Good news on Sam

I would be fine with a slow burn all game. 3 yards and a cloud of dust to keep our QBs from carrying the load. It will also keep the pokes' offense off the field. The only way the pokes win is if we get into a shootout.

They are #42 in rush defense (143y/g)
91st in pass defense (252y/g)
65th overall

We are #43 in overall defense

So basically the perfect matchup for Buechele while Ehlinger gets healthy?

I forgot scoring
Their defense is #78 giving up 28.4 per game
We are #45 at 23 ppg

Inside the Big 12, however OSU has been much worse
OSU is next to last (#9 of 10) giving up 37 ppg
We are tied at #2 at 23 ppg (somehow Tech leads)

In their last 4, all conference games, the OSU D has given up 41, 28, 48 and 31, including KU

In the past this sounds like one of our historical trap games!
Not that Herman's perfect (Maryland), BUT, could Texas be bucking a trend under prior administrations and play well enough to win trap games? As long as "we're not good enough to bring anything less than our A game to think we can beat anyone in the Big 12", the Longhorns players and coaches seem to have the right attitude....in future years (I hope), when we have 4 & 5 stars coming out the wazoo, THEN we might get overconfident.....

Our team makes me very nervous. Of the five games left, all five are winnable. However, four of them could also be losses. I want to see us start blowing out some of these teams that have been struggling. Namely the upcoming one.

Just now got to watch TH's presser. TH says Sam is taking about 25% of the snaps with the # ones. And that TH will evaluate Wednesday after the trainers' give him an update. So, he may allow Sam to increase his passing on Wed or Thur depending on the trainer's assessment.

This seems to me, and I'm not an orthopedic Doc, that if Sam can't throw more than 25% of the passes he normally throws until the Wed or Thur before the game on Saturday, then Sam is not fully healed. Shouldn't Fully healed mean he's able to throw and run, etc the Monday before the game. And have a full week of testing and using the injured shoulder prior to subjecting it to the rigors of full game contact?

Any Ortho's out there that can offer a professional opinion about the timing Tom stated about Sam's practice participation.

I was thinking more along the lines of SMU when he was at Houston.
After beating a top ranked OU team.
Moondog, do you know if you win the lottery you have to pay taxes?
Glass half full, Eeyore first the rain now this.
Yeah we’re Houston, we beat Oklahoma, but we lost to...

BOLD prediction. You are not here next year when we are preseason top 5.

I am sure that rising and Thompson are mentally and emotionally ready to play
I thought the same of Gilbert in the Natty v. Bama
Thought the same of Major.
Thought the same of Colt.

I now do not think the same of Cam Rising. In my opinion he is the future.

MD,

You turned it into a scary thought. Herman indeed lost to an SMU team, but in Herman's defense, his QB played injured.

I totally agree, but in Herman's system or someone else's? He clearly has the best arm, the greatest accuracy, and is the only one that can actually read a defense and look off the safeties.

I would love to get a big lead Saturday and see Rising play. I'm hoping Sam sits this one out.

How can you say Rising is that good. Is it just from reports? I hope it's true but I was thinking Roschon maybe the future. But who knows Card may have those intangibles would make him dominant
Man this is so good. I think i feel an "o" coming on.

OB had a report from an "unnamed source" that Sam threw 30 passes and fully participated in practice yesterday. If he doesn't get sore today, I'd say he's looking like the starter against Okie Lite.

I've been coming to this site since it came into existence and will be here when it disappears unless I disappear first. ;)
But, yes, I have become a "prove it on the field" fan over the last few years.

I was around for the "Shock the Nation" tour of 1990.
Everybody was so excited to play Miami in the Cotton Bowl and felt sure we could beat them.
I told anyone that would listen that we had not come close to playing a team like that and sure enough, we got mud-holed.
I have that same feeling now.
Talking heads are beginning to put us in the playoff picture. Really?
We just became bowl eligible.
Yes, we beat our biggest rival in a game we almost gave away.
We have clawed our way to wins over the likes of Tulsa, Baylor and KSU.
TCU and USC, good wins at the time, have turned out to be less than mediocre teams.

I'm with Herman.
Let's go 1-0 this week.
My excitement will grow with each win from here on out.
But by no means do I feel confident that we will win out.
I think we can. I even think we should.
But I will take it one game at a time.

I think it's fair to say that we should not take any game/team for granted. That, in and of itself, is not Eeyore-esque.

But, then, if I get asked to predict a score, I'm going to tell you what I truly think. Against Kansas, I assume I predict a score with a double digit score difference.

So...

Got it. Thanks for the reply, I understand a little more why you are hesitant.

It’s hard to dispute this observation. I would fall back on two considerations that would have me feeling that we could “compete” if we played a juggernaut.

First, I like Herman’s track record in games in which his team is not expected to even be competitive. He amazed while at Houston and frankly, last year, one could put the USC and OU games in that category. So as a big underdog with expectations low, again, I like what his teams have done.

Second, he seems to have his teams physically ready, again particularly in big games. I would expect for that trend to continue. If we are the more physical team, our chances elevate.
