For Real ....Herman “IS” Done!!!

He is a Texan: A+
He would not put up with BS!!

This could be interesting!
He would bring some Aggies along as fans. :bounce2: or NOT

Probably a very good recruiter.

Remember when Kubiak left the Broncos due to 'health issues'? We're just setting ourselves up to get that excuse used twice in a month. Kubiak is just a bad aggie joke.

If we’re going to the NFL I want John Harbaugh.

Could probably get his brother cheaper!

As I posted before, maybe Texas and Michigan could trade coaches, so they could both develop losing streaks to new rivals.

Michigan might even want He-Man - at least he beat OU once, while Harbaugh is the ofer at UM against Ohio State.

Going off memory here, but we were #2 going in, riding a long win streak (17g) and Miami had a loss that season. I dont think the media would put 11-1 over 12-0, do you? Maybe today its somewhat different but back then undefeated was a big deal

Miami had lost the opener to Florida, then won the rest, so they had an 11 game win streak after the Orange Bowl. They were ranked #5 going into New Year's Day, and the 3 teams between them and #1 Nebraska all lost (not sure who the other two were - must have been SEC and Big 10 or Pac 10 teams).

I think the thought was that Texas would have won the NC, as stated due to being undefeated, but might have been close either way. That game was the start of the state of Florida run at NC's - have won 11 since then between Florida, FSU, and Miami.

I met Coach Akers once at Scholz's beer garden (early '90s???) when he was part of the pregame radio show. Our D at the time was really aweful. During a commercial break I went up to him and asked why his D was always so good. His smile went away and a serious look came across his face. He looked me dead in the eye and said, Because I always had 7 or 8 guys that really wanted to hurt the ball carrier!
That’s just the kind of mentality we need back on D. That and the nearly unblockable two interior DTs Akers’ teams often featured.

It's an every 4 year event for us
Here are the names IT just threw out there

Mullen
Kubiak (IT thinks he could land Ewers or Manning)
Campbell
Dykes
Sark (supposedly sober for 4 years now)
Mario
Franklin

But more importantly, what kinda list is this if Mangino ain’t on it???

I have been thinking about this lately, how far would I be willing to stoop just to start winning and become relevant again?
I think here is that line
Briles is probably one of the few who could come in here and perform right away
But the freak out would be absolutely staggering
I just cant see CDC, at al., being willing to put their names on it and swallow that reaction
Ha!

Note—I oppose a Briles hire, but since we’re being hypothetical and slightly silly here...

The ultimate freak out would be if Art Briles was not only named head UT football coach but also AD of both men’s AND WOMENS athletics.

There would be a walk out of the female half of the student body.

Plonksy would walk in day one dressed like a Ninja with some rohypnol and a milah knife.

Mullen is a name getting tossed around with some frequency but I think he is already getting $6M per. So seems unlikely
We going to double that to get him? For Mullen?

Mullen has yet to win anything. Granted it isn't easy to win in Starkville. but it isn't easy to get caught cheating there either. Jackie set them up a system to cheat and not get punished.

Florida is a different story, but call me when he goes undefeated and beats Alabama, Georgia, and someone else of significance. I have been a member of the Florida Foundation longer than I have the Longhorn Foundation (because it existed before the LHF and was gifted to me after I made a donation to Shands), and I opposed his hiring in Gainesville, so I shall be less than thrilled if he turns up in Austin, particularly for more than $4 million.

A potential coach competitor

Before the K-State game, when Mangino's name came up, I said I didn't want to see our coach collapse on the sideline from heart attack or stroke. After the trauma of seeing Derrick go down Saturday, I sure don't want the trauma of our coach dying right before our eyes.

An article from Football Scoop
Nothing you dont already know if youve been reading along

This is the part of the column where the author typically sums up the situation into one grand solution, but there isn’t one here. There is no daylight in between the rock and hard place the Texas football program finds itself, only more rocks.

And with Meyer now off the board, the eyes of Texas are now locked squarely on AD Chris Del Conte.

The secrets of our mortality are elusive. For all we know, Mangino might outlive most of the coaches on that list.

Matt Campbell's name comes up a lot. Clearly a very good coach but does he have the "political skills" to navigate the shark infested waters of UT? Does anyone have insight on Campbell?
