Death toll in Texas elementary school; 18 children, 2 adults killed

As mentioned before, the identification of "likely shooters" is a very difficult task, and although this would be a great benefit it is near impossible to attain. Just saw a study that indicated as much as 60% of men who commit suicide never displayed other mental health markers or indications of MH issues. Even when their lives were viewed with hindsight. I put the mass shooters in that same sort of "rage/depression" bucket where their thought process goes from "I'm fine" to "hurt someone/something/myself" in the matter of days if not hours. Hanging our hat on Mental Health remedies won't be enough. And even if there are outward identifiers, neither the subject nor their families/friends generally like pointing it out...especially to authorities. Sometimes they don't want to throw their friend under the bus, but more often, they don't want their friend to learn that it was them that threw them under the bus. Identifying someone you think could have MHealth issues is likely to offend (if not more) the person you identified.

I think young men with no female interaction is a serious issue.

As there's no way to force people into mental health services, they only work on adults who are willing to use it. That means we have to make other changes to prepare for the actions of folks who don't utilized MH services.

I can live with this...Factbox: What's in and what's out of the Senate's gun-safety plan | Reuters

IN: STATE CRISIS INTERVENTION SUPPORT
OUT: ASSAULT-WEAPONS BAN
IN: ENHANCED REVIEW PROCESS FOR BUYERS UNDER 21
OUT: HIGHER AGE REQUIREMENT TO BUY SEMIAUTOMATIC RIFLES
IN: PENALTIES FOR "STRAW PURCHASES"
OUT: FEDERAL BACKGROUND CHECK EXPANSION
IN: MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES, TELEHEALTH INVESTMENTS
OUT: REPEAL OF LIABILITY SHIELD
IN: CLARIFICATION ON DEFINITION OF LICENSED DEALER
IN: PROTECTIONS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS
IN: SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH AND SUPPORT SERVICES FUNDING
IN: SCHOOL SAFETY RESOURCE FUNDING

The other big thing I wish was "IN" is mandatory sentencing requirements for criminals in possession of a firearm, so we don't get situations like the recent murder of two LEO's in LA under the Gascon regime.

Agree. So sad we need more security in schools but there is no reasonable way to identify potential mass murderers without those closest to them stepping up.
That is not likely to happen for many reasons.
Also sadly media coverage of these horrific events inpires others to create their own.
This is the world we now have.

Yup. Of course kids should be able to go to school in peace. They can't so school buildings needs more security. Similar, folks should be able to travel via plane in peace. Terrorists have shown that isn't always possible so there's a lot more security in airports.

Mr. Mireles would be justified to hate the department that escorted him out of the building.

And what? Last time authorities said they waited for key from the principal or a custodian.

"they would have found the door to the classroom where he was holed up was unlocked if they had bothered to check it."

This is something we all agree on.

Turns out the dick head mayor screaming at Beto was more of a "the lady protests too much methinks" moment.

Maybe so, but Beta proved what a classless jackass he is doing that simply for the optics of him being a "strong" leader.

The one pretending to be a "strong leader" was the one shouting him down from the stage. He's also the one claiming that the people who are telling us something new everyday about how poor the response was that almost assuredly led to MULTIPLE slow deaths are doing that for some political reason. Seeing his public performance as mayor coincides with how Ulvade has dealt with the crisis from minute 0.

BobFrank was pandering to his base, as NOTHING he ranted about would have changed what occurred that day. He was creating a campaign finance ad because he has NOTHING of substance upon which to campaign.

What we saw was ALSO the problem with the incessant rush to put stories into the media without proper investigations having been able to be conducted. I suspect this is part of why the ISD police chief is no longer cooperating with investigators and, quite possibly, will later be found to have died of self-inflicted lead poisoning (sort of like when the Warden deprived the inmates at Shawshank of his presence).

We still see it with the whining by the media of an 'outside law firm' drafting the letter to the AG on open records requests. Never mind that MANY jurisdictions around the State send such matters to retained firms and use the exact same boilerplate in the initial letter to the OAG that HAS to be sent in a very short window of time, to be followed by a more specific brief on the matter.

I think campaigning on "I'm the opposite of Greg Abbott" platform may be effective. However, in a state that released their GOP platform on Juneteenth and either not recognizing the irony of that or being so assholey that they embraced it it may not work. He could heal the blind, teach lepers how to stop OU's offense, and throw all Sooners out of the state and the still wouldn't elect him.

As Sangre pointed out Juneteeth is a purely Republican driven event.Seems very apropo.
Didn't realize the Demx found a way to criticize.

What's the problem there? It was Lincoln and the Republican party that freed all the slaves from southern Democrat plantation owners.

Oh no. This is where we'll hear that the parties somehow switched platforms in the 60s. Lincoln would have been a democrat today dont cha know.

They were both showing their politics but one (Beto) had an premeditated plan to try and upstage the governor and create a commercial moment. The other was reacting with anger in an extemporaneous fashion and let his politics influence his fervor.

Because the big bad racist republicans did that just to pour salt in the wounds of the down trodden african americans in this state.

To libs, the content doesn't really matter. It's just their perceptions of racists doing racist things.

Well now he's just gaslighting us all. But that's the GOP way. These are not the droids you're looking for...
