Cotton Bowl: Horns-Buckeyes Game Thread

Oh good, we quickly went from #1 to #11 in the retarded way too early rankings from morons.

In postgame comments, Sark said since the 1st down power play didn't get any movement they thought they could get the edge for a TD if it was well blocked. It wasn't.

Also, if Cam can slow down Sawyer's rush for a couple of seconds on the 4th down play, QE3 would have had a much better chance to find someone in the end zone.

My final thought is this. The final score in no way reflects what kind of game this was. Most people thought we'd get blown out of the stadium. Hell, Herbie and Fowler sure as hell did. We played them toe to toe. A penalty here, a good bounce there, no brain lapses by the coaches and we win. Things just didn't go enough our way. I don't like OSU but they are a damn good football team. I don't think ND can hang with them.
I think ND can win it. Eventually critical play calling blunders was going to catch up to us. Which is why we seldom blow anyone out like we should.

I think ND can beat them. Eventually critical play calling blunders was going to doom us. Which is why we rarely blow teams out like we should. We could have run on them with quick hitting running plays, not these delayed runs. ND will run the ball on these guys.

One last criticism of Pk. On the fourth and two the defense was first unprepared for osu to go for it which was obvious they would and Texas had to call a timeout. Out of the timeout the defense looked confused as to what defensive set they were running and the result a sizable gain by Howard which would have been a td if he hadn’t tripped.

I looked over to my wife and asked why Blackwell was out there, and then he promptly hit the wrong gap. I'm not sure what Coach K was thinking there.

Youngsters don't get this!!! You have to strike " when you get that chance" .... its been 25 years!

This was a HUGE opportunity! LOST!

I was at the USC - Texas Rose Bowl

I was also at the Rose Bowl when Colt got injured. That team was sooooo good! But....nope

Sark F'd up on the biggest stage EVER... and I LOVE Sark!

IMO, Buckeyes won, but by having two TDs given to them.

Proud of my Horns, though. Like Bum said, we banged on the door last two years & next year we’ll kick the sob in.
Nothing like quoting a man that NEVER won a championship at ANY level - not HS (see 1956 against Garland on his home field), college (UTEP in football? his stents as an assistant in college from aTm through SMU, K-State; oSu), Chargers, Oilers, Saints.

FWIW, that "door" is still closed and on the hinges.

Who lost it? The team is 100% a championship team, outside of one person. Arch would have won by 10+. Sark isn;t Charlie or Tom, but he's ******* dumb, too.

Just remember this was the Best defense EVER! Argue me! (2005... I get it...)

But these DBs were AWESOME!

Did anybody ask about Muhammad ?

Because he Locked down everyone tonight!!!!

Back at hotel after game and just read through game thread.

My thoughts-
I’m very surprised at the posters who are so down on QE. I thought he kept us alive until the strip sack. But the criticism of tipped balls is 100% fair.

Do we never move the pocket? He is mobile enough to run 5 steps laterally and make throws.

Down the stretch of season our OL was bad. That was supposed to be a strength but they couldn’t run block or pass protect. I think this is where we lost the game. Flood better develop a strong line for next year.

Lots of criticism of QE stepping into sacks. But you want your QB to climb the pocket, not backpedaling. I felt Howard had plenty of time and was throwing from pockets that were the size of my hotel lobby. Never saw that kind of protection for Quinn.

I think I’ll get nauseated for the rest of my life thinking about the goal line failure. If you have packages for short yardage for Arch, he should have been in on 2nd and 3rd down.

Once Golden got hurt we didn’t have enough bullets in the holster. Crazy that Texas doesn’t just have another stud receiver ready to step in.

The offensive play calling of Sark or Milwee or whoever called plays didn’t cut it. We need a change there next year.

Ok I probably have more but I’m exhausted.

Hook em!

Arch would have won by 10+?

Love the kid. Archie and I have known each other for decades. Peyton’s wife and my daughter graduated together (ask him about the shade tree he, my son, and I shared at the ceremony). The one thing I didn’t know is that Arch is obviously carrying three great OL in his hip pocket.
