For Real ....Herman “IS” Done!!!

Steve Sarkisian has won the Broyles Award, which is given to the nation’s top assistant coach

Why didnt Auburn pursue this guy?
Based on the rock solid source of internet rumors :rolleyes1:, I understood that Auburn insisted that their new coach keep the current DC and a few well-liked assistant coaches. That probably turned off a lot of candidates.

So....
Sounds like it’s now leaning towards a new coach who is not named Urban Meyer.
(I could be late to this party...; fashionably late.)

Let it be said that there was always a decent chance that we are waiting till end of bowl game to axe Herman and until after CFP to get UM. I think the chances are going up with each passing day.

But why wait?
UM apparently wants to poach coaches from CFP teams. UM is saying the problem isn’t talent but coaching. He don’t need this years recruits. He definitely wants ewers for next year. Ewers committing to aOSU means he can transfer his commitment to UT if his coach/recruiter does the same. Technically not a full decommitment. I think Ewers knows the game.

just to show what cruddy coaching can do to a good team: in 1961 the Horns' only loss was to a TCU team that was 2-4-1 at the time. TCU got clubbed by Rice. We went on to beat Ole Miss in a bowl game but no national championship.. It was bad coaching. We should have fired Darrell Royal that year. Especially considering that embarrassing loss in the Cotton Bowl to Syracuse just two years earlier.

So we should fire Mensa now. Or yesterday.

I understand there will be a wrestling match between Urban and Brian Kelly in memorial stadium this Saturday at noon. Winner gets to be our coach. Or maybe it is the loser.

You should be strung upside down and have your tongue cut out and bled solely to death (chinese communist torture) for suggesting DKR and Herman are remotely comparable.

I mentioned two; there were others. Like the three year run of 6-4 teams.

Followed by a 31 game winning spree.

Never liked TH and regretted the hire, but I think he has some ability and judging by results in the covid year and three losses by a dozen points, I am not uncomfortable with waiting for another year. And I am getting real old, so every year matters to me.

SOS info -- Kelly arrived there in 2010

Have we gone completely off the deep end? I'd just as soon keep Tom around, or better yet have Yurcich take over for a year, than hire Brian Kelly. Plus, why would Kelly leave ND? As much of a Texas Longhorn as I am, I'd tell you that the football reputation of ND even outranks ours on the national stage over the years, and now.

Kingsbury never lived a damn closet, but there’s a reason Mayfield left and it wasn’t playing time, at least not playing time on the football field.
Errrrrrr...

So what I think yer sayin' is that Kingsbury called for Mayfield to run a naked reverse, but Mayfield audibled at the line, and was on the outs with Kingsbury ever after...?

But perhaps I misinterpret.

On edit: I have no idea if any such purported incident ever occurred, or if I'm even correctly reading between the lines of a somewhat cryptic message.

Brian Kelly is the one that sent the kid up the tower in the thunderstorm. No one else, just Brian Kelly.
We all form opinions about people. It’s just human nature.

Something about Kelly has just never worked for me. It’s a sense. With Herman, I should have recognized what is obvious now, the character flaws. But like most of us, I was so enamored with his record of beating better teams at Houston — and so ready to move on from the Strong era — that I ignored the warning signs.

Can Texas find a good guy, a character guy, that can bring us back to prominence? That’s the question, and the challenge. If it’s not going to be Meyer then I really hope CDC and the others put a premium on character. And to be clear, I’m not talking about Mr. Nice Guy, perhaps like David McWilliams. There are more than a few “character” guys who can also be real hard a**** when they need to be.

There are a few good guys out there that can really coach. We need to find one.

I enjoyed the game, especially watching some of the youngsters excel.

I doubt it changes much with Herman though...

Tom effin Herman !!! Lol what a great game ! :bevo:
Herman is a good bowl coach, I mentioned that in my write up of the pre-season prediction, and how I was not factoring last year’s good bowl win into this season’s win prediction.

Average regular season coach, good bowl game coach. Strange combination.

Wait, Ewers is a '22 commit so he hasn't signed anything so he doesn't need to follow a coach/recruiter.

Just don’t know how you fire a coach with winning seasons each of four years, four bowl victories, a pretty good roster of returning players, etc.... Texas did well surviving covid issues. I wonder if the wealth at Texas will make them stronger in 2021 on the football field. Poorer schools have probably taken a hit financially and mentally and emotionally from everything invoking the pandemic. It’ll be interesting next year. I don’t like how TH handled the off field issues this year. However, the team last night looked focused and United and happy (winning does that). If it’s true that the writing is on the wall and it’s Urban Meyer, I’ll appreciate TH for getting Texas back to more w’s than l’s plus the bowl victories.
