For Real ....Herman “IS” Done!!!

Phil,

I was the last person in the locker room after the A&M game. It was just Ron Franklin, Fred, and me. Ron left, and Fred & I walked out together. He has NEVER said anything negative about Texas or the ****** way he was treated when he was fired. Diane, Danny, & Leslie are not so kind, nor should they be.

Deloss and I had a "one on one" visit about the classless way it was handled, and that WE do NOT do thing like that The University of Texas. Deloss agreed and let me know it wasn't him.
Love your anecdotes!

There is a rumor that Art Briles wants the Tech job
He will do it for just $1M/y
He wants total control over football.
He wants plenty of money for assistants
He's told them they can negotiate a contract for him after 2 years when everyone sees where everything is at with the program.

Here is a quote from the Texas Monthly article posted by Chop above

He soon discovered that his zeal for athletic department affairs waned as soon as the games had been played. He would never be happy sitting behind a desk. As athletic director, he tried to steer the head coaching job to his friend and chief lieutenant, Mike Campbell. He lost that contest of will to regent Allan Shivers, who brought a past Royal assistant, Fred Akers, back from the head job at Wyoming. The feud between Royal and Akers was real but exaggerated. Royal rigorously stayed out of Akers’ way, and he couldn’t see that Fred had much of a ***** coming; he only inherited the potential for a Heisman trophy winner, an undefeated regular season, and a national championship if they could have won the third Notre Dame Cotton Bowl. Akers thought in turn that Royal had lobbied too vigorously against his candidacy. And when Akers represented the football program at the post cocktail parties, he found the guest lists were still drawn from Royal’s friend and loyalists.

After Royal resigned in 1980 as athletic director, he and Akers aired their differences over huevos rancheros at one of Darrel’s favorite haunts, Cisco’s Bakery. Afterward, could blithely go his way, but it hasn’t been that simple for his successor. At the beginning of this season, Akers had a better record than Royal did at the same point, but every day he feels the pressure to continue winning. He’s competing against a legend who isn’t ever going to lose another game. Akers stiffens at the mention of his former boss. “Yeah, Darrell’s a lot more relaxed now,” he says, as he clears his throat, not the least relaxed himself.”

Cisco's was one of my early morning spots too. Shared some very hard laughs in there - I mean like cannot breathe laughing

Try to follow along. I'll say it again. I didn't offer an opinion on whether Texas is one of the top jobs or not. See? That's what people do on message boards. We ask questions like that.

Besides DKR and Mack, what historical records are you referring to?
Come on HIC! We have 1 title in the last 50 years! Look at the huge powerhouse elites that share that distinction! Colorado, Georgia Tech, BYU, Pittsburgh! We are right up there with the very best! Just ignore the historical facts that Bama has 8, OU 4, USC 4, Miami 4, LSU 3, Notre Dame 3 over that same period. Don't you know that- "We're Texas" You know- the school with the igloo on the side of I-35!

Let's take this deal for the horns!
Brile's would make an excellent coach and recruiter. You know he's going to play it straight he has to.
If Meyer is not going to take the job then brile's come on down.

I have been thinking about this lately, how far would I be willing to stoop just to start winning and become relevant again?
I think here is that line
Briles is probably one of the few who could come in here and perform right away
But the freak out would be absolutely staggering
I just cant see CDC, at al., being willing to put their names on it and swallow that reaction

Probably true but:
I knowwww he would turn things around. Lou Holtz believes in him. Just sayin.
We would be in the playoffs in 3 years.

Supposedly we met with him in Minn last week

Nahlin says
Gary Kubiak, OC Minnesota Vikings: Your first thought is likely that this is a terrible idea. It was my thought for the first 30 seconds. However, I love his personality for the college game, I love his offense for the college game as well as the personnel on hand (Bijan in that wide zone running game, Card on bootlegs), and I have a lot of confidence he’d make great hires for defensive coordinator and offensive line. From a ’who to hire‘ to recruit standpoint, that would be an issue. Would he come in like Herm Edwards and hire a rainmaker like Antonio Pierce?

Kubiak is David Pierce’s brother-in-law and comes highly recommended. He would recruit the quarterback position extremely well — he’d land one of Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning. Peyton Manning would advocate for him. There’s a lot of subtle value with Kubiak.

Bottom line: The instant improvement in overall coaching, people skills, and ability to game plan would be through the roof. We haven’t heard much on this front since the middle of last week.

Mullen isn't leaving Florida. Why would he? Google says he's making 6.
1 million. Coming to the festering morass that is Austin makes no sense.

Kubiak huh. Since I dont watch the NFL, I dont follow him at MN. We'll see what happens. Just no Herman please. He cannot coach this team in 2021.

He is OC for Vikings who are 4th in the NFL in yards/game
Second in the league in YPP at 6.3
Kind of surprising
