Coronavirus

Last week, there had been Only One reported case of Covid-19 in Denton County. Today the Dallas Morning News reported 24 cases. Still a lot of people who want to be tested, displaying symptoms but unable to get a test. I'll be maintaining social distancing for a while.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you, and do you have any underlying health conditions?

So, once you get tested and are positive, what next? What the hell is it telling you to do that any logical person who is sick wouldn't already do? You know, rest, stay home, chicken noodle soup, etc., etc. Or is it just to add to the stats?

Mchammer told us how a sick person in his office pretty much shut down a team that could go back to work if the person obtained a negative report. A positive test, you self quarantine and try to help track all of your contacts.

Good luck with that. I fly planes for a living. I pretty much suspect, having been in multiple airports last week, I was exposed. Who am I gong to warn? The people I fly with should already suspect they have it as well. So, when symptoms begin to manifest, do what you can to mitigate it and heal up.

I was born during the Eisenhower administration. My health is pretty good except allergies and hayfever that cause me to cough and sneeze more than average. Mostly I'm cautious because I don't want to be a vector to family, friends and colleagues.

Another message board I'm on, someone made a point about this. If I get tested, test positive but don't die, that should help the survival rate stats and maybe speed up the reversal of all the idiotic closings, etc.

Yeah: Mostly only the seriously ill and health care providers getting timely test results... thus early reports showing more deaths than recoveries. Normal will come after we have lots more testing and treatment capacity.

New restrictions being imposed in Germany, and they're pretty significant. Link. No meetings of more than two people (excluding family and household members). Police will stop people. Not sure if they'll hand down fines, arrest people, etc.

Yeah, arrest them and throw them in jail. How will that work?

HIC,

I was under the impression that you only flew domestic, but I'd like your impression of DFW. I have a friend based in SFO, but she spends a lot of time in DC, and frequently flies internationally, particularly to Southeast Asia. She told me she had a flight from (I think) Bangkok. She said no masks, no fever checks, and it was the easiest return she had ever had from overseas. She said it was like TSA and custom.s didn't care

We go to Mexico, Canada, Dominican Republic. I rarely get to DFW. We are not very big there.

All I can say is I saw a lot of people last week in MCO, MSP, RSW, and other places who look like a cold would kill them. A flight of stairs for sure. But they were flying.

evidently the selections of testing are racist ... or socio-economic. My younger brother got a test ... no problem. now it took 48 hours vice 24 to get the result, but the test was taken and shipped same day of request.

That and a vaccine to neutralize Covid-19 for sick patients. Not an inoculant but a way to neutralize it.

Testing is so limited in ok that they’re reserving it for hospital respiratory admits, highly suspected people, or health care workers.

Was your brother showing symptoms?
He had recovered from pneumonia after one of his own trips (yes, he too is an airline pilot).

This past week, our representation gained a letter of agreement with management that COVID19 absence wouldn't dock a pilot's sick bank.

His doc recommended the test ... he took it ... meanwhile he had to go on the sick list ... which will be "refunded" because of the LOA.

He's much better now ... but it's a thing. As HIC said ... pretty much all of us have been exposed ... it just blows my mind we keep "exposing" others in our treks across the country in a short time.

The virus can remain "active?" for up to 3 hours AIRBORNE ... Unless we're talking DFW-AUS ... that amount of time in the tube is MORE than enough to expose everyone in the airplane. The virus is smaller than the HEPA filters can screen.

Therefore, I have been operating with the recirculation fans OFF ... and the cabin temperature COLDER ... so that all air is direct from the engine bleeds OUTSIDE.

I"ve been in search of a way to increase the opening of the pressurization outflow valve and retain normal pressurization, but the electronic system doesn't make that evident. The old pnumatic controller on the 727 would allow for it ... of course, the 727 "leaked" like a sieve, so a LOT of air was being exchanged. The newer 737s, et al ... pretty tight ... which means LESS air exchanged.

Yeah, it burns more fuel ... but fuel is cheap right now. Getting sick is not.

that's not true.

My local clinic has the kits and has been administering 'em on lots of folks.

Now the issue is the capacity to RUN the test ... but the samples are being taken and sent to the labs.

All this airplane technical jargon. I fly an Airbus, I know none of this lol.
