For Real ....Herman “IS” Done!!!

I see it differently. Meyer is a proven winner, one of only three currently on the Mount Rushmore of the college game. In the NFL, unless he succeeds wildly — which is unlikely— he will quickly fade into the background.

If it’s about ego — and I believe that it is, the college game is where Meyer will want to be.
I agree but was being a smarty pants.

Meyer to NFL would give him a chance to accomplish something that other CFB HC failed at. Pete Carroll has done it but not Saban.

In CFB he will be compared to the other HC's w MNC. He is way behind Saban, a couple legends like Bryant, Hayes, Leahy, McKay and Saban is in the hunt for more.

Chances are Dabo will catch Meyer before Meyer adds to his list. Dabo is young.

The right fit in the NFL may be the route to a Meyer legacy.

In Tsarist Russia the Jewish villages posted a guy at the gate to wait on and greet the Messiah if He showed up. Or to warn if the Cossacks showed up instead.

discussions of UM showing up in Austin seem similar to me

The guy waiting at the gate was usually the village idiot. Just saying.

More than a few Village Idiots seem to be posting here, including yours truly... But I do get your point.

Let me just add that if indeed Meyer is hired by Texas, you may have some serious ‘splaining to do.

:idk:

Let's see...

Potentially bigger salary and perks
No recruiting trail
Dealing with (slightly) more mature players
No on campus scandals involving players or coaches
Greater insulation from fan base (arguably)
No AD and board of regents to answer to
No donors
No hornfans

We're DOOMED!!!!
No answering for players actions or answering to the NCAA! :D

I'm right there with you, and considering the source of the village idiot comment, well, there you go.

But ...
in 11 years at Notre Dame, Brian Kelly has just 4 wins vs. Top 10 teams. (in 13 games) Of those 4 Top 10 wins, one was against a #10 Michigan State team that finished the year unranked (7-6). Another was his overtime win this year, vs. Clemson w/o Trevor Lawrence. His record vs the top 25 is 21-24
FWIW, Herman has 6 Top-10 wins in his time at UH and Texas.

One of the paysites thinks Brian Kelly is the leader in the clubhouse

After Urb, any name is likely not going to move the needle as much ... but I think Brian Kelly would be a solid choice just because he values the trenches. Aren't most champ caliber teams built from the inside out ?

His teams have been to the playoff twice now too.

He would solidify the locker room and get the focus back to football which we desperately need ...

Thamel article about college coaches looking at the NFL

"Urban Meyer’s name shot through the NFL stratosphere on Sunday after an ESPN report indicated at least two NFL franchises made initial contact about him being their next head coach.

Meyer becoming an NFL coach could become a reality over the next 10 days or so, as sources confirmed to Yahoo Sports that there has been outreach by multiple franchises to gauge Meyer’s interest.

The news broke on a day when Jacksonville solidified itself as perhaps the NFL’s most intriguing destination, as the 1-14 Jaguars are slated to get Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence with the top pick in the NFL draft and are expected to part ways with coach Doug Marrone. The general manager job is already open.

Will Meyer go to the NFL? Here’s the safest answer: Meyer certainly isn’t headed back to college, as college coaching is amid a sea change that could lead to an influx of coaches in college football exploring the NFL.

There are clear signs of Meyer’s interest in the NFL, as sources say he has been intrigued enough that he has researched the league through former players and friends, inquired about potential staff and is learning how the front-office infrastructure works....."

As college football coaching changes, Urban Meyer isn't only one who could jump to NFL

I’m not sure that Brian Kelly, a guy from Mass who has never coached south of the Mason Dixon line is going to be able to come in and build the “so-called” necessary bond with the TX HS coaches. But perhaps I’m thinking too deep.

that is a fair point ... Matt Rhule did it by hiring TX high school coaches on his staff and let them navigate the recruiting waters

I still find it odd that the hugely compensated Texas head coach with his immense power and influence essentially has to grovel to high school coaches for recruits. I guess HS coaches have no aspirations of working in the college ranks.

At least not for Tom Herman
But, the now know he's a dolt. The comment about Kelly is that he would have to come in and prove himself to the glorious Texas HS coaches, not the other way around.

That is what I'm saying. Kind of like a new CEO at a company. Does he opt she come in and grovel to be accepted by the underlings so they will do a good job?

I wrote this somewhere about recruiting at Norte Dame, cant rmbr if it was this thread or not. Back in the day, I even used to argue against this. But the truth is that ND really does have have tougher admittance standards for football players than any other P5 level program outside Rice or Stanford. For example, they have a calculus requirement - not only must they have taken it in high school but they must also pass a calculus test. How many of our players and/or recruits not named Hayden Conner do you think could pass that test? He did recruit well there despite this, so that is something.

There is, of course, more to the story -- namely that ND has the advantage of a unique and huge historical national recruiting base. How all of this would translate to Kelley being able to recruit this state against SEC bagmen (who currently own Texas) and tOSU and everyone else is something I dont know the answer to. I do feel certain Kelly would not have the same recruiting pull as Meyer. But hardly anyone would.

I do think its pretty clear that he is a better coach than Herman (or Strong for that matter). But can he recruit here?

Brian Kelly is an *******, devoid of personality. He would be the turd in the punch bowl and insure that I never live to see another National Championship for Texas football.

SOS info -- Kelly arrived there in 2010

Gerry Hamilton says Urban tried to get the Cowboys job last year.
As far as Jacksonville goes (who is currently on tract to land Trevor Lawrence), the wife would love him to take a job in Florida

ps -- did you guys know Jacksonville is the largest city in the FLA? I would have guessed Miami or Tampa or maybe even Orlando before I guessed Jville.

I think everyone has seen him go out of his way to embarrass people on national tv. Our current players seem way to sensitive for this type of treatment

ps -- it is axiomatic that agents love us

He also killed a student assistant. Look it up.
