Yurcich’s work with Zulli at Shippensburg in 2012 was pivotal that season, as Zulli passed for 4,747 yards and 54 touchdowns and won the Harlon Hill Trophy as the top Division II football player. Zulli set Division II records by accounting for 336 points and tallying 56 total touchdowns (two rushing). The 54 touchdown passes also tied the Division II record for most in a season.

In 2018, Oklahoma State finished No. 10 nationally in the Football Outsiders S&P+ ratings, for offensive efficiency. The Cowboys’ previous ranks under Yurcich in that stat:

2018: No. 10...2017: No. 3...2016: No. 8...2015: No. 19...2014: No. 78...
2013: No. 36

Other than a one-year outlier, the Cowboys continued on an upward trajectory and established themselves as one of the best offenses in the country. The 2017 group ranked first in passing offense, second in total offense and fourth in scoring. Heading into bowl season, Oklahoma State was in the top 15 nationally in each of those categories once more.

The official statement from Ohio State noted that Yurcich agreed to a two-year contract worth $950,000 per year.

2019 Ohio St. Total Offense/Game
Plays ...... Yards .......Ave Yds/Play
75.4..........531.5..............7.1

Some of the prominent players Yurcich has helped develop include J.W. Walsh, Mason Rudolph, Taylor Cornelius and Justin Fields.

He's not the OC, think he's the passing game coordinator/qb coach. He doesn't call plays either so not sure how he fits Herman's criteria for an OC.

Yurcich is pronounced Church

I can hear it now:

Texan: "How do you pronounce your name?"
Mike Yurcich: "Your-sick"
Texan: "Naw, Naw. I feel fine, thanks for askin' though."
Mike Yurcich: "No, my name is pronounced, Your-sick."
Texan: "Oh. Ok then, you won't mind if I call you Billy Bob."

***PS: I'm a native Texan and my relatives back in east Texas would most likely say this.

tOSU is unhappy over Yurcich
Hopefully this is a good sign

I saw an interesting retweet on another site. Day hired Yurcich because he felt he was the best out there and he loved how he handled the development of Mason Rudolph.

screw them...........like tOSU hasnt or wouldnt do the same thing.

Seems like we should consider trying to schedule them every year. They have an unusual dislike for Texas in general and speaking for myself I can't stand those arrogant pricks. That natural dislike might bud into something a little more special.

I like the Yurcich hire. Seems like it should be a good hire.

Not a fan of the Ash hire. I am not sure he is even better than Orlando.

We'll see on both and hopefully it turns out well!

I find it hard to take any opinion serious from a fan base that has 90% of them dressed in jerseys and jean shorts. Jorts and Jerseys - a buckeye way of life...

He was a good enough DC that he was given a head coaching job. He was also good enough to win a championship. Lots of us have said, we'd take Charlie Strong back as a DC, well Chris Ash is Charlie Strong 2.0. Lets not forget he cut his teeth as a DB coach before becoming a DC.

I am extremely happy to have him.

I would NOT take Charlie Strong back as anything. Dude has made his millions and does not care anymore (see South Florida). I do not want Charlie Strong 2.0. This does not make me feel better about Ash at all!

I thought you were talking about the U of Florida fan base for a moment there.

When I say Strong 2.0, I mean he is a coach that is a great DC but is not head coach material. I thought for sure everyone would understand what I meant but calling him Strong 2.0 How about David McWilliams 2.0, or Gene Chizik 2.0.

A failed head coach who is in his element as a coordinator.
